We were told by our manatee guide that the island was a bit of a hazard for boats and that the zoo wanted to re-house some misbehaving monkeys, so the two things cam together and bird island was born. Its a nice oddity in the river and worth seeing if you're down there. I wouldn't make the trip specifically to... More

Had seen this tiny attraction years ago and remember it as being much larger and enjoyable. Viewed the island from the almost attached restaurant and while taking a guided cruise on river. Monkeys looked fed up with tourists and ready to throw something at you. But it was free and kids probably would get a kick out of seeing the... More

This tiny island is the happy home of about a handful of monkeys. Eclectic in it's 'design', but a nice thing to see. The monkey's watch you as you view their home, swinging & playing. Nice little sight on your way out to the gulf.

We stayed at Homosassa Riverside Resort and watched the monkeys the entire time while we ate and drank at the restaurant. You can see them from any of the outside areas and inside the main restaurant. We were disappointed that the weather never got good enough to take a boat tour because we saw people in their personal boats go... More

I have heard about Monkey Island for years. This was my first trip to this area. It is a little tricky finding the place, Monkey Bar, but well worth it. The whole neighborhood, on the water, reminded me of my childhood trips to Florida down US 41! This area is old Florida and any visitor in the area should visit... More

If you've never seen a monkey exhibit you might enjoy this. We are in Homosassa 2 or 3 times a year and always slow down to look at the monkeys, but.... seriously no big deal!

Have viewed bird island from the boat docks nearby. Have not be in a watercraft to get a closer look. You can see the monkeys from the docks, watch them eating and swinging from ropes.

we took the boat tour and got very close to the resident monkeys. so cute! the tour is just a great way to relax & enjoy a boat ride. nothing spectacular, but very relaxing. I had more fun when we got back to the dock & a fisherman was cleaning fish & giving the Pelicans the scraps. resident blue heron... More
