I went with my son,Daniel, and my daughter, Monica, for my 56 birthday to the Keys. I am fromcuba, of course, but I have been in the USA for the past long 40 years.
My kids are as much cuban as I am, and know a lot from that little Island in the Caribe. My daughter wrote a poem back at school and when we were in the Keys, she wrote it again and left it at the San Carlos, it is name "The islalnd I never knew ", read it when you go there, it is breath taking.
My experience was fantastic. Nostalgic and painful, and makes my heart pound very heavly, but glad to see that there are people that still care for the Cuba that we remember, like the movie of Andy Garcia...."Lost City".......

Once you're inside the Institute, the tourists seem very far away.
You find yourself immersed in Cuban culture and interesting exhibits. This is a relatively small space, so you can have a good experience in a short amount of time.

The building was built by the Cuban community before the Cuba embargo, lots of Cubans in Key West, a great theatre inside and worth a look since it is free, on your Duval Stroll.

Great small venue-to see a concert. Not a bad seat in the house. Serves adult beverages and popcorn as well. Mat Kearney played for almost two hours and it felt very personal

The San Carlos Institute is an incredible venue - concerts and Cuban history. I had just come from a week tour of Cuba and was thrilled to gain some additional knowledge on the self-guided tour.

Just a nice place to visit, alot of history packed into this free museum, lovely theatre as well.. Focuses mora on cubas independence from spain in the late 1800's and jose marti.. Sem stufffrom the castro led revolution, but mostly limited to the cuban exiles commitment to escaping the island by anymeans necessary

I felt the presence of Jose Marti as this is the place where he united the Cuban exiles in 1892 for the War of Independence. A temple of freedom and hope for the future of a free Cuba.

Beautiful historic building detailing the history of the ties between the US and Cuba. A must stop right on Duval street for any family.

Beautiful place packed with history! Well worth going in and I learned so much more than I thought I knew. A/C is cold and even better if it's raining out! Very interesting!
