These guys are extremely impressive. I’ve been on several charters over the years and none even came close to the level of expertise this crew showed. When we came across a school of Mahi these guys didn’t miss once. We went out with Adam, Troy, Chris, and Jimmy’s son Chris and they were all fantastic. Incredibly knowledgeable and hard working. Jimmy’s son, who is only about 10 years old, knew more about fishing at his age than I think I’ll ever know, and he’ll make a heck of a captain some day. Very much looking forward to coming back in the spring!!

You want to fish? L&H is the one! We have been aboard twice. Once with 3 young kids ages 6-12. The Capt and crew had the patience to help the young kids fish. The 2nd time we were all adults. Another successful Family fishing trip! Capt Jimmy and his crew are professional, experienced and devoted to the sport. If there is fish to catch they will find them. The boat is clean, well kept and very comfortable. We are looking forward to the next trip.

We had a great day on a day of very choppy weather. 12 sails, a few kings, including a huge one.

We did gaff one cobia, which I was really looking forward to eating. The crew and the Captain didn't tell us it was short. Heading in, the crew didn't tell us it was short. When we arrived at the dock, no crew member told us it was short. When we asked where the cobia was, as it was missing from the cooler with the fish to clean, we were told it was "short, and thrown back into the water".

This seemed bizarre, as the industry standard is to let the paying crew team know right away if a caught fish is released or released subsequent to gaffing it.

I don't know if the crew kept the cobia for their financial gain, but it sure seems like they did. it is unfortunate that such an expensive charter would taint a trip right at the end playing these petty games.

Sincerely,
Arturo Peña, IIII

We sincerely apologize that no one mentioned until the end of the trip that the cobia was released. We are extremely certain that this was completely unintentional by all of our crew members there that day and it was in the heat of the action moment. As I recall, we had a triple header at the time, a sail, a kingfish and the cobia, the fish had been brought in and as we moved to reset and re-rig our lines one of the crew quickly measured and released the fish while it was still alive. We then continued with great action the rest of the day and I can assure you that none of us stopped to think or intended to fail to mention to anyone in your group that the fish did not meet the minimum 33' requirement and was illegal to keep. Please understand that we were not trying to hide anything from you. We appreciate you letting us know so that we can try to avoid any future situations like this. We had an awesome day with great fishing, thank you for fishing with us!

We had a great time fishing, but when we got back we had the situation were they said that, they would keep half of the biggest fish we caught. Instead we got rip off as they kept more than half of the whole trip catches and on top of that they gave us a big additude. We paid for the trip and gave a 300 dollar tip and on top of that they were not happy. We believe that we really got rip off on our catch.

Booked a half day charter this past weekend. We were forced to catch bait for the first 45 minutes of our charter even though they already had plenty of bait. We caught very few fish, and most of those we did catch were with our own techniques and our own rods/tackle. We caught a few small snapper on a rod and reel that was so big you couldn't even tell you had a fish on. Seemed like the crew was just going through the motions. Quite the let down.

We are sorry the fishing conditions deteriorated as the green water moved in and the current died making for a tough day. There was a sailfish tournament that day and boats were running 50-70 miles to search for better conditions, something that cannot be done on a half day trip. It was at your request to bring and use your own gear to which the crew did their best to accommodate. Our crew works extremely hard day in and day out and unfortunately some days the fish win!

We were on the fish all day!! We caught over 24 fish. Capt Jimmy, Andre, and Mike were very nice and professional! We had a party of four and at times couldn't keep up with all the fish the crew were hooking up to! Their main concern was that we had fun;.... mission accomplished. We will definitely use these guys again and would give our highest recommendation to anyone considering using
L and H for their private charter!!!

Bottom line is if you want to actually catch fish, go with Captain Jimmy. He has been fishing South Florida waters his entire life. He is dedicated to the industry and has trained crew members who are excellent guides for the novice or experienced. I have been fishing on the L & H a number of times and I have never been disappointed. I usually go with my family and we always have a good time and catch lots of fish. We took my son out for a surprise trip and came home with a cooler filled with dolphin. In November, we went again with friends and within moments of putting the lines out, we caught a huge tuna. This is an experience you don't want to miss. Don't waste your time or money on any other charter.

Setup an all-day solo trip out of Miami because with all the stuff going on in my life I DESERVE IT! Then felt guilty and asked 6 people who live in SoFL to join me and none of them could... So the SOLO trip was meant to be.

Told Captain Jimmy that I have fished the Keys, Hawaii, Costa Rica for Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna on multiple trips, other people on the boat caught what I was looking for but I never hooked up on my turn or my designated rod, hence the solo trip. Well God and the Angels were with us on this trip. We started with a beautiful Purple, Red, Orange, Pink and Blue sunrise. We caught about 30 bait fish within 15 minutes on the rocks, and on the way to some spots that Captain Jimmy knows we trolled and caught our limit of 4 beautiful Kingfish. At the wreck around 300 feet deep we caught two 50 lb Amberjack and then a 40 lb, then a throwback red Grouper, a Trigger Fish, 2 Red Snapper. Then the next Amberjack we don't know what size it was because all we boated was the head. YEAH a large Shark took it for breakfast. And they say "Sharks aren't a problem!" Then within five minutes we got another 40 lb Amberjack. Oh by the way this was all before 8:45am.

Then we decided to head out to the Gulf Stream, deeper water, to troll for a Marlin or Sailfish. The crew, Andres and Laurel, were great had all the tackle and outriggers set up in 10 minutes and we were fishing again. Over the next few hours looking for bird sign, floating seaweed or debris, with no bites on the outriggers, Laurel finally spotted something then saw 3 Mahi Mahi, we hooked one (which woke me up from my nap in the AC/cabin), and left it in the water then they whole ocean was ‘swimming’ in Dorado.

Andres and Captain Jimmy were unhooking fish and baiting hooks with Laurel and I running the rods and we were pulling them in so fast that the deck was flopping. Fish, Rods, Bait were flying around the boat and all four of us were in a beautiful choreographed charter fishing dance looking like some sort of Harlem Globe Trotters fishing exhibition. So much commotion that Laurel swung a fish in and it went crazy and BOOM, fish tail in my face, while I was pulling in my fish. A small 3 foot Shark was around the transom of the boat and even with us trying to avoid catching it we caught it 4 times, yes the same shark. And they say “Shark’s aren’t a problem!” we released it each time. Well we caught our quota of 40 in about a hour, to tell the truth I don’t know how long it was because I was having so much fun I lost track of time.

We decided to start heading back and took a break from fishing so the crew could clean up the boat, yes it was messy. I decided to finish my nap, remember my nap. Andres setup the trolling for Marlin and Sailfish for the ride back, you know just in case. Well, I was well into my second dream, as a race car driver, when I heard my engine was over revving, OH NO, I HAVE TO MAKE A PIT STOP!, so I jumped up. It was not my engine, it was the small tackle rod and reel directly off the stern. Andres handed it to me and I asked him what it was, he said “I don’t know but it is running, REEL, REEL, REEL.” So I started reeling and I was losing, so Captain Jimmy, said “He is taking line too fast!” and then he put the ‘L&H’ into ‘reverse rumble mode’ (I think he has a special button for that) and I was able to gain some line but he was still running and we still didn’t know what it was. Meanwhile my arm is about to fall off after 4 Amberjack, and I don’t know how many Mahi, not to be deterred I kept reeling. Then a surprise jump, Angels singing in my head ‘Aaaahhhaaa”, I see my Sailfish, there it is 200 yard astern. Still in ‘reverse rumble mode’ and waves splashing over the transom and hitting me in the face, while laughing my face off in sheer jubilation, not caring that my arm and shoulder are screaming for me to stop, I kept reeling. Well we got him to the boat and a measurement and a few pictures later of the beautiful 80 inch fish we released it. I asked Laurel later where we hooked it and she said “In the bill, the barb wasn’t even in, you’re lucky there was no slack or you would have lost it.” Well there were 2 times I saw line piled up in front of my rod tip , there was slack in the line, I couldn’t believe it. It just reminded me that God and the Angels were with us on this trip. On the ride back to Tampa I couldn’t stop smiling and kept saying “I can’t believe that just happened”. Then it hit me that having a great boat and an extremely experienced Captain and Crew make the job of God and the Angels easier. Or is it the other way around?

Including the bait fish, crabs we netted around the boat to be used for possible bait and all the fish we caught, Laurel, Andres and I counted 16 species caught. If you exclude the bait fish and crabs it was 11 species caught, not a bad day at all.

Boat Details: 46’ Hatteras Sport Fishing Yacht, Extremely well maintained, I didn’t believe that the boat was built last century, 1979, it looks like it is 10 years old. A/C Main Cabin (that works), Refrigerator (that works), plenty of napping space (I like naps)

I will definitely be coming back and bringing my friends and my kids.

We had a fantastic run outside Miami with Cpt Jimmy. In one afternoon we caught 53 tunas and a number of other fishes. I have been out on a few boats before and of course we where lucky getting 62 catches but Cpt Jimmy really knew his stuff and found the best locations to fish in. The crew where professional and it felt very safe without being too strict. If you gonna fish close to Miami, go with L & H!

L&H had a beautiful sport fishing boat. They kept it clean despite the bait preparation.

We got off on time, and as soon as we cleared the channel, outriggers were set up. We trolled for an hour with no luck- some bait was taken but no big hits.

So our kids could have some action, we requested to do some drop fishing. We then enjoyed some success: catching Bonita’s, orange roughy?, and other fish. Nothing huge, just a few keepers but the kids were engaged. We did this for our remaining time. Kids starting competing each other.

When we docked they filleted the Bonita for us.

Overall, I recommend this boat.
