Was looking for an inexpensive day trip with friends over spring break and came across Lazy Dog Adventures online. I love kayaking, so we rented kayaks for what I thought was only going to be a couple hours but were told we had up to practically 6 hrs to kayak which is awesome for the price. There’s also really cool mangrove tunnels you can explore, and the staff at Lazy Dog are so friendly and helpful so they’ll draw you a map and tell you where to go. I would definitely recommend using them if you’re looking into excursions in the keys.

Took the kayak tour and had the best time! The pace was perfect and the route we took through the mangroves was beautiful and full of sea life! Our guide was awesome. We had a party of 7, and every person would HIGHLY recommend this. What a relaxing way to spend a morning outdoors. There is a restaurant right next door, so we made an entire half day of it and ate lunch after right there.

When I saw that Lazy Dog was running a special for the 1/2 day private backcountry charter I jumped on it. My husband and I went out on friday June 26th with Lindsey as our captain. We loved her! The weather was fantastic and the ocean was so beautiful. She took us out to an area called the Mud Keys. It was so pretty out there. We hung out on a sandbar and just relaxed in the water. We opted for kayaks rather then paddleboards and we had a great time kayaking around the mangroves. We saw several stingrays and also kayaked to a small beach. Lindsey was great and even dropped us off near our hotel at the end of the trip. She was great. Definitely a great trip!

Hello! My husband and I are lucky enough to live in Key West. This week we have our son, DIL and grands visiting us. As we always do, we turned to Lazy Dog for fun family entertainment. Today, we decided to do an actual tour, rather than going out on our own, because I felt a tour would be more fun and educational for our grand kids. Wow! Bethany did not disappoint. She gently extracted several creatures from the water, educated all of us about them and let each of us hold them. She took us through mangrove tunnels and explained how important they are. And, perhaps it was just a stroke of luck, but I’m always going to believe she arranged it just for us, we got to spend several minutes with four manatees swimming all around us! It was spectacular!
If you are planning a visit to Key West, make Lazy Dog part of your adventure. You will be so glad you did!

Our guide John was extremely knowledgeable about the ecosystem. It was very windy but John chose a route that kept us out of the wind as much as possible. I would highly recommend lazy dog for a kayak trip and I would definitely use them in the future.

My teenage daughter and I participated in the Paddle Fit class. It was a cool morning so we were a little chilly to start but quickly warmed up once things got started. I would suggest wearing leggings or a light shirt over a bathing suit to start and taking layers off as you go. You will get a little wet when you lie on the board. The workout was fun and I was “good sore” the next day! My only recommendation is to attach the leash to a branch for the stationary work so you don’t drift with the wind or current. Can’t wait to duplicate the workout on my board at home!

It was a really wonderful tour. The guide was friendly, patient and every knowledgeable. The pace was good for beginners and easy to keep up. I would like to suggest a split in the guided tours - on for advanced paddlers and beginners/first timers. Maybe go a little further on the tour with those that are more experienced? Other than that - absolutely perfect!!!

Not only was this adventure much more than expected, our guide Bethany was fantastic. She was so knowledgeable, charismatic, and offered tons of local recommendations for the rest of our trip. She went out of her way to ensure we got to hold and see jelly fish, crabs, lobsters, sharks, sponges, and much more. Much more relaxing and less vigorous than past kayaking we’ve done.

As the other reviews say - this is a very professional outfit with super staff who are passionate about the area and wildlife.
We weren’t expecting to have 3 manatees very close to the dock, it was amazing to watch them before we set off.
Jon was a great guide, good sense of humour and very knowledgeable.

Lazy Dog is the best! Very personable and friendly. Peyton was our kayaking guide. She is very informative, relaxed, and genuinely likes getting to know you. Plus, they will pick you up for the hotel and drop you off afterwards! We will definitely do this again.

Are there weight restrictions for the kayaks?

They did not make any weight restrictions. I weighed 250ds. I had a great time. I have since looked into kayaking here at home and new York ,and the places have in fact had weight restrictions. Was a great time in Florida though and felt good and safe

How long is the snorkeling part of the 4 hr tour and is there something to do while others are snorkeling like a beach to hang out on?

Some parts of the tour is deep water. Also ur going to area where are jet skis and boats driving by would do a life jacket to be safe.

We have two inexperienced kayakers although we do own a SUP. We will be staying at the DoubleTree Grand Key 1/15-1/19. We are probably looking at Saturday as a kayak day.. Not sure what time of day is best. I am quite sure that a tandem kayak is not right for us. What is the price for a tour with two kayaks?

Hi Bruce! I'm not certain what the business is next to Hogfish (one of my favorite lunch spots) but we're located on the other side of Stock Island from there. we go through the mangroves between Key West and Stock Island and there's a pretty good restaurant at our marina too :)
