This attraction is often overlooked, and you likely won't spend a great deal of time here, but the stop is well worth it.

We visited the car and then did some research online. It's amazing to know that similar box cars still exist around the country!

If you're a rail enthusiast, you will thoroughly enjoy seeing this bit of American history.

The Merci Train car is a neat piece of history not many know about. These train cars were a gift from France after the war. Easily located off US1 at the Holly Hill city offices you should stop if you are interested in history. There are a few signs discussing the boxcar. You can't touch it but it is easy to take photos of.

The Merci Train was a gift to the people of the US from the people of France, given in appreciation for the Friendship Food Train that Americans had sent to war-torn Europe in 1947. The train consisted of 49 WWI era boxcars. Each car was filled with hundreds of gifts. Each state received one with great reception. How this one ended up in Holly Hill is a mystery to me but definitely worth seeing. Nicely restored and resting at city hall. Definitely worth seeing if you're into history and/or trains. FREE

It's kind of neat to think of all those men and/or horses fitting in this! A gift from the people of France, this was used for troop and horse movement during the first and second World Wars. It has been nicely restored.

This is a wonderful piece of our country's history. It's a quick, free stop and a wonderful way to learn history for adults and kids alike. We went into City Hall to read a little more about it then found that there is a history museum right across the road. That also is worth the stop.
