We had several hours between when our cruise ended and our flights departed, so we visited Flamingo Gardens. The gardens themselves are beautifully kept and very tranquil. The blooming orchids were lovely. The animals were fun, the gift shop had excellent selections, and the food was fairly reasonably priced (loved the pickles on my cheeseburger). Special highlights were Olivia doing the nature show as she is a natural, warm, funny, and genuine speaker, and Carol who conducted our train tour. What an awesome hidden gem! I didn’t know this at the time, but they will store cruise ship luggage while you visit. This would’ve saved the cost of storing my bags at the airport for those few hours. Our cruise line should’ve offered this as a post-cruise tour option.

We stopped here as part of a visit to the area. We took advantage of the September special price offer with BOGO. We initially walked through the aviary section before catching the tram tour which drove through the park area pointing out trees, plants, and animals found there After the tour, we walked through another area with animals. The panther was hiding in the shade, but we did watch otters swimming and a bear sleeping. We thought it was a great place to visit.

I was happily surprised at how awesome flamingo gardens was. Between the happy animals and the outstanding gardens, we were so happy. My son and daughter in law were visiting from Sweden and my dil was over the moon about the orchids (and the roaming cats). All of the enclosures for the rescued animals are huge with a lot of enrichment items. The otters literally have a play land. It was rainy and cold when we were there but it didn’t stop us. There is a giant tree by the house that i wanted to live in. If you have an imagination and like plants/trees and animals/birds/butterflies then you will love this place. I could definitely see this as a great wedding venue! I can’t wait to go back on a sunny day

We visited on a slightly misty day but still enjoyed ourselves. There were many docents that were helpful in describing the various birds, animals, buildings and grounds. Lots of photo opportunities. We took the narrated tram ride that takes you through the grounds in the back. The map they provide was helpful also. We spent about two hours - but we didn’t go to any of the shows or see some of the animals, so you could easily spend 3 hours.

the tram tour of the gardens was quite good. The butterfly house wasn't the best I've been to (I've been to a few). But the very best part of this visit at the gardens was the up close time with the semi-domesticated flamingoes and ducks. Never been that close to real flamingoes.

Smallish animal sanctuary. Nice vegetation with plenty of shade to protect you from the Florida sun. It was fun to feed the flamingos and my teen loved the free roaming peacocks and cats. A little expensive for the amount of time you can spend there, but also nice to be away from the crowds of larger places. Ample parking. Nice staff. I think it would be really nice for a family with young kids who like to walk/run on their own. You can get really close to the animals.

A beautiful place. More animals than flowers but still a great place to visit. The tram is a nice way to cool down and enjoy the park. I would do that in mid trip, walk around half the area then do the tram to cool down and then the other half.
Thank you for such a nice review. We do have over 3,000 exotic and native plant speices so we hope you come back and get to see more of them

This was a beautiful park showing us many locally found birds and animals. The park was well cared for and the grounds extensivexand beautiful. Though it was January and raining there is plenty to do and has a cafe and food truck. Well worth a long trip to visit. We would especially like to thank Candy who went out if her way to help us get a ride back to our hotel.

Selective AHS

Upon my most recent visit to Flamingo Gardens I handed my AHS Membership to the associate at the counter. This time it was a Fairchild Membership ($130) as opposed to a Mounts Botanical Garden membership. You would think I handed the associate a bag of dog poop. Her face scrunched up and said “we don’t take this, if you ask nicely because you have driven far we may give you a discount.” I stated it is not mentioned anywhere. She replied “This happens all the time since 2011, Fairchild removed us and Bonnet House.” “People often say they are going to take up the issue with Fairchild.”

Before walking out my Aunt from Virginia flipped out her ASH membership ($35) and her Hillwood Estate Membership ($60 that got her guests in). Totally ridiculous.

Upon walking the garden I was paying close attention to why Fairchild would exclude Flamingo Gardens. Well the Champion Trees are dying, there has been no succession planting in the gardens or rainforests. The orchids in the trees are dying after being donated by growers, and the Platyceriums are left to rot in improper conditions. I was so glad I did not donate any plants or money upon this realization.

However there is a new show pavilion, new owl cages, and a new bird house being built. Flamingo gardens is a Zoo, despite identifying as a Botanical Garden.

The tram script is almost the same from 5 years ago with native plants being ignored, showcasing exotic fruits that 1% of people eat. They planted a new citrus grove next to the "Lychee, has anyone here eaten a Lychee before? They come from China!" that was not mentioned. Why talk about 100 year old oaks and the importance they serve when you can say "Jackfruit! The BIGGEST Fruit in the world!" "Don't sit under that tree!" They did add a butterfly house to the Tram route. I have opted not to exit the tram and enter it on multiple occasions.

The Wray house was also closed on our most recent visit, the tram driver told us it was open and to check it out.

Everglades palms nah, Invasive waterfowl YEA!

If you are looking for a great AHS Garden skip this one, If you like caged animals check it out.
If you are a Fairchild Member, This garden does not come close to the grandeur of Fairchild.

Flamingo Gardens is a beautiful local attraction which does not feel too commercialised.

We booked an experience with Josh the North American Black Bear. We got to feed him with fruit through a fence. It was great to spend time with him and learn about bears. The keeper was lovely and very knowledgeable.

Don’t miss the 1933 Wray house, as the talk was fascinating and really gave you an insight into the history of South Florida.

The gardens are amazing with lots of birds and other rescued animals.

Also jump on the land train tour, this takes about 25mins and the commentary is very interesting.

We didn’t have time to join the talks but there were three throughout the day featuring the otters, birds, etc.

Food options are a little limited with a burger type van and sandwich counter, but it was enough to keep us going.

This is a low key local attraction which is a nice alternative, and your dollars will be helping the animals.

Take rain jackets/ umbrella with you as most of the attraction is outside and you know what the Florida wear is like.

We went to Flamingo Gardens because my son loves flamingos and when he found out about Flamingo Gardens during covid I told him the next time we go to Florida we will go. It was a bit of a disappointment that due to bird flu he could not have a personal experience with the flamingos. When we arrived we were sold bags of flamingo food but all of the flamingos were sleeping. I guess for a place called Flamingo Gardens we expected there to be more flamingoes. I think there were around 10. There was a birds of prey exhibit that was good and you could get very close to them. There was another bird exhibit that just smelled terrible due to the bird feces everywhere. There are signs to tell you, that you may get pooped on and do not look up with your mouth open. There are Ibis everywhere, I likened them to pigeons. There are many free roaming peacocks that are happy to come eat out of your hand. We did not take the tram but did walk around and the property is lovely with large trees. There is a snack bar with reasonably priced food and smoothies. We got the fruit smoothies and as we were drinking them one flamingo woke up and slowly made his way over to where my son was standing with food. Soon the rest of them were over eating out of everyone's hands. They are beautiful and they were all different shades of pink. What was shaping into a just ok visit ended on a high note for us. I highly recommend the South Florida Adventure pass as we did 3/4 of the activities and this made it affordable.

Looooved this place! Relaxing! Fantastic leisurely day. Went on a day that was partly cloudy but warm enough to not be cold or hot. Perfect! Great, informative tram ride. The flora and fauna are wonderful! The collection of huge trees is amazing. Food was good. Had the best/perfect hamburger - Haven’t had one in a very long time in a restaurant. Thank you! The staff is friendly, helpful, and enables you to keep the begging white birds away from your table. 😉. Highly recommend going. The price is well worth every penny and it’s not outrageously priced like a lot of other attractions.

Take the tram tour. Watch the numerous peacocks show their feathers. Buy a bag of flamingo food in the gift shop to feed them. They turn their heads on the side to get it from your hand. Look at the tropical flowers and plants.
And if you buy the South Florida Adventure pass ($50 for adults, $40 for kids) you can visit 4 sites as many times as you want from May to September: Butterfly World in Coconut Creek, Sawgrass Recreation Park in Weston ( 15 minutes from Flamingos), Flamingo Gardens in Davie, and the museum of Discovery & Science in Fort Lauderdale. Even if you only visit 2 of the places one time, you've saved money.

A wonderful place to spend a few hours wandering in the loveliness watching beautiful animals and one of the largest alligators I have ever seen! Take the tram tour also, no extra cost and it takes you around the property with a guide who explains how this Garden came to be. An excellent place for adults and children to learn about South Florida. I would go again if I get down that way.

Flamingo Gardens just posted a BOGO deal on Facebook for the month of September if you buy your tickets at the door. Staff was very friendly. Bring your own water because it is HOT! Tram ride was nice and showed a lot of different plants over a wide acreage. Yessenia at the Wild Encounters show was awesome! Very knowledgable and great speaking skills. I’ve lived in Florida my whole life and I’ve never seen a wildlife show like that. Olive the raccoon was so adorable!!

I’ve visited Flamingo Gardens a couple of times and it’s a pleasure and absolutely worth visiting. However, this review is specifically for their customer service. I called Flamingo Gardens with a query about a zoo attraction I’d seen years ago and thought may have been there, but I wasn’t certain. It turned out it was not there. A few minutes after the call, the very attentive customer service person, Candy, called me back to tell me she’d figured out where, in fact, the attraction I was speaking of is. Amazing. Far beyond helpful and so appreciated. I’ll be sure to return to Flamingo Gardens for the lovely experiences with animals there, but also for the warm welcome from their staff.

Nice place and very well run. Tram is a great way to start. It’s got a bunch of animals in humane enclosures and the Wray House Museum was interesting. Especially the woman working there explaining the history. Just wish they sold wine somewhere on the property!

We visited Flamingo Gardens on a hot day in March and enjoyed it emencely. There is plenty of shade but if it is over 80 degrees I would recommend going either when they first open or later in the afternoon. I would like to mention that if you have a Botanical Gardens membership someplace else, then the entrance to the Flamingo Gardens is reciprocal . Totally makes sense to buy membership in my opinion and be able to visit gardens such as this one all over US for the price of one or two visits. We were very impressed with this garden and all the birds and animals on site. It doesn't look like much from the parking lot but you will be pleasantly surprised when you enter. I must do if you are in the Fort Lauderdale area! We will return!

Thank you so much for visiting and for sharing your experience. The Reciprocal Admission Program from the American Horticultural Society is a huge benefit for members of all the participating gardens. We hope to see you again when you are in the area!
