Cool place. Having water shoes is highly recommended for the beach. Lots of shells and rocks to walk through to get in. The fort itself is worth seeing as well. Great place to swim and snorkel though, and there is a little snack shop and facilities right there.

On our 5th time to Key West a young bartender recommended we visit Fort Zachary for sunset. We had always gone to Mallory Square and never gave a thought to another location. This was a nice change from the crowds and hub-bub. Peaceful, quiet and tranquil! While we still love Mallory Square sunsets, you should plan to do a sunset... More

Enjoyed the tour of the fort! The rangers do a great job of explaining the history of this fort and how it evolved. I am not sure I would have spent much time walking around the fort without the guide, though there are informative plaques around the fort. The view from the top is very nice. There is a small... Beautiful area right on the gulf, great walking trails, and great to walk all around the old fort. You don't necessarily need to go out of your way to see it, but if you're looking for something neat to do, it's worth it!

Be ready to pay a park fee and also for chairs and a umbrella. Snorkeling was poor and the water was rough. Beach sand is average.

We visited this fort after seeing Dry Tortugas so this was less impressive. We did explore a bit but the fort itself is not very big and maybe took us half and hour. We were not impressed with the bike trail and many trails were walking only. The beach seemed lovely though we didn't go prepared for the beach. We... More

This is a great place to spend the entire day. The Fort is cool to explore and is a wonderful place to take photos. We didn't do the tour, but I would do that next time to hear more of the history of the place without having to read all of the placards. The beach is beautiful, facilities clean, great... More

The actual fort is in quiet a bit of disrepair. There are some improvements currently being made on the grounds near the entrance which should improve the experience.
