About
Our charter boat the "Happy Day Today" is a 52' Hatteras sport fish located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the Bahia Mar Charter Fleet. We offer half day charters, 3/4 and all day deep sea fishing trips. The boat is fully equipped with all fishing tackle, fishing licensing, coolers, air conditioned vessel, safety equipment, dept sounder and navigational equipment. To name some of the species we target: Mahi Mahi, Black Fin Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish, King Mackerel, Grouper, Snapper, Sharks and Swordfish. Captain Tommy Zsak and son Captain David Zsak have been fishing for over 30+ years as the owner and captains of the "Happy Day Today" and the Top Shot Sportfishing Charters. Fantastic Trip - Highly Recommend

Two long time friends, my son, and I booked a full day trip with Captain Dave with Ian on board to keep lines in the water. I'll start by saying it was a great trip filled with memories that will last a life time so if you don't want to read any farther, you can stop here. Once out of the harbor and Intercoastal, we were catching bait fish which provided some early entertainment for the four of us. Once the real fishing started, we were trolling and kite fishing, which landed us two Kings and a Spanish Mackerel. Later we moved over to a new spot and again, Ian had lines in the water and Capt. Dave had us over some fish doing some bottom fishing.

I've been on a few charters where there is a lot of downtime and nothing's biting and it can be a little agonizing, but this wasn't one of those trips - there was always something to see or due and Ian kept us pretty entertained.

I would agree with one reviewers caution on getting a fish mounted - I'm doing it for the barracuda my son caught to preserve the memory, but its definitely an expense to weigh.

All in all it was a great trip creating fantastic memories.

Thank you for the excellent 5 star review!! We had a great charter with fun action from beginning to end. Starting with bait fishing, reef trolling then to kite fishing is an all around fun day. Glad everyone had a blast and hope to have you back fishing with us in the near future.

A fun fishing experience that’s completely worth it!!

If you are looking for a fun, affordable, and memorable fishing trip with a great captain and crew, Top Shot Sport Fishing is the way to go. The experience you get aboard the Happy Day Today fishing boat is like no other. The crew and captain are fully involved from the beginning of the trip to the end. You are even taught fishing techniques and given facts that will greatly benefit you and expand your knowledge in fishing and about the wildlife in the waters that your fishing in. It’s a trip that guarantees you a catch!!! This is a trip where you can just absolutely kick back, relax, have fun, and enjoy catching fishing alongside your friends and family. Once back at the dock, the fish you caught is cleaned immediately and perfectly by the crew and then stored in ice so that your fresh catch is ready to cooked and enjoyed. And if you’re looking to bring a trophy fish home to mount on your wall, then this is the trip to take to get what you desire. Take my word on what I am telling you, it’s a trip worth everything!! If you don’t believe me then you will just have to experience it to believe it.

Please read this full review of my experience while fishing aboard Top Shot Sportfishing! Last week was my first time fishing the Fort Lauderdale area, after talking with Capt. Dave on the phone I decided to book with him. As a charter captain myself in the Great Lakes Area, I appreciated the honesty and communication we had concerning possible weather issues and Capt. Dave's concerns my fishing party and overall enjoyment. The weather laid down and we were able to get out and fish. At the start of the trip Capt. Dave asked us what species we would like to fish for. We decided on fishing for sailfish since I have not caught one and it is/was on my bucketlist. We formulated a game plan for the best method to fish for that species.

As we left port, I was impressed with the cleanliness and organization of the boat and quality of tackle. We cleared the intercoastal pierhead, headed to the fishing grounds and began setting lines. Throughout the charter Capt. Dave and his mate Dave worked extremely hard to make our trip as successful and enjoyable as possible. Baits were frequently checked and replaced, and tackle and equipment were changed as winds and conditions changed. I was thoroughly impressed to the detail of the bait set to ensure a successful trip. We were successful and landed a beautiful South Florida Sail!

As exciting as the catch was, the conversation was equally as enjoyable!! I appreciated the conversation about the areas of the world that he has fished, the photos shared, and the stories told. You could hear how passionate and experienced he was and how it reflects in his fishing techniques.

As stated , being in the business, I was very appreciative of the work ethic and skill needed to put clients in the best possible position to be successful on the water. I would highly recommend Capt. Dave and mate Dave of Top Shot Charters if interested in a Fort Lauderdale Charter!!

Warsaw Grouper and amazing people

Capt. JB and Ian were able to put us in the fish and gave me the opportunity of a lifetime to catch am 80+ pound Warsaw Grouper for my 40th birthday! Being a native Floridian, I went out as an avid freshwater and inshore fisherman with high expectation, but patient understanding. Top Shot Sportfishing exceeded my every expectation with their knowledge, hard work, hospitality. I went out with a friend that has had both knees replaced. The crew went out of their way to ensure that she was able to get aboard the boat, able to participate and have a blast, then help her back off the boat. I would recommend Top Shot to anyone looking for a memorable day on the ocean reeling in some fantastic fish with fantastic people!

Fishing with Captain Dave and Mate Ian with Top Shot Fishing was a fantastic experience. We were a group of three. Started out the day with catching live bait (baby Bonita and blue runners). We trolled skirted baits on our way to each wreck and reef. The communication between Captain and Mate was exceptional for putting us on the fish. You could tell this wasn't the busiest of fishing days for these guys and we still caught Bonita, Multiple Barracudas and King Fish as well as a monster Amber Jack. The boat was very clean and comfortable. I highly recommend fishing with the Top Shot crew.

Simply the BEST: Happy Day Today w/ Captain Dave

I've chartered fishing boats for forty years and around the world, Captain Dave and Mate Ian are truly among the very best I've had the pleasure to fish with. The fishing was spectacular that day with Kingfish, Blackfin Tuna, Bonita, Silky Shark and a trophy Hammerhead (released), bloodying the decks. They never stopped working for my sons and I; with only 5 minutes of fishing left and the lines fouled, Captain Dave instructed Ian to reset the lines as we chased after a Wahoo. Happy Day Today is a wonderful boat that's been maintained well, especially the engines. Quieter than expected and no noticeable smoke to interfere with the fresh air. While I can't guarantee that your experience will be as productive as ours (especially since we had a truly trophy catch), I can say that Captain Dave will work overtime to make your trip a very memorable one and, like me, you will look forward to the next time you're in Ft. Lauderdale to cast off lines and fish on Happy Day Today!

Amazing experience!

This was our first real fishing charter and wow, did we pick a great one!
Capt. Dave and mate Ian were total pro’s and very courteous. We knew nothing about this type of fishing and were a little apprehensive about going, but Dave and Ian were total pros and made us feel very comfortable in no time.

It wasn’t long before we were catching fish, we caught fish throughout the entire charter including a 25 lb King Fish. What a blast catching and landing a king fish!

The fishing and boating knowledge that Dave and Ian have amazes me! Not only did we learn to fish, but also learned a lot about the local waters, tides, currents, and weather. I geek out over that stuff!

The boat was clean and comfortable, and had plenty of room for all of the guests.
I will definitely be back very soon. I plan to bring my kids with me next time!

Top Shot is top notch

Captain Dave and Alan were great. I had an opportunity to get out for a half day of fishing while visiting Fort Lauderdale. After researching charter captains, not charters, I found Dave Zsak. I've fished a lot of charters around the world, and have met a lot of guides and charter captains. None compare to Dave Zsak. Expectably, he was knowledgeable and experienced, but what I noticed most is how he cares to make your experience the best it can be, because you can't count on the bite every time. He worked the waters, changing tactics often, to find the fish. It was work, but we managed to find several species. But the real reason I rate this trip as excellent is that Dave takes the time to teach you about the fishing and the tactics. He creates fishing experience that is tailored to you. Next time I'm in town, I'm calling Dave.

Dave and Ian made sure we had a great time and ended up catching a 90 inch sailfish. They made sure we were well aware of what to do if we needed anything. Great communication before the trip as well

The fishing knowledge was amazing!!

It was my girlfriends first deep sea fishing trip. She caught a Sailfish because of these guys!! They put us on the fish as they knew right where they would be. We watched 5 sailfish from the bridge as they went for the bait then they hooked 2 for us to fight at the same time!! The new 52 foot boat they just got was an added bonus as it was nicer inside then the house we live in and it rode so smooth in the ocean.
