About
Heathcote Botanical Gardens consists of an assortment of specialty gardens including a Japanese Garden, Reflection Garden, Herb Garden, Rain-forest Display, Native Plants Garden and a Palm & Cycad Walk. These areas convey an atmosphere of individual garden rooms. Through this type of garden design, you will sense the intimacy of this unique botanical garden. Gracing the areas in between these specialty gardens are borders of flowering shrubs, bulbs, trees, vines and other assorted herbaceous plants. Niches found throughout the garden provide varied micro-climates, which allows the use of a wide variety of plants ranging from those found in Mediterranean climates to the Tropics. Home of the largest public tropical bonsai collection in the U.S. - The James J. Smith Bonsai Gallery, featuring 100 bonsai trees on permanent display. Heathcote's mission is to educate and inspire by providing a place of beauty and a resource for the conservation of our environment.

What a fun and pretty spot to visit! You can easily explore the entire garden in an hour, but you don't have to rush! The bonsai garden is super interesting. Each one has a placard describing it's style and how long it has been "in training".

Be sure to spend some time at the reflection pool. It is mesmerizing!

Heathcote is a small garden, run largely by community volunteers, so don't expect the most manicured grounds in the world.
If you need one reason to visit, it's the Bonsai Gardens and it's co-located Japanese pavilion. This is the largest display of tropical Bonsai in the United States, largely the work of one man. If you have any appreciation of Bonsai in your soul, then please go and enjoy.
The tri-topped Sable Palm is a unique feature as well. Don't miss the Tropical and Cycad trails.

We enjoy holiday light displays, so after seeing billboard advertisements for the Garden of Lights we decided to visit. Parking was across the street in an unlit parking lot, so walking was a little dangerous. There was an employee/volunteer in the street directing cars to the lot. There were two tables at the entrance where you could pay the entrance fee. Lighting was dim at the entrance area, so you had to be very careful as the ground was uneven. There were a number of paths to follow to see the light displays. There was a gift shop that was open, as well as an area with food, drink, and crafts.

The displays were pretty, and I'm sure it took quite a bit of time to set up. There was also a section with many bonsai trees that had lights on them. Many of the light displays had a Florida theme, and there was a model train set up. The light displays were well done.

A large display of Bonsai trees in many styles and of many ages. Front open garden area well tended with a lot of annuals. However, most of the other gardens were very overgrown and not well tended. Much of their support surfaces/ embellishments are rotting. For the price of entry, we were a bit disappointed as compared to other botanical gardens within 50 miles.

I visited this place early on a sunny and hot Thursday afternoon in June, and I only saw a few other visitors while I was there. (I bet it's packed during the winter months.) It's a nice place to walk around and admire the surrounding nature. It's actually much bigger than it looks from the parking lot. The Bonsai Collection is perhaps their highlight. I'm a Veteran, and Veterans get in for free, so I very much appreciated that !

This is one place you have to put on your bucket list. There are so many different gardens to visit. From bonsai to children's gardens. The children's garden area is both beautiful and educational. I MUST BE A CHILD, because I liked this garden the best. The bonsai garden was huge and sparks your interest. The only issue I had was it seemed to need some TLC, if they would pipe in some natural sounds, it would be more serene. But, a very nice place to visit.

This is a beautiful, though small, botanical garden with an amazing bonsai collection. Perfect for about an hour's break on a busy day. No children were around while I was there, but I could visualize the "outdoor classroom" being out to good use. I also appreciated the community vegetable garden. Go for the bonsai, for sure. Very interesting!

Our overall experience was rather disappointing. The lights were nice but the staff was not very pleasant and parking was a mess.
I know this is not the gardens fault but there was a signifigant number of people smoking as they walked around, they should have had a designated area for smokers.

Needed some tender loving care. Not what I had expected. The grounds were not very well taken care of. Although it was open there was not anyone there in the office.
Still worth the visit if you are in town.

I was very disappointed! Small, not very interesting. Some areas were not kept up or manicured giving the appearance of neglect.
