Wherever I travel, I'm always sure to stop in to the local library. You can find out what's happening, take a break, read a paper. And sometimes find a great souvenir.

Key West has a beautiful old historical library that dates back over a century. It's painted conch pink. A wonderful tiled mural on the lobby greets you. When I visited, a great exhibit of colorful paintings by local artist Brenda Mckissick was on display.

There's a lovely shaded garden on the property, filled with tropical plants---a perfect spot for a rest from the day's activities.

The library hosts monthly free films, has classes and does book sales. You never know who you'll see at the local library, or so Stephen King once said!

One of the first things we do during our annual trek to Key West is re-activate our public library card. The library is a great resource for new political and mystery books, use of a computer (available free to use for library cardholders), and to catch up on news, etc. The library is a quiet, laid-back, air conditioned place to get some work or writing done.Adjacent to the library is a wonderful palm garden which is open during daylight hours. It is wonderful for reading in the shade or simply enjoying the tropical vegetation. The library is a great source of pleasure only a few blocks away from the honkey-tonk of Duval Street.

The signage outside talks to the fact that this was the first library in The State and it dates back to 1892. Excellent!
