An excellent sailing experience for landlubbers

Today, the crew of the Appledore II took us out for almost 2 hours into the waters around Key West. Although it was peaceful without a marine engine (or French frigates), it was apparent that a lot was still going on. Unfurling sails, then later furling them, trimming the rudder, coiling ropes, tacking to the wind, All the while the ship's captain was letting us know about the whys and wherefores of what was being done. Like, condensing "Master and Commander" into a Reader's Digest mini novel. What a treat this was. Ok. So maybe I exaggerated a bit. Recommended!

Fantastic service, excellent sailing, amazing sunset!

We had a great sunset and champagne cruise onboard the Appledore Star! Captain Russell and mates Mareson and Bradley were exceptionally gracious with all guests. I for one appreciated that we actually sailed... no phony "sails half up, engines on" cruise for this crew! Highly recommend this reputable company, which has been pleasing sailors and non-sailors alike for decades.

Fun sunset tour

We chose Appledore because because it’s schooner. After a minor snafu with a fill in receptionist who sent us to the wrong ship, we found Appledore ll. Once aboard, we found out the crew lives on board and travel to Maine each year. They care about this ship and it shows. The captain and both crew members were attentive, informative, kept our drinks coming and made the sail fun. Of course, it didn’t hurt that it was the most spectacular sunset of our trip! Seriously, even the captain pulled out his camera for some shots. I highly recommend Schooner Appledore for your next cruise.

Wonderful sailing, ocean kayaking on Appledore Star

When we were in Key West, we wanted to spend some time sailing, but didn't want the average sunset cruise. We signed up for an eco cruise on the Appledore Star, five hours of sailing, ocean kayaking, and snorkeling. Jack, our captain, and Sydney and Eric, our crew were wonderful, sharing their experience with us. We sailed first to Mule Key, where Eric led us in ocean kayaks in and out of the mangroves, explaining the ecosystem to us.When we returned to the boat, we sailed to a spot for snorkling. Although some members of the group (there were 12 of us) did snorkel, the waters were very choppy so my husband gave up after a few minutes and I didn't even try. Snorkeling was followed by lunch, a spread which included Key West pink shrimp, fried chicken, assorted sandwiches, cookies, and assorted alcoholic and non-alcholic drinks. We then sailed back to the harbor. It was a wonderful way to spend the day!

Best time on the island!

Just do it.
It was fantastic.
The crew, the captain, the ship was beautiful with history.
You must watch the sun. As it set. It disappears in seconds. Never seen that before. Best several hours you will spend in the keys.
Best part of this it was beautiful, romantic, and NOT screaming music with a bunch of drunk people. Met a lot of great people. Bring a jacket. Cool breezes after dark! Iui

Capt. Russ, Bradley and Mario where wonderful, professional and amazing on this relaxing and exquisite sunset cruise. The schooner is just an incredible mix of sailing with an "old world" feel. Luckily, mother nature was with us for this amazing cruise. We will surely go again. Thank you Capt. Russ, Bradley and Mario for making our valentine adventure amazing.

Amazing Sunset Sailing Tour

Not a party boat but but did serve drinks and hor-d’ evours. Being somewhat familiar with sailing, the nostalgic vessel is beautifully preserved. The sailing experience was peaceful and relaxing compared to party boat catamarans. The crew; Captain Sean, B-Rad, and Marrison (Mario) were skilled and extremely accommodating. The most beautiful sunset I’ve ever experienced and that includes Hawaii. Do yourself a favor and enjoy a beautiful sunset experience.

The highlight of our 3 days road trip to the Florida Keys

We did the Sunset cruise out of Key West a few days ago and it will remain the highlight of our trip to the Keys for a long time. It only lasts a couple of hours but it is magical, the crew and the service are excellent, no frill, relaxed, fun yet very professional and full of interesting facts to listen to. I wish Appledore every success in the future, we’ll done and thank you!

Beautiful Sunset Cruise on a Schooner!

We had a lovely evening on the sunset cruise with Captain Matthew, Jordan, and Angela. The views were incredible, we learned so much about these beautiful schooners, and even helped hoist some sails. And, they were very understanding and accommodating when we asked to change our date because of expected high winds on our original date. All in all, it was a very special and relaxing experience.

The water was absolutely calm, warm summer wind on our faces, drinks (wine in hand) and we chased the sunset. The crew Colleen, Phoebe and Captain Gus were awesome 😎 Exceptional service, personable, funny and knowledgeable with willingness to share. Booking online is available however we called. The crew are ensuring staff and guest safety during these uncertain times but still making the experience enjoyable. Once out of the Chanel we were sailing 💕⛵️ We saw seals, loons, ducks, Egrits and Cormorants. Truly an amazing experience. Too short I could could sail all day around Penobscot Bay! It was breathtaking to see the Maines majestic coastline from the water. Being a Mainer I can’t believe it’s only taken 30 years to do this! We will surely be back to sail on your beautiful vessel. ***ladies dresses fly up, perhaps bring a light coat. Thank you 😊
