Highly recommend. Pontoon boat was very nice. Guide was very knowledgeable. History of the area very interesting. Saw many species of birds. Saw sea-otters. A pod of porpoise played around potion for at least 30 minutes until we had to leave. Again, highly recommend River Safaris Adventures out of Homosassa Florida.

Free!!! Five monkeys well kept. You can see by land or boat. Park at Homossasa resort before the boat launch. Monkey island is behind the monkey bar currently being remodeled.

The Homosassa River has a ton of fun, if you can find out which way is the best way for you to access it. You can take a formal dinner cruise at the Homosassa Riverside Resort, you can take an airboat ride with Capt. Stu or Capt. Russ or River Safari's and Gulf Charters. You can hire a guide to take you fishing, you can rent a boat at MacRae's, Homosassa Riverside Resort or River Safari's and Gulf Charters. You CAN NOT appreciate this part of the coast without a boat ride, it's instant infatuation whichever way you decide to explore the Homosassa River.

My three boys unanimously said they would not want to go kayaking here again. The water way is narrow given the number of rented pontoons and fisherman casting immediately adjacent to the roped off area for the manatees.
A rented pontoon tried to t bone our kayak while we were less than 30 feet from a dock.
We loved the area but would choose another river/ springs to kayak or a guided boat tour.

Beautiful river. Just afraid of the bacteria we keep reading in the paper. Love taking Grandkids to see the Manatees. Kids get so excited..

If you like the outdoors and wild Florida, please take the Halls River north from the Homosassa River intersection by boat. Only kayaks and flat bottom boats will make it to the head of the river. Springs galore.

The Homosassa River is a beautiful river. The river is full of life. Manatee, Fish, and crabs are just a few of the things you'll find swimming in the river.
If you put in from Homosassa it takes a little while to get out to the Gulf if that is where you are heading.
There are many small tributaries that you will find along the Homosassa. Many of these are great places to cast your line.
Holidays can be a very busy time on the river. There are times I swear you could walk from one side of the river to the other, boat to boat and never get wet.
The Homosassa River is a great place to spend a lazy afternoon on a boat or in a Kayak.

beautiful see through fresh spring feed river which leads out to the gulf of mexico. beautiful scenery all the way to the gulf. you can see mullet jumping out the top of the river if you to close they will flop in your boat no hook or pole needed. theirs lovely homes, restaurants you can dock at,and islands throughout the river.one end is the spring were the homosassa springs park sits and theres a area for boaters to free float and you can swim in the springs. very beautiful and refreshing if you take a dip.there are also hotels/motels you can dock up at and get to if you come in by boat or can come down of yulee drive to the end and enjoy. there is a little tiki bar right on the water there and they do music, etc. you can see pelicans everywhere and their is a little island we call monkey island with cute little monkeys on it only. never a dull day on this river. the indians named it homosassa river cause homosassa in their native tongue means river of many fish and that it is

Lovely place to spend some time and just relax. At the top end is the State Park which is well worth a visit and at the other end the Gulf also worth a visit. All the way down , or up, there are lots of things to see and do. There are currently five Bars restaurants most of which give reasonable value and service. Boat hire is available and is very worthwhile. It's the only way to see the river at it's best.

Does the entrance from the gulf have a boating channel? Is it a long trip into the springs? Thank you.

My friend and I will be driving up from St Pete with our own kayaks. We would like to know where to put in to the Hommosassa in order to connect with the manatee. We have also heard that there is a great cafe for lunch, directly facing Monkey Island. Can you help with directions to either/both a boat launch and the cafe?

There's a terrific put-in place and it's free to use. It's at Riversport Kayaks where they do tours, sell kayaks and rent them, but they allow individuals to use their ramp that is safe. You can call them at 352-621-4972 for exact directions from where you are. If you have a GPS, the address is 5297 S. Cherokee Way, Homosassa, FL. Once you're there, and put the kayaks in the water, you'll turn right and will immediately see what's referred to as Bird Island - where Spider monkeys live and play. Circle this island for good photos. When you're ready, just turn right and continue on the Homosassa River all the way to the Wildlife Park where you'll see a platform. The manatees are still around in great numbers - We watched them swim under our boats the other day. What fun. I know you'll have a great trip. Best, Arline
