Unique and Awesome
Dec 2020
Visited this conservancy today on a private tour. The weather was rainy and on the chilly side but still was able to see plenty of bats. My tour guide, Cassidy, was exceptional. She was very knowledgeable and willingly shared facts about the organization and the bats.

The bats are very fascinating to observe. They are extremely well cared for and have various types of enrichments to keep them engaged. Due to the close viewing proximity of visitors, it is easy to see the wing structure and others features of the bats.

A great educational/learning experience for both young and mature adults. Individuals may view the bats on Lubee's website. While the live cam is interesting and provides a glimpse into the life of the bats, the tour allows one to see the true size of these mammals.

Support this worth while cause and treat yourself to this unique tour.

Amazing Tour!
Dec 2019
I scheduled a private tour and my tour guide was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable and friendly. Being able to go in the enclosures with the bats was great for taking photos and getting up close and personal. The education Lubee provides is invaluable in helping people understand how important bats are and to not be afraid of them.

BIG bats!
Oct 2019
The Lubee Bat Conservancy is an internationally renowned -- and utilized -- haven for a number of different bat species, with a focus (for now) on large fruit bats (i.e., they are fruit-eaters -- not mosquito eaters). These are often referred to as "flying foxes". As you may know, they are mammals, with furry bodies and faces that to my eye are sort of a cross between a fox and a dog. The amazing thing is their wingspan -- up to 5 or 6 feet! I mean these are BIG bats! But mostly, they just hang around - literally -- upside-down, of course, and occasionally walk across the top of their enclosures to mun on some of the fruit shish-ka-bobs prepared by the staff. They are quite docile and, I think, very cute, and not scary at all. Access to the Conservancy is limited, though there is a big bat festival each Fall, open to the public, held in October, with boooths selling lots of bat stuffed animals, decorations, costumes and other things, plus a wide array of ecology-minded, conservation and various animal protection groups. There is a beer garden, and food trucks. But kids -- and adults -- are truly mesmerized by the bats. It is possible to arrange special tours by conacting the Conservancy office, but I don't have details on that. Loyts of volunteer workers. My advice: check it out on festival day, adversized on the website. There is nothing else like this place!

We went for my birthday, yes I wanted to go see bats for my birthday! It was their Open House. We had a great time and are trying to get back for the Bat Festival. Learned a lot and love being up close to the bats! Interesting, fun time!

standing right next to bats!
Sep 2019
I purchased a private tour for me and my daughter. My daughter loves bats and I think they are very cute and amazing. Our Tour Guide was Dee. She is very passionate about her bats and Ziggy, the tortoise. She took us into the kitchen and we prepared some food for the bats. Then we got to go inside the enclosure and stand right next the bats! And we got to brush them with a toothbrush on a stick. Dee knows their names and personalities. She is also quite funny! She answered our questions and didn't rush us at all. We got to see the tiny Snarf Snarf and Chickpea. I would definitely recommend a tour for anyone who loves bats!!

Where else can you feed fruit bats?
Jul 2019 • Friends
Smaller than expected but amazing. Tour guide Dee was terrific-enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We learned about the running of the facility as well as how the bats are cared for and then we entered an enclosure and fed chunks of melon to fruit bats via skewers! Amazing experience.

Truly a GREAT tour!
Jul 2019 • Family
We went to Lubee for Bat day a few years ago, then went recently for a private tour. I'll talk about the tour first, which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We went with a group of 5 and had another group of 2 on our tour. We got there and parked in front of the main office, then we got started. Dee was our tour guide and she is truly a gem and Lubee is lucky to have her! She is so passionate about the animals and nice.

First stop was to visit the tortoise, whom we fed lettuce to and aloe vera. We got to pet him and learn about tortoises.

From here we went to the kitchen, learned about the bat diets and saw them preparing fruit. Outside of the kitchen Dee discussed the different buildings in the compound and the history.

Next was the bat house. We learned about the different groups of bats (you do NOT touch the bats) and asked lots of questions. Dee knew the answers to all of them. We did an enrichment activity where we got to pet the bats with toothbrushes - this is the closest you come to touching them.

There was a corn snake that we got to see as well (a very small guy).

And then we went to the gift shop and that was it! We did not see the bats paint but they do have bat paintings for sale. They took our donation fee at the end using a square credit card reader. Since there were 2 groups in our tour, our tour cost for 5 was only 50$ (!) but we bought some t-shirts and stickers as well. There are also TINY bats in the office that you can see.

If you love bats, you will love this tour! If you are terrified of bats, I would still recommend this tour. You get to learn so much and are always a safe distance away from the bats.

You do need to drive on a dirt road. You will be in direct sunlight for part of the tour, so plan accordingly if you are sun-sensitive.

What an AMAZING experience!!. My husband & I took a private tour (highly recommended)! We had such a fun knowledgeable tour guide Dee! We learned sooo much about these misunderstood beautiful bats. Also met a cute big turtle😁 Our tour guide didn't hesitate on any questions we had. She knew the bats by name & their individual personalities. It was AWESOME being so up close & personal with them. We learned of some fun facts about the story behind the facility as well. These bats & Ziggy the turtle are extremely well taken care. After the tour was over we wanted to just go back & do it again. We highly recommend people of all ages to take advantage of this fun educational experience.

Thank you for your awesome review! The Bats are well taken care of and maybe a tad spoiled but it's all for the greater good! Bats are important to all our ecosystems and these tours are an important part of the dispelling the negative myths surrounding them. Thank you for visiting!! :D

Wonderful & unique!

My friend won tickets to Lubee and invited my family, including my 5 year old son. The tour is about 90 minutes and very informative. We got to prepare food for the bats, and go into the enclosures. My son loved "petting" them with the provided toothbrushes. Our tour guide Tracy was educated, passionate, and made the experience memorable. O, and there's a large tortoise that we were able to feed too. Definitely had an awesome time!
