Such a pleasant trail, very safe and secure! So enjoyable at all times of day! Not a taxing route, pretty flat and scenic!

Lots of birds and small wildlife

Lovely little nature preserve immediately east of Gulfport Marina. It's full of flora and fauna and a great place to take a stroll near Boca Ciega Bay.

Hidden in Gulfport

Clam Bayou Nature Park, hidden away in Gulfport next to the Marine/yacht club. Great place to explore, Florida how it should be in its natural state, plenty of wildlife, beautiful views. Great location to watch the sunset with the Don Cesar in the back ground.

Nice way to spend an hour

Great little spot to enjoy water life and beautiful birds. There are several small boardwalks that overlook the water. It is also a great place to kayak, very secluded little bays. There is a kayak ramp. The bayou is free with free parking.

There are many ways to take part in Clam Bayou... but kayaking is the most satisfying. Clam Bayou is large enough to forget that you are in an urban area! We put our kayaks in the water elsewhere on Boca Ciega Bay and enter the Bayou on the south near the shore. You can meander in the nooks and crannies for hours and likely not spot another human! Also I don't believe you can spot any buildings or rooftops either... although there is a boardwalk winding through the park you will feel solitude in nature. The boardwalk is wide enough to bike it, and it is a somewhat short but an interesting trail. When you bike out of the park on the south side, there is a water bottle refilling station.

For the past two years we have visited Clam Bayou Nature Park on the Gulfport side as it’s a short walk from our rental house. (29th Ave S and Miriam St) It’s a small park with several boardwalk paths off the shell paths that take you out into the “bayou” where you can view osprey, herons, an occasional roseate spoonbill, mullet and sting rays. You can also sit along the waterway next to the marina and view the boats entering and leaving and there is a fish-cleaning station there for those who manage to catch something! Parking is available although we rarely see any cars in the parking lot.

This year — we finally figured out how to get to the “other side” at 37th Street S and 34th Ave S. There is a kayak launching station there and very limited parking (about 5 cars if everyone is cognizant of sharing the space plus 2 handicapped parking spots.) There are also restrooms at this location. There is also some parking at 27th Ave South which is technically outside the Clam Bayou park but the pathways connect you to the park. At the 27th Ave location, you are only a short walk across a bridge to a “manatee viewing area” (although we didn’t see any — there is a big sign!)

There is a short path from the 37th St parking lot (on the left) that has a boardwalk and an elevated (tree-top) viewing area (zig zag ramp (of about 1 story) instead of stairs so wheelchair accessible). If you head off on the path to the right from the parking lot — it extends all the way up to 22nd Avenue through the mangroves with at least one offshoot out to the left to the water where we saw a sailboat moored within the canal there. It’s a very wide path as it’s part of the bike way but plenty of visibility so you can get out of the way. As you pass the large water area on your right — you will see the cut-off path to the right with the “Manatee Viewing” sign.

Enjoyable walk with views of lots of mullet, herons and osprey.

A nice walk to view the bayou

The walk around the bayou is pleasant. You will see birds searching for a meal. The paths are easy with decks out into the bayou for quiet moments.
