The Morningside Nature Center is a wonderful property on which to take a hike. There are great trails in the park, and you have the opportunity to take a boardwalk across a swampy area. The birding is fantastic, and the trails were not at all crowded when we went. We didn't spend a lot of time in the nature center itself but it was staffed and the person was happy to answer questions, give directions, etc.

Enjoyed a pleasant walk around the park on a warm, sunny Sunday afternoon. Although the Nature Center was closed when we were there last, it is great when it is open. It duplicates an 1800s farmstead and offers tours. We just had a nice time at a safe and pretty place to walk.

I've only been when there are no re-enactors. But this is a wonderful park to visit. There is a small cracker homestead and some livestock. There is the most personable cow. Her name is Penny and she likes for her name to be called and she wants all the pettings. All. Of. Them. Your hands will be solid black from all the dirt in her fur. Fear not, there are facilities in which you can wash your hands. However, when you walk away from Penny she will moo mournfully. Having plucked your heartstrings most expertly you will go back and pet her some more.

We love Gainesville Parks but the signage for this one was pretty sparse. I'm not an experienced orienteerer so part of my problem is that when you look at the map, North is facing down. We wandered around trying to find a trailhead and eventually walked past the farmhouse and picked up a trail, but we would have appreciated a few signs saying "Boardwalk this way" or "Cedar Dome" that way. There wasn't a single staff person - or other car! - there on a Sunday afternoon.

It was a lovely walk, but mitigated by never being quite sure where we were!

We have visited here several times, the first time on a day with no re-enactors and it was a pleasant, pretty and peaceful park. The second time was on a day of living history. How delightful. A working farm, animals, blacksmithing, the house has been restored to it's original including a fascinating loom and amazing kitchen. The people that give the tours and answer questions actually cook food there that you can taste. The people you talk to truly love the homestead and grounds and what they accomplish there with living history. Wish I could rate it higher!

Go on the days where they have the living history days, and get to sample free maple syrup. See characters dressed up as well.

We encounter a shower rain when we are in there, but I think it was really fun to get wet and hanging around the trees:)

The fall flowers are just gorgeous and attract a great number and selection of butterflies. However, the nature center and education space appear fairly run down and aren't open on the weekends (the property is, just not the small nature center). But, if you want to see native flowers and butterflies, this may be the best place in the Gainesville area

Love going to the Morningside Nature Center, especially when they try to make it very 19th century. There are nice farm animals and it attempts to mimic how folks lived in the Reconstruction period in the South.

There are nice trails in this park, but definitely go see the chickens and rams.
