- GWDCODenver, Colorado27 contributionsInformative tourAn interesting visit giving good insight into Truman as a person, as well as President. The building, originally on a naval base, is modest for a Presidential residence, but filled with interesting items. Our tour guide was well informed about Truman's years as President and how he used the Little White House, and he was an excellent communicator. The tour was a little pricy, but we thought it was worth it. Note, there is no parking nearby.Visited November 2022Written December 19, 2022
- Livgal8Seattle, Washington16 contributionsInterestingThis wasn’t a must do for me but actually really enjoyed the visit. We had a very good male tour guide (whose name I’ve forgotten), I learnt quite a bit about Truman that I didn’t know. Well worth a visit.Visited January 2023Written January 13, 2023
- DerbyDoug18 contributionsHarry Is My Kind of Guy!When our wonderful tour guide, Mary, pointed out that President Harry S Truman enjoyed his nightly bourbon, I had to ask the brand, being a Kentucky native. She said he went cheap with Old Grand-Dad Kentucky Strait Bourbon Whiskey. My wife and I learned so much about one of the best presidents in U.S. history! Thanks, Mary!Visited January 2023Written February 9, 2023
- Rosanna M11 contributionsWorthwhile, brief excursion to a nice piece of historyThe only way to access the Little White House is by guided tour. It is fairly brief, with a little but not much history and storytelling; more just a chance to look around and ask questions. A fair amount of important U.S. policy was settled here so it's nice to be given that context.Visited February 2023Written February 11, 2023
- Mandy BBirch Run, Michigan12 contributionsGreat place to visit. A must.A group of 11 visited on our last day in Key West. It was a last minute decision and so worth it. All 11 of us are from Michigan and we enjoyed having a tour guide from Flint, Michigan. He was very informative. Make sure you add in enough time to explore the "museum" in the gift shop. Also, package it with tickets to the Shipwreck museum and/or Aquarium and you get a discount. We added this place on while at the Shipwreck museum in Mallory Square.Visited February 2023Written February 21, 2023
- Jane SValparaiso, Indiana115 contributionsThe buck stops here!Truman fans will thoroughly enjoy this tour of Harry Truman's Little White House. The docent provided historical facts and tidbits about this president to accompany the glimpse into his private world. Truman's presidential limousine was on display outside the house this time, and we saw it later cruising down Duval Street! Impressive! The gift shop offers many items for Truman aficionados, and I purchased one of Margaret Truman's novels as one of my souvenirs.Visited February 2023Written February 25, 2023
- Charles MVirginia91 contributionsDedicated caretakers of history bring the Truman Little White House to lifeA must visit when in Key West, to experience history in the very capable hands of the staff. Rick, our guide, had a wealth of knowledge and was able to read his audience and tailor his talk. The ops boss, Tom, patiently handled my questions about process and ensured we had an amazing experience. Isabella was a gracious and informative gatekeeper. Highly recommend returning for multiple visits as there are many details one might miss on a single visit. Would also suggest calling ahead to ensure there are no early closures due to special events (which are critical elements of the larger support base of such a well respected charity). A great experience for the entire family.Visited February 2023Written March 2, 2023
- Charles NApollo Beach, Florida113 contributionsHighlight of our TourThis well done small museum was well presented by our guide, leaving us wishing it was a little longer than the 30 minutes of the tour. Yet, despite that shortcoming, we left a good idea of how the President spent his days at the Little White House and something of the man. Spotlessly clean grounds.Visited February 2023Written March 4, 2023
- Carrie H155 contributionsShort but enjoyableThe knowledgeable guide brought things to life from the time of Truman and later. My knee is painful and he brought out a folding chair for the presentation and for me to use while the tour went up the steep stairs. I appreciate that flexibility.Visited March 2023Written March 8, 2023
- Nancy S27 contributionsPresidential History close at handIn the past we had done the free visit here- you can see a couple rooms and displays as well as the outside of the buildings and the presidential limo without buying tickets. This year we bought the tour tickets and we were glad we did. The tour was great and our guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. Harry Truman spent a lot of time in KW and he accomplished a lot of important work from here.Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 14, 2023

Our visit to The Little White House was interesting, full of stories about Truman, and a visit to the island home from another era. Randi, our guide, was quite knowledgeable but spoke so rapidly that words were lost as she totally blurred syllables. Group size exceeded 30 people—-probably too large for this house under typical circumstances...and definitely did not allow for social distancing. Masks were required, but I saw no sanitizer to use after we all touched the hand railings on very steep stairs. Because of the large group, our guide told about the upstairs while we were still downstairs, and then sent the entire group up the stairs. Very interesting house for those interested in presidential history, but sorely lacking in COVID protocol. PS It’s cheaper if you purchase tickets online, but still a pricey tour at $18.33 pp.

The visit with a tour costs about $16 and it is $2 cheaper if you buy hour ticket on line. The tour lasts about 40 minutes and is informative regarding the historical events that took place in this house. If you enjoy history this is a very interesting site.

We didn't tour whole site, but we saw the free exhibits and enjoyed the history of those. We had teenagers with us who wouldn't enjoy whole tour, so the free portion was just enough for us. It's a lovely place to visit and at least say you've been. The people working were very nice as well.

My husband and I truly enjoyed visiting Harry Truman’s Little White House in Key West. The house and the grounds are charming and well kept up. The tour was very interesting. The guide was very knowledgeable and shared many interesting personal stories about the Trumans. There was also a short film that we enjoyed watching. The small entrance fee that we paid to take the 40 minute tour was well worth it.

The Truman Little White House was likely the highlight of our visit to Key West. The house is beautifully maintained, decorated with exact replica upholstery and wall coverings, and filled with many of the original furnishings in use during Truman’s tenure. Our guide/docent, George, was remarkable—both in terms of his wit and delivery as well as his vast knowledge of the history of the house and of Truman himself. For the most part, the house is navigable by individuals with mobility issues, though there is one narrow staircase to negotiate (both up and down.) Photography is not permitted inside the house. The interior is air conditioned and visitors are provided with a complimentary bottle of water.

Via tour guide, you’re taken through the house that president Harry S. Truman stayed at during his presidency. Other presidents have also stayed here but Truman visited the most of all presidents. You walk through the living room, game room, dining and bedroom areas with tid bits of history told about each room. Good stories go with each room. If you’re into history and politics you’ll like it. I thought the cost was a bit high tho for the half hour tour.

Because of my interest in history, I visited the Truman White House while the rest of my family visited the Hemingway House. Mine was a poor choice. Physically, the house and its furnishings are not particularly interesting - with the exception of the poker table of course.. Perhaps it was the specific tour guide, but the history did not come across in any vibrant fashion. The focus was more on the folksy low-key atmosphere (I did learn that Bess liked bridge as much as Harry loved poker) than any significant events or discussions.

A visit to the Little White House offers insight into the life and times of President Truman including the challenges of his presidency and his private life. History buffs will particularly enjoy this attraction. The tour was about 1 hour and the guide was very well informed.

We happened upon it while we were out riding our scooter, it was hot and we were hoping for some A/C. It was really expensive A/C $22 a person to listen to a tour guide drone on. I am a history buff, but this place was something I could have done without seeing. It would have been better without the guide and just read about what happened in each room. There are alot of better things to see in Key West, you can probably avoid this one.

A message to our Truman Little White House community:
First and foremost, thank you for all the messages and well wishes sent our way during last week's storm. We wanted to be sure to notify you that our Tour Guides and Museum Staff in Key West are safe. While the Truman Little White House was spared by Hurricane Irma, we are using this time to assess any repairs and evaluate the status of our historic gardens.
As Truman himself once said, “America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” We would like to thank the many courageous members and volunteers who have dedicated their mornings to clearing the area of debris and downed trees.
We hope to be open for tours by the end of the week and appreciate your steadfast support. We look forward to an amazing season ahead and pray that you and your families were minimally impacted by the storm.
