Very much a disappointment!
Mar 2021 • Couples
This is my fourth time at the Plantation at Crystal River. I was taking my boyfriend as a birthday present to swim with the manatees. I have to say, I was so disappointed at how dirty the hotel was. The new floors were filthy and not washed. The carpets in between the buildings were stained and filthy. I gave a huge scream as a gigantic roach ran in front of me on the stairs. The hallway smelled of dead fish. Our handle in the bathroom was broken. I could go on and on. It was really sad to see such a great hotel become so dirty. I did tell the manager Sondra about how disappointing it was and she compensated me on the bill but that was not the point. Thank goodness the manatee swim was fun. I will think twice before I go back to that resort.

Just So-So

I would like to leave a positive review for Plantation Inn, but my experience just wasn’t that great. We chose Plantation Inn because of the Adventure Center on-site and the Adventure Center was AWESOME!

✅ Adventure Center and proximity to manatees
✅ Pool (big, heated, on the river, nice landscaping, games)
✅ Bar served excellent cocktails

❌ Hotel messed up our reservation that resulted in higher charges and housekeeping trying to kick us out of our room early.
❌ Housekeeping services were nonexistent
❌ Restaurant was super slow. We tried eating dinner there on a Saturday night, but it was booked up. That was fine, but it would have been nice if the Front Desk would have told us when we checked in that we would need a reservation to eat dinner there.

Sleeper Beware ! The hotel will respond with lies to look good but DONT be fooled... ! It may look nice at first glance it tricked us too but it has massive internal problems ran by a clicky two faced , rude, aggresive, unprofessional, mean staff including the assistant general manager who covers up the employees as her ownself its like the hotel mafia inside I've never been treated so horrible by hotel staff in my entire life there are other reviews saying the same and I'm sure alot of good fake ones o don't recommendthis place its high risk. They put hits on guests that report valid things to the front desk to managers in effort to create problems to force guests out early as they did to us. The hotel is old, out dated, dirty, the guns missing half the weights, they close the pools/hot tubs with no regard to guests, carpets smell like a bandaid, it smells like a nursing home in some areas, the room a/c's and showers have black mold in them, a coffee maker had spiders living in them, garbage cans overflow all over. Housekeeper yells when asked for towels, they all band together to make up bad stories to gang up so they don't get in trouble and look better like they will in the hotel Reply you'll see, they call the cops on guests if you talk about anything they dont like OR are late checking out they are immensely forceful but let guests walk around smoking pot they operate crooked but maybe they do that so guests won't complain if they are high ...They let dogs bark during sleep hours with no pet policy or apologies - we recommend staying elsewhere there's other nice hotels around with plenty of local food options, pools and river tours without being overcharged

This place is so special!
Oct 2020 • Family
Went on a mother/daughter weekend trip with my 11 year old to the Plantation on Crystal River. We had never been here before nor did we know anyone who had ever come here before - so we were hoping for the best! We were blown away! This place is a hidden gem! It’s such a special place and if you get the opportunity to spend a weekend here you will walk away with memories to last a lifetime! Check-in was smooth and the person who registered us was so friendly and helpful and even included a special bag with a stuffed manatee since we had booked the package which included the manatee swim, room, and breakfast. Once we checked into our room I received a text message checking to be sure everything was to our liking. Our nightstand lamp wasn’t working and I texted to them about that and the response was immediate and they took care of the lamp right away! After checking in we explored the property and had an outdoor dinner at the “Tiki Bar”. Our server, Shelly, was so kind and took great care of us. The activities director spoke to us and invited us to watch a child-friendly movie by the pool deck that evening. The food was delicious! My daughter had a shrimp basket and I had a shrimp and scallops basket. The seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly. The prices were very reasonable! After an early night, we had a 7:00 am reservation to swim with the manatees! Our Captain John and Dive Master Mike were kind and informative. Somehow we were the only people scheduled for the 7:00 am swim which was amazing when we spotted a mother and baby manatee which we were able to swim with uninterrupted. The dive master was so patient and helpful to my daughter and he really went the extra mile to make her feel comfortable with her snorkel and swimming with these amazing creatures! After the swim they offered us dry towels and hot chocolate (because the water was sooo cold)! They were both professional, so informative, and gentle with the manatees as well as my daughter. We did have wet suits on, but even with that it was quite chilly, however, once we started swimming with the manatees we forgot all about the water temperature! After the manatee swim which will truly be a lifetime memory for us, we went back to our room to dry off and then headed to the breakfast which was included with our manatee swim package. Now, normally with most hotels the inclusive breakfast leaves much to be desired - so I was so surprised that our breakfast was in the main dining room and wasn’t a buffet, but we ordered off the menu. There was an amazing server who took great care of us and the food was so, so good! Like - made to order inlet for me and “manatee” pancakes for my daughter! It was beyond what I had expected! Truly! Then we headed back to the dive shop to rent a tandem kayak to head back out onto the water where we were again able to see more manatees! This time another mom and baby! These creatures are so gentle and mesmerizing to watch! After we finished our afternoon kayaking we had worked up more of an appetite so back to the Tiki Bat we went again for more fresh seafood and Shelly again took great care of us! Overall I can say - the accommodations here are not swanky, but the overall atmosphere here - the amazing outdoor activities and the staff and service here - honestly, we’ve stayed at a lot of hotels and the service I received here is the best I’ve ever received! The place is a gem! It’s truly special. The people here and the nature surrounding it are second to none! We made lifetime memories here. I hope we have an opportunity to come back again, but if we never do, I will carry these memories with me forever! Love the Plantation in Crystal River!!!

Hospitality is something they know nothing about. Staff is extremely rude and unprofessional & not the least bit helpful. Only positive is the scenery.

Overpriced, Poorly Managed, Great Location
Jul 2020
We have been going to the Plantation for over 10 years and I'm sad to see it going down hill. The carpet in the halls/ stairwell were permanently stained and there was mold growing our closet. The kids splash pad has been under construction for the last two seasons. Staff said the contractor quit and don't have a plan to finish. The sea wall is crowded on a slow day. They have the "Boat Club" and rentals which take up a ton of room. There is no place to dock your boat once you put it in the water which creates major delays in getting in and out of the water. Its no longer setup for patrons to bring their own boat. Overall disappointing for 200 bucks a night.

On a positive note the room was clean (except for the mold). The location is beautiful, close to multiple springs and scallop grounds.

Had a 2 night reservation, but after the first day they went in our room packed up our stuff and it was waiting for us at the front desk. WTF! They told us they needed the room for another reservation . Then they gave us another room that was the same as out original??? Regardless we had a great time swimming with manatees but not from the hotel that was twice as much as all the other companies.

Great nights sleep with pool time!
Jul 2020 • Family
A little pricy, but overall good. I wish we could have taken better advantage of the amenities but we were only here for 10 hours! (Definitely recommend if you have a boat or golf clubs) Rooms were standard, but the beds and pillows were super comfortable! I slept great, and the rooms were sound proof. Good food and drinks at the pools tiki bar, and good breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant. Well maintained grounds, and nice staff. Little more expensive than other hotels in area but beautiful atmosphere and they let us check in an hour early because our room was ready. Check in was easy and the receptionist was very nice and helpful.
