There is free and plentiful beach parking here. Plus showers and bathrooms. There are chair & umbrella rentals and a restaurant (The Crab Trap) if those are important to you. We went right down the the water’s edge and “camped out” for the day. Since a red flag was waving, we were careful and didn’t go far out. Water temperature was perfect. It was a beautiful location.

If you don't want to pay at Henderson Beach, then I would suggest this one down the road. We love the beach and water at this one...not far to walk down to the beach from the parking lot and pretty ample parking. Clean beach.

This is our beach of choice when visiting Destin. The sand is sugar white, the water is emerald green, and the beach is wide. The park has free parking, but it can be hard to find if you don't arrive early!
There is a "bath house" with restrooms, changing areas, and an outdoor shower. The restrooms are kept clean. There are numerous picnic tables, several covered pavilions, and a play area. There are no lifeguard stations, however we have seen lifeguards patrolling the beach on four-wheelers when the surf is rough. There is also a restaurant located here, and you can rent chairs/umbrellas. The boardwalk is made out of Trex, so no worries about splinters if you are barefoot.
The beach attracts families, couples, and college spring breakers. We've never experienced a problem while visiting no matter the time of year.

We recently had our wedding at James Lee Park and it was beautiful. Great Location, ease of scheduling with park facilities, and cleanliness. There was no fee as long as our ceremony was under 50 people. The beach was perfect.

James Lee Park is a great facility with wonderful views of the gulf, a children’s playground, and on beach bar, the Crab Trap restaurant, and other amenities. If it weren’t for the terrible parking situation, I would give this place five stars. If you want to ensure a good place to park, then either arrive early or wait until mid afternoon when the early crowd leaves. Otherwise, it’s worth checking out!

The Emerald Grande's idea of "enjoying their private beach" was an absolute pain and a huge let down. We discovered this jewel and spent an entire day enjoying the beautiful water, beach, and picnic area. So glad to have found this, it saved our sanity and fed our need for beach time.

A GREAT beach area! Water is clear and it wasn't overly crowded. It was nice to have the bath house and parking so close! I highly recommend this beach....plus no cost!
