This museum and Smithsonian museum are just a 3 minute walk from each other. The combo price is only $5 for the 2 museums. The museum gives you a handheld wand that you listen to as you punch in the number corresponding to the exhibit. Very interesting history of the area. I didnot know that Jensen Beach was once the world pineapple capital. Many other interesting tidbits throughout the museum.

If you want to learn about old St. Lucie County and Fort Pierce make sure you visit the Museum. There are many exhibits about the Treasure Coast and I know you will enjoy it. Check the opening time and days open to be sure you have a good time there.

Nestled under the northern bridge in Fort Pierce, this local history museum has grown over the years into a truly professional presentation of what early life was like on the Treasure Coast . It has been polished over the years with professional curation, and is kept alive by volunteers from the active St. Lucie County Historical Society.

Especially interesting are the exhibits on the early Native Americans, Spanish Treasure and agriculture, including pineapples and citrus.

There is an old main street set up inside and the fully furnished Gardiner House from the early 1900s on the grounds.

The fees are reasonable (Under $4) . There is not charge for an audio handset. The staff is very helpful if you wish more information. There is a gift shop with books about area and other items.

It is near a small aquarium and by a long beach on the Indian River. The beautiful park next door is a perfect picnic site. It's also good for birdwatching.

I wasn't expecting much for this scheduled visit during my recent vacation in the area, but what I got was a big surprise. This place is extensive - both indoors and outdoors. Admission was $3, and it was well worth it. A lot of great local history is on display here. One of the volunteers - an almost 80-year-old who's also an Air Force Veteran (same as me, and stationed at the same base as me) - gave me a couple of personal tours inside the museum area as well as inside the historic house on the surrounding grounds. I didn't catch his name, but we had good conversations too. This was a 5-star visit !

This museum goes a great job covering the history of the county and the city of Fort Pierce. An excellent audio is provided for the self guided tour. Many great exhibits in chronological order starting with the Native American people. Many artifacts, photos, relics. Visit the 1907 Gardner House which was moved to this location. Admission is only $4, and $3 for seniors. Free parking.

Small but concise. No need to spend an entire day on a museum so an hour in here was just perfect. And since it is along the water you can't beat the views. You cannot go wrong visiting this informative and air conditioned museum !

This wonderful little museum is tucked away behind the Fort Pierce Aquarium on Seaway Drive, and is well worth the effort to locate it. Fully staffed by volunteers who are well-informed and happy to share their knowledge of the history of the area, it does a wonderful job of presenting life in Florida through the ages. I was especially taken with the Native American displays and history, much of which I had been unaware prior to my visit. It's an attraction that should not be missed, and which would be suitable for interested children aged 9 and older, I would think.

Enter the many eras of "Old Florida" at this local Museum for a return to the past. What was it like to live as a Seminole Native American? How were the Florida homes built to withstand the weather? Where did they find the Spanish treasures? Find the answers to those questions and more here!!!

It took one hour to look around the museum. A lot of local history, very interesting collections. There was a combo ticket the museum and Aquarium. My girls had a great time, too.

This museum does a fantastic job of providing information on the history and development of the Ft. Pierce area. The museum has interceptors/guides who are volunteers. Our guide's name was Jon and he was very informative and answered all our questions including those of best restaurants in Ft. Pierce. The museum covers the history from the first peoples of Florida and I believe they provided more information than most local museums. This is a great museum for a visitor to the area, as you get a crash course on the history and events leading up to current times. The admission into the Smithsonian Aquarium, gives you admission to the museum as well. The washrooms are clean and spacious and there is a quaint gift shop at the entrance. I bought a book written by Zora Neale Hurston, an African American anthropologist/teacher/writer who was years ahead of her time. Her grave site is in Ft. Pierce at 17th St and Ave. S. This museum is small with attention to attention to the visitor. I would definitely recommend this site.
