Always wanted to stop in but its closed on Mondays and Tuesdays! Great collection of A.E. Backus art and those of the Highwaymen. Nice movie about them also. Check out their special exhibits too. What a nice find with such wonderful Florida artworks.

A small but very interesting museum on discovering a painter’s life. Connected to a great group of local artists called the Highwaymen. Located in a great area, plenty of free parking, near the water and across from the Manatee house.

This a very pleasant small museum. However, it is mostly dedicated to AE Backus, whom we had never heard of. Some of his paintings are for sale, but they are very expensive (some cost $40,000). While some references were made to the Highwaymen, who have a local origin, we were disappointed that their works were not represented in the museum.
