NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale is a dynamic cultural hub located between Miami and Palm Beach on vibrant Las Olas Boulevard in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale's arts district. The museum's distinctive modernist building, which opened in 1986, was designed by the renowned architect Edward Larrabee Barnes.

NSU Museum of Art's permanent collections contain more than 6,000 works, including celebrated holdings by the post-war, avant-garde European Cobra artists, the nation's largest collection of works by American painter William Glackens, and a significant collection of works by leading Latin American artists.

The museum's 83,000 square-foot building contains 25,000 square feet of exhibition space, the 250-seat Horvitz Auditorium, a bookstore and cafe. Its 11,000 square-foot AutoNation Academy of Art + Design is located adjacent to the museum and includes state-of-the-art studios and classrooms.

For a museum of its size and location, this museum has a surprisingly impressive set of exhibits, ranging from African artifacts to private collections of sketches by prominent masters and fascinating photography. The visit was made especially worthwhile by our docent, Gary Opper, who was incredibly knowledgeable as well as personable. He answered all of our questions and went beyond... More

We enjoyed our recent visit. We've not been happy with several recent exhibitions, but this one was quite varied and good. This is not a huge museum, but they often have well done exhibits, a lovely gift store and a small cafe with great Illy coffee. The Chuck Close Photographs included highly detailed descriptions of his process since the 1970's... More

A friend took me here and I was super surprised how great it was and I did not even know it existed. We cam during a special fashion exhibit that was wonderful. I will keep an eye out for this place. Nicely done.

Let me preface my review by saying I live 2 hours from Philadelphia and a little closer to NYC so I have gotten used to museums that you can get lost in for hours, maybe even days. This is not one of those nor do they claim to be. It started to rain and they are open until 8 on... More

Although I understand the reasoning behind it, I felt as there was an abundance of security guards at every turn in this museum. They were not stationary in their areas, they follow the guests. I once reached into my purse (for some chapstick, mind you) and two guards starting walking towards me from two different sides. Every time I looked... More

I wanted to check out the Chuck Close exhibition of photographs - it was fine though not exceptional. But the Italian fashion from the '40s, '50s and '60s exhibition was excellent. A big surprise. There are also two other small exhibits which are okay. This museum is rather small, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It is easy to... More
