Nice Farmers Market
May 2021
This is a pretty cool outdoor farmer's market. Came here with my brother in law and his wife because they needed to buy a giant bag of peanuts to feed the squirrels (can't make this stuff up!) and since I'm a total grocery store / market aficionado, we took the time to browse up and down every aisle -- fun and free entertainment!

The prices range from good to great, so check out the weekly specials for the best of the best.

This place oozes a family-owned atmosphere, and you can tell it's been around for generations. The employees are friendly and everything is neat and tidy. The fresh produce is beautifully arranged, and it's easy to find other nifty items like unusual spices, oils, and other goods. This isn't a place where you could do all of your grocery shopping, but it's an excellent place to find the freshest produce.

The usual suspects are here (broccoli, corn, peaches, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, etc.), but I was surprised to find more than a few unusual veggies and fruits, including an outstanding variety of different apples. They also sell an eclectic selection of Wisconsin cheeses and organic jams and sauces. You can also get random things like live citrus trees, fertilizer, pottery, and of course, ginormous bags of raw peanuts!

I love Nelson’s! My number one spot for produce, eggs, cheese, jams, jellies, coffee, plants, pots and more. You don’t have to settle for Publix mealy tomatoes.

Disappointing
Nov 2020
We drive 40 minutes to get to Nelson Farms and are usually very satisfied. However, this last trip we had a couple of disappointments. We picked a watermelon that was so hard my usband could hardly get a knife through the rind. The entire melon went in the garbage! I also purchased a package of sesame sticks that turned out to be stale. I know the melon is not a guaranteed item but when something is stale it should not be on the shelf for sale. This will to stop us from shopping there again, but only for the produce and not a packaged item.

Good Quality
Sep 2020
They have a large variety of fruits and vegetables. The tree and plant nursery is also quite good and I have an entire backyard of trees and plants from them.

Please consider covid 19

First time at the farm. Figured it would be a safe way to shop during pandemic. It was about 50% wearing a mask and 50% not wearing a mask. The floor plan is too small to stay 6 feet apart. I asked one customer where her mask was and she said " Worry about your own life" and I responded " I am". Many people are undergoing chemotherapy or have other immune deficiency issues. It should be a policy to require masks since the floor plan is jammed together. Although great prices and good quality, I will not be returning.

Thank you for your visit, In these trying times we are doing what we can to keep our employees and customers safe. We have sanitizing stations and cart wipes throughout the market. We constantly sanitize touch surfaces. We sanitize all carts and baskets daily. All employees wear face masks. There are no exceptions. We also have posters displayed explaining what we do and recommending what you, as a customer, should do. We recommend face masks for everyone. I too have relatives with immune issues. Nothing would make me happier than to see everyone with a mask on. Some people who do not wear masks are very confrontational about it. There are numerous stories throughout the nation of employees of retail establishments being spit on, beaten and even shot for requesting that a person wear a mask. I will not subject my employees to that. Please contact your county commissioner or your state legislator if you feel strongly about this. The only way a retail establishment could hope to require masks would be to have an ordinance or law to back them up. I understand why you can’t come now but I do hope you return when this is over. Stay safe, Dan Nelson

Fresh Fruits, Vegetables and NUTS!
Feb 2020
I truly enjoy going to Nelson's, it's been on Midway road for something like 5000 years according to the locals. But if you get tired of cellophane wrapped lettuce from Mexico at your local grocery chain stores, like I do, this place is for you. Their veggies are fresher than you will find anywhere - the produce I buy here lasts twice as long as the grocery store stuff. Plus its fun to browse as they carry many off beat fruits & vegetables you don't see elsewhere. In my case, I come for Brazil nuts. Nelson's has them in loose stock 365 days a year, and my pet Macaw is eternally thankful for that. If you want to spend a fun hour perusing around a local treasure, come visit this place.

I bought brussel sprouts, tomatoes corn on the cob, carrots, cilantro, cauliflower, cukes, yellow squash, bananas, lettuces and more! I didnt spend $25.00. Everything is so fresh. Then there are the multiple varieties within a category. There are also sauces and jams with sugar free selections as well. They also sell plants here!

Fresh Food Reasonably Priced

Nelsons is popular as it well should be. Good selection of fruits and veggies .. plus some dairy and plants. One has to wonder how they have remained open during the Midway Road repair debacle . a multi year fiasco.
