So happy to host “northern” family during winter in Florida. The hour we spent kayaking on West Park Lake was great for everyone! The county park facility is in great shape, clean and well maintained. We saw iguanas, beautiful mangroves, pristine brackish waters with small fish and native birds. Location is so convenient to Fort Lauderdale or Miami. Rental price for kayak/canoe was Uber-reasonable. It does demand effort but with life jackets and healthy teenagers (14 y/o) it was a great experience.

Last year we did not do the South Trail. Therefore we did it this year. total trail is 2,3 miles. Beside the different trees we did not see anything which was interesting. Take in account that most of the trail is unpaved.

Nice that it’s accessible by water taxi. Great place for those of us who would rather be in nature rather than crowds or traffic

You can walk to the park for the beach, but it's a little over a mile. So, you will probably want to ride a bike. Go to the north end of the Broadwalk and turn left at Paisitano. The path leads to Highway A1A and the intersection with busy Sheridan Avenue. Go over the Intercoastal Waterway bridge stopping to check out the great views, and then continue on Sheridan, past the Anne Kolb Nature Center on your right. Look for two giant kayaks with their bows stuck in the sand on your left and that's the entrance to the park. There is no admission fee if you walk or bike in, but they do charge for cars.

This is a small park that is mostly used by families who are picnicking. Just past the entrance turn left and follow the signs to the nearby marina where you can rent canoes and kayaks by the hour.

We rented sit-on-top kayaks for an hour at a cost of $14. If you want to spend more time it costs more. There are several water trails that wind through the park. You get a handy map with your kayak and there is a signed water trail that takes about 50 minutes to paddle. It's essentially a narrow canal that winds through the mangrove swamp until it comes to the Intercoastal Waterway (IW). You paddle across the IW and there's a trail on the other side that does a big loop back to the IW and then you return back to the marina. This is an easy and fun way to explore what southern Florida used to look like, and a great way to spend a few hours away from the busy Hollywood Beach scene.

For those who want a longer paddle, there are several other longer trails through the expansive mangrove swamp.

I spent my birthday afternoon with family on the mangrove trails of West Lake Park, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The staff there (Sam and Nico) were so incredibly helpful, informative, and welcoming, and we saw lots of wildlife, including crabs, a green heron, ibis, fish, and vultures. We had a choice of single or double-occupancy ocean (sit-on-top) kayaks and opted for two singles. They are very easy to maneuver and comfortable.

Just a tip for the first-timers: Wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting wet, and leave the non-waterproof items in the car/at home/in a watertight bag or container. Sam pointed out the water routes on a map for us, and Nico is great at helping boaters in and out of the boats and offering tips.

I live in Ft. Lauderdale, and this is one of the closest places to rent kayaks, canoes, or SUP if you want to immerse yourself in nature rather than paddle by houses. They have inexpensive options for 1, 2, or 4 hours, and it's a great place to keep an eye out for birds, fish, crabs, and wildlife among the mangroves.

We had a lot of fun kayaking in West Lake I enjoyed the mangrove trails. The day we went was very windy so kayaking the actual Lake wasn't very fun. But there were still lots of wildlife to see in the mangrove trails.

My wife and I rented kayaks and paddled out to the red trail and back, taking a couple of hours. The park itself is beautiful and consists of a lake and three paddling trails through mangrove forests. The admission to the park is only $1.50 per person and the kayak rentals were $24 for 2 hours, not a bad price in today's world. The park is clean, secure, and the staff there were friendly and helpful. The north half of West Lake connects with Anne Kolb Nature Center where you can dock for a break. We will definitely go there again.

Wonderful place to kayak, paddle, canoe, and explore the mangrove. The main route takes about 1 hour and if you like to kayak longer then you can do the tributaries. We came to Hollywood for a conference and wanted to kayak for an hour. Looked up this place which is only 10 minutes drive away. Easy to get to and entrance fee is only $1.50 per person. For kayak it's $10/hour with life vest. Do remember to bring your sunglasses and hats. Friendly staff who gave us instructions and helped to launch the kayaks. Easy maneuvering and calm water. Glad to be able to get away in the middle of the day to enjoy the nature. We saw herrings and eagles. Would recommend this place.
