Lloyd gave us an entertaining tour through the quieter streets of old town, stopping to smell the flowers and taste the local fruit & nuts, literally lying everywhere. Lloyd was well organized and ready to go when we arrived. It was informative and fun. If you're looking for a historical and typical tourist tour, take the trolley tour (also good), then take Lloyd's tour!

Lloyd is the absolute BEST!!! This is my 2nd time (year in a row) doing Lloyd’s Tropical Bike Tour with my mom and he truly doesn’t disappoint!
He keeps you on your toes with his humor and storytelling, let’s you smell and taste fruit/plants along the route that you would never know are edible, and tells you amazing facts about Key West and it’s history. You get a great bike workout in without even realizing it and have fun along the way. Time flies!! Thanks for the memories! Caitlin and Cathy

What I liked: 3 hours duration (not too long or short), shaded, eclectic view of the city, many stops, pace good for all riders, lots of fun foods along the way, overall route being away from what visitors usually see
What I was neutral on: going wrong way down 1-ways (little traffic, common with locals to do)
What needs improvement: verbal sign posting and cageyness. The only context we were ever given about the tour was the fruit we were eating. We were never told about future stops or just generally what was happening beyond the names of the fruit. We stopped, ate fruits, rode on and repeated the cycle with little narration or even small talk. Heck the grand finale was a botanical garden on the shoreline and I had no clue where we were since he never introduced it and instead when we got there held up the tour to explain why he thinks nobody points tourists to this spot because tour guides don't get commission to send people there (never mind that presumably the reason he takes the tours there is cause it is free to attend therefore minimizing operating costs for him. It's all a business no matter how you slice it and that's okay!). The second area for improvement is just cageyness. Lloyd gave us 30-90 second diatribes throughout the tour on things ranging from how the fruits don't make anyone sick, coconuts falling are not a danger, how the middlemen in tourism industry take too much money, how horrible drivers/motorbikers are and how kids muck up tours among many other topics. These were topics often asked either innocently or brought up in jest and the folks on the tour instead got whole helping of frustration that they weren't expecting. It was sort of jarring to be done with the tour and realize I never heard a single thing about any place we went or any positive attributes about the city we were touring. When you start so many of these rants with words to the effect of "in 30 years of me doing this...." the subtext is you are angry and frustrated with a lot of these things. If you don't love what you do like you used to, no shame in hanging up the cleats (or bike shoes). If you still love it, would definitely look towards considering these areas forimprovement

I can’t believe I got 4 stars,,, thank you. I love to rant about anything I feel is pertinent to living in Key West, my life and my tour. I think the reviewer and myself have much in common....... ranting. I think the reviewer had a really good time.

Lloyd gives a unique perspective on Key West. He has many personal stories and anecdotes as he has lived here for 50+ years. Especially interesting is the different trees and foliage he shows on his tour. And he is funny to boot!

This is the first thing you should do on your trip! Lloyd is a fantiastic guide with lots of character. I enjoyed his stories and learning about the fruit and plants on the island. We tried bananas, coconuts, mangoes, and many other fruits that grow on the trees! The fruit was the freshest I've ever had too. We also learned about some of the houses and the history of the island. We stopped by the Key West Garden Club, played some of Lloyd’s famous instruments, and took some beautiful photos. The bikes were comfortable and the tour was easy and enjoyable! If you are looking for a peaceful tour filled with laughter and enjoyment then you need to try Lloyd’s Bike Tour. We are already planning to take the rest of our family on this tour next year. Thanks, Lloyd!

This tour is is the best one on the island by far. It's the equivalent of getting a behind the scenes tour of your favorite tv show. Lloyd will take you to his favorite spots on the island and show you things you would've easily passed if you biked on your own. He is accommodating, kind, and an amazing tour guide. We've been on this tour as a family almost every year since 2009 and we learn and try something new every time. ANYONE can go on Lloyd's tour regardless of ability. If you are spending any amount of time in Key West it is a must do while on the island!

We had a great time with Lloyd, who evidently knows everyone in Key West. It's great to hear from a longtime local about a place that many people just pass through. Lloyd shows you the natural side of Key West, including what fruits and flowers are in season. We loved sampling the fruit of prickly pear, star fruit, and tamarind. We saw parts of the town we would never have found on our own. Lloyd is his own person and has been doing this tour for many years-- it's his love letter to his true home.

We loved our private Lloyd’s tropical bike tour, so much more than just stopping to smell the flora of Key West. Starting out with his impressive conch playing, we enjoyed all the informative & funny stories, trivia, riding by famous author’s homes. Stopping to taste, and talk about prickly pear cactus fruit, Spanish limes, starfruit, juicy sweet Mango, fresh coconut. Beautiful Peace walk at Key West Garden Club by the sea, on site of former Civil War fort. We experienced so much of Key West on the casual bike ride, we never would have seen.

Great trip and guide. Quite a few years ago. Cruise excursion back roads bike tour. Loyd was excellent. The Zen garden we visited was incredible
I have been trying to find the zen garden on the web so I can forward its location to a friend who is currently wintering in key west. Any links to this place would be appreciated. There was a koi pond and a crystal kiva with zen quotes on the beams under the deck. Thanks Loyd!

I sent you an email. The medicine garden changed hands many years ago. It was an amazing place and it was a gift that the owner John Hillman better known as Pejuta allowed me to bring my tour into his property for 10 years. It is now a private property. The garden closed about 10 years ago but I assure you my tour is better than ever.

Didn’t actually take the bike tour….but will next time. Lloyd was leading a family through Key West Garden Club and grabbed a few of us strays to join them. He was so upbeat, full of unique facts about Key West, and led us in a “jam session” with his bag full of instruments. Fun!

Child=15 months old. Did read there is a child seat ..so just making sure a child this age could accompany the family
What is the minimum age? I have two children ages 11 and 9. Can they ride the bikes too?

What is cost if we have our own bikes? And are there other costs involved? For instance, I saw photos of a 'bird sanctuary' from people who had gone on this tour. Thanks!
