Originally wanted to go offshore for a full day trip but big waves kept us close to shore. We got immediate action the first time we put a line in the water. I caught a perfect sized Red Drum (26”), just under the slot limit of 27”. We went on to catch 9 monster Red Drum all over 30”. We also put in the box 2 Pompano and a beautiful Mangrove Snapper. We caught and released an amazing jumping Tarpon. We caught and released a 25 pound Snook. For the day, we caught and released several other species of various sizes. In 60+ years of fishing, absolutely my best day ever. Captain Fred (Frenchy) was knowledgeable, helpful, and really makes the experienced angler (me) and a complete novice who had never caught a fish (my guest), feel equally comfortable. I highly recommend you book a trip and leave the rest to Captain Fred for a great day of fun!

We had a fantastic day fishing with Captain Fred or Frenchy whatever you want to call him. We fished in shore because there were 5 of us and it was way too windy to be off shore. Captain Fred was patient with the kids and helped us catch a lot of fish.

At the end of the day we all had something in the cooler except my youngest daughter. She said "If I don't get one in the cooler it will not be from a lack of trying." Captain Fred heard her and got her to fish next to him. For the next hour (30 minutes longer than our booking) they both fished extremely hard, caught several (non keepers), lost a couple big ones, and finally gave up.... but not without giving all both of them could give. My daughter loved it.

After we got back Captain Fred cleaned the fish and gave me cooking tips. I grilled the redfish and mango snapper exactly as he suggested and we had more fish than the 5 of us could eat.

I have chartered a boat several times on vacation, Captain Fred is reasonably priced, worth every dollar, and a fantastic guide. I will book him everytime I am in the area, Thank you Captain Fred.

Capt. Fred or Frenchy as you will come to know is one of the best Captains I have fished with. My day of fishing we might not put up the biggest numbers but a cold front arrived the night before and drop the water temperature 5 degrees from the previous day. It was cold, windy and the waves were big so the conditions we're Great as you can tell :) Captain Fred is full of good information and great stories once we arrived at our spot he had our tackle setup and we had lines in the water within 5 minutes. Frenchy had live bait for us to use! This is a big plus for anyone who doesn't know a lot about fishing especially in the ocean. He has top-of-the-line gear and excellent terminal tackle. He's always checking your lines for abrasions to see if there's a need to retie. He uses light weight tackle so the fight is great no matter the size but it's amazing when you hook something big. If you're in Daytona or New Smyrna Beach area book a day with Captain Fred it'll be one of the best of your vacation. P.S. We did catch the biggest red fish I have ever caught!! Thanks Frenchy!!!

Captain Fred has a detailed knowledge of the water and the structures that hold fish. He was able to read the tide and pressure charts to put us in the best possible location, transitioning as the conditions changed throughout the day. He kept our lines baited and his tackle in good repair. We had a great day and caught fish the entire time.

I was very pleased to finally get a chance to fish with Fred a/k/a "Frenchie". He is very much in demand as a guide and you should call him as far ahead as possible to improve your chance of getting on his busy schedule.

My wife and daughter fished with me. Fred got on the fish right away. In February, the water is still pretty cold, but we caught a lot of fish. There is a reason that Fred is rated the #1 fishing guide in the area. He catches fish. All around us the other boats weren't catching much and at the same time we were catching fish and had lots of action. Fred has techniques and secrets and is willing share advice. He is a nice guy to spend the day with and his stories are good. He's very patient and a good coach. Importantly, he makes you feel that he is happy to have you on his boat. Some captains act like they are doing you a favor. Fred isn't like that. He's a genuine good guy.

I'm so glad we went and I'm looking forward to fishing with him again.

Be prepared that the charges listed are not what you will pay. The night before the trip, I receive a text that the charge is an additional $25 for "live shrimp"+ a gratuity charge that is unspecified.
The day of the trip the weather wasn't ideal. Captain Fred took us to three unsuccessful spots, all of which were located near someone's backyard dock and one under a bridge.

Only one in our party of 4 had fished before, but he explained nothing about the process, what to do etc. As for the $25 additional charge for "live shrimp", very few were used, mostly he used other small fish. The few fish caught were thrown back because they were too small.

Although the weather was poor and that isn't his fault, I expected from the way it was advertised that he would made sure that we went to spots where we would catch something. He seemed to linger a long time in three spots that you could have fished off a dock.

In the end we came away with no fish and if I was going to spend $25 on shrimp, I would have preferred to be able to eat them.

I am sorry ,you not have fish to keep ,but if a snook is ender or over 28 to 32 inch ,a redfish over 27 inch or mangrove snapoer ender 10 inch is a law ,you can t keep the fish is a felony i loose my licence,my boat and every one go to jail, and we fish the dock and inshore because when is 15 to 20miles wind and 6 feets wave, i can t take you to the inlet and near shore, and you complain i charge you 25 $ dollars of shrimp,is on my webside, and i d ont charge you for the bait i catch with my cast net at 3 am in the morning, i feel pain to see the review you write to me Capt fred

We asked for tarpon, and Captain Fred put us on tarpon. His expertise and knowledge of the area is evident. Other boats seemed to have trouble finding tarpon, Frenchy read the conditions and knew right where to go. Largest fish of the day was over 100 pounds. I am excited to fish with him again next time I visit the area.

My daughter and I went out fishing with Captain Fred this morning and had a blast! Snapper, Sheepshead, Snook, Reds, and a big huge Tarpon. We talked with and fished near a lot of other boats today and none of them caught as much we did. Even when the fishing dropped off later in the morning Fred knew where to go and how to fish to keep getting bites. I definitely recommend a fishing trip with Fred!

We caught a ton of fish! Correction, we were the ONLY boat catching fish! And we were able to take several home with us. Very kind and knowledgeable guide. Not only did we have a blast out there on the water, but we learned a few things too! Highly recommend The Fishing Guy to anyone looking to have a great time and learn more about fishing.

What a great experience. We had a half day trip booked. Rained the night before and temps dropped 20 degrees over night. While many of the other guides that talked to Fred in passing by us were not catching fish, Fred had us on the Reds and we seemed to be the only ones around catching fish.
Very personable and great with the 3 kids. We caught everything from a fishing pole to a octopus while getting a great view of passing by dolphins and turtles.
Worth every penny!
