I attended a 4day medical conference here. The only reason I gave it a 4 star was for the food they provided (very limited & included lunches were bland), the fact they don’t allow you to bring outside food, and lastly the parking situation. They do have a place to purchase pizza inside and a snack area with coffee/frozen bagels. I spent $7 for less than desirable “Starbucks coffee” and a frozen not fresh bagel. I do have to confess they are under construction for the next 3 years but it was a hassle to find parking due to its availability. They did provide offsite parking with shuttles, however during the week it was a hassle during the week. One plus was that they did not charge us for the weekend parking. Overall, I would say it’s not a bad place for a conference but the availability for quality food onsite is limited and they don’t allow outside food.

I was apprehensive about how the parking situation would be for the convention center. Tips - the parking garage is part of the port so your car has to go through security. MAKE SURE each passenger has their license or ID. Also make sure you do not have a weapon in the vehicle. There is ample parking and a crosswalk straight over into the convention center. Very easy to park there.

There is always plenty of parking here. It is easy to get to, always clean, easy to navigate and fairly centrally located from several highways. Food choices could be much better

Was here for Fort Lauderdale Orchid Society annual show. Friday, getting there, was a breeze. Saturday, was a nightmare. Because parking is shared with Port Everglades and Cruise lines, those attending one of the three events in the Convention Center were barred from using the parking structure, causing massive traffic jams. Neither the Convention Center people nor the PD posts any signage regarding alternate parking. Total cluster....will never attend any event there. If I were an event organizer it would never get my business.

Went to the FL Keys with friends. We flew into FLL and had a can rental at Thrifty.

The FL PlatePass program is a scam between the state and rental car companies including Thrifty. Yes, I said scam. And, yes, I read all the info about the program and what it meant. Here’s my specific experience.

I arrived at Thrifty in the airport. I was directed to the Blue Chip counter in the parking garage. I walked up, showed the attendant my reservation and he said I could choose any vehicle in the section straight ahead. He did not ask me about PlatePass and I did not specifically decline anything. After I checked out the vehicle, I proceeded to the exit. The attendant there took my reservation and gave me a long printed receipt for my rental. This receipt shows all the coverages that were taken and coverages that were declined. In the section for Declined Coverages, there are coverages for different protections and waivers. Nowhere in this section does it show that PlatePass was declined.

That aside, I have an additional major concern about this. The toll plazas I drove thru were electronic only - no way to pay with cash. During my 7-day rental, I incurred 4 tolls for a total of $4.94. This was listed in the invoice I received from Thrifty which also included the $15 admin fee for each of the 4 missed tolls for a total of $64.94. Now, if I had taken the PlatePass option from Thrifty, here’s how that would have broken down. Its $8.99 PER DAY. With my 7-day rental, it would be a total of $70.49 including the FL state sales tax.

As a toll violator, it cost me less than had I done the right thing and taken the PlatePass option. See? This is why this is a scam. It is totally incomprehensible that 4 tolls can cost me $65 as a violator or $70 with the option. Either way I’m screwed.

FL and Thrifty should be ashamed of what the true out-the-door cost is of four inexpensive tolls! Don't know how the state can lure tourists and then rip them off for tolls.

I attend and exhibit at aleast 10 shows at different convention centers across North America every year. This convention center ranks in top five for me. The food is amazing not what you would expect from a convention center. It was over or under cooked. Also not your cheap finger food either, but the same quality and sizes you would see at a five star restaurant. The management was super friendly and went out of there way for all the guests. You can tell they are well experienced. Highly recommend.

I only gave this horrific place one star because there is not an option to rate it at ZERO stars. Everything about Thrifty and their customer service is TERRIBLE, AWFUL, HORRIFIC, POOR, SUBSTANDARD, INFERIOR and the list can go on and on. I tried renting from them twice and both experiences were awful. This experience involved a young man at the rental counter who told us that they had plenty of cars and we would be on our way. After authorizing our card for hundreds of dollars and running up our bill for options that we declined and having to dispute these charges for thirty minutes...we were finally on our way. We get outside and there are NO CARS; however, there were 30 people and counting waiting for cars and some guy with a clipboard putting names on "the list." We waited for over an hour to get the car. When I asked management and customer service why we were told that they had cars ready, I was met with some of the most disgusting attitudes I have ever encountered. No one was concerned and they all just kept saying they have cars. Then we were charged for an extra day AND an hourly rate when we were not supposed to be. There was a very nasty Ethiopian lady at the counter who saw this and refused to refund us the difference. She instead yell, cursed and decided that it was appropriate to fling the rental contract at me instead of placing it in my hand. Oh, she was upset because I mentioned that we could dispute the charge with our credit card company and I guess that gave her the right to fly of the handle and treat us like second class citizens. Then a manager by the name of David came to us after 20 more minutes and refused to help us as well. I had to call Thrifty customer service SEVEN tines and stayed on the phone a TOTAL of THREE HOURS AND FORTY-FIVE MINUTES to finally get another young lady who was rude as well but she did agree to refund my card for the erroneous charges. Please take your business to EZ Car Rental or National if you can. Both of those companies have EXCELLENT customer service. I WILL NEVER RENT FROM THRIFTY AGAIN!

Very hard to find with no signage from any of the streets. Cramped location. Once you find the entrance to the garage, you have to go through security like you were boarding a cruise, complete with searching the car trunk, plus everyone in the car showing ID, and very long slow lines. The parking garage is dark, tight parking spaces, and scary. Walked the entire length of the garage, looking for the entrance. Finally found steel plate clad doors (like to a prison) with a tiny sign that said convention center. Once inside, it looked like an abandoned warehouse. Nice carpet and nice art on the walls, but that was the only bright spot. The staff was unhelpful and downright aggressive in their attitude -- they couldn't care less that you were there. Never going again if I can help it!

A badly designed building squeezed into a hard to access area with few nearby hotel rooms or restaurants and harder than need to be access from the airport if one has a chance not to go they should avoid.
