    A nice little stop
Fairly informative. Really enjoyed the tower. A nice man named Joe was providing corny jokes and information to everyone which was cute. Not a bad little museum if you take the time to read the exhibits there is some good information.

I give it a thumbs up!
Visiting Key West, I decided to do some touristy stuff, so I decided to go to the shipwreck museum. It was very interesting, it will keep your interest. It’s not too long either, so it never gets boring. Also wasn’t expensive at all. I give it a thumbs up for sure. You should definitely take the time to go through this museum.

    Great for all ages
This was really a great place. They do a great job at making you feel like you are in an old ship. It’s awesome to see all the artifacts they have. Capt John was very educational and fun. The look out tower has a great view of key west.
Thank you so much for your detailed comments! We're so happy you had such a wonderful time, and we hope you'll visit us again when you're in one of our destination cities.

Guided by a young lady in period dress we "traveled" through a wrecked ship, learning about the treasures off the Florida coast, how treasure laiden ships came and went from the port and how many were salvaged by people who became known as "wreckers". Very interesting twist to the dangerous job of salvaging goods from wrecked ships. I'll let you find this out for yourself.

A two story museum dedicated to Key West maritime pass, and the salvaging or the shipwrecks, which made Key West famous and rich. Numerous artifacts on display of every topic imaginable. I think everyone favorite exhibit was the fact we got to lift a the weight of a bar of gold. There is a night tour on the ghost tour bus ride if you so choose. The elephant tusk are fake ivory. Afterwards you can climb up the wooden watchtower which is kinda scary with the wind and that fact it's all wood. The aquarium is across the street and a large gift shop and there is a small conch eatery vender near by.

You cannot miss this museum - a wooden structure with a lookout tower just in front of the Mallory sq.
It's theme is very inviting, as Key West has a great history of pirates and shipwrecking. However, the displays are somehow lost in time, below average and it seemed to me like a theme park kind of musuem oriented to tourist's money.

Our group didn't enjoy this museum at all. I am giving 2 stars because at least the look out tower had a good view of the water and Key West. Nothing in the museum is particularly interesting and it was hard to get through all the information. You basically have to read through tiny paragraphs on pieces of paper next to each item to gain any knowledge. There was apparently someone who explains things from a little booth near the start of the museum but that person wasn't there when we went through. It's also quite a small place. Don't waste your time.

We were really excited to see this museum but once we were in, we were a little disappointed. I guess I thought there would more to see shipwreck wise or interact with. My kids were very bored, and they usually like museums. There was no one in the museum to ask questions to about items also. The look out tower is nice to go up and look out. We were in and out in about 20 mins.

Small museum, explains/shows the history of what drove the treasure hunting in the keys. There was an actor dressed in period clothes telling /answering questions about the turmoils of the time. It has a great birds eye view of Key West from the lookout tower, 6 stories high! Good value, I recommend this for teens & older.

My favorite part was the observation tower. The views were wonderful. The short video when you first walk gives a short history lesson on wreckers in Key West and how it really became built up. It’s nice but short. Prefer Mel Fisher but that’s not really apples to apples.

Great fun and learning experience! I took 8 friends who’d not ever been to KW and I wanted them to learn about the history of the island. They all loved it! Our guide was hilarious and informative. The artifacts were good and tour was worth it for sure!
