In late 1996 the City of Coral springs set out to build a recreation and community center. Instead they built the much nicer Coral Springs Center for the Arts, a performance theater and art museum. The Coral Springs Museum of Art was incorporated in January of 1997.
The museum displays art from culturally diverse Florida artists but they have also hosted blockbuster exhibits from more well known artists like Alexandra Nichita, Wolf Kahn, Duane Hansen, Clyde Butcher, Jose Bedia, Yuroz, and Dale Chihuly. They also display art that is on loan from other area museums such as the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art, and the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. They offer art classes for both children and adults. I used to take my daughter for their family art days where she could make a free piece of art and I have taken a ceramics class here as well.
Although this is not a large museum it is very nice. Large floor to ceiling glass windows look out from the hill the museum is built into. The large open space inside can be reconfigured depending on the exhibit. Admission is $6 for adults which is very inexpensive but they offer a number of free days too. There is also a fantastic sculpture garden set up around the lake surrounding the museum which you can visit for free. The museum also has a little library area and gift shop.
I came to the museum on a Thursday night to attend the artists reception for the new exhibit called Inspired by. "The Coral Springs Museum of Art presents an exhibition demonstrating the artist's individuality and creativity brought about by personal inspiration. This open theme, open media exhibition asks artists to complete the sentence: "My work is inspired by_______________."" My friend had a photograph accepted into the exhibition. I love my friends photo but I also really liked the other submissions as well. There were mixed media pieces and sculpture. All of the art was for sale. This is a great exhibit if you have the chance to check it out. It is running until March 7. This is the closest art museum to me and it is nice to have this resource in our community. Thank you to Coral Springs for supporting the arts.

This is a cute, intimate space designed for a single artist / exhibit at a time. It feels very open and spacious. There are some interesting sculptures in the outdoors. And it is all free.

My son has shown an interest in Britto, so when we saw that he had an exhibition there I was sure to take him.
This contact with the museum led to our discovering a stop-moton animation two-week summer camp that my son attended.
For a suburban museum (and performing arts venue) I'm really impressed by the Coral Springs Museum of Art.

I've lived in Coral Springs since 1991 and have a lot of paintings. I inquired about exhibiting my work a while back and was blown off. They act like this is MOMA in NY. This is a small local Art Museum people. Don't waste your time until the represent the real Coral Springs.

The museum was between exhibits, and has no permanent collection. All there was to see was the gift shop. Free admission for that!

I brought my 3 daughters to Coral Springs Museum of Art. If you have thought about going here, think of something else. First of all, some of the paintings and sculptures were inappropriate for
my little girls. The staff was VERY unfriendly when I asked them something about a few paintings.
I came her with my kids because we were on vacation and we thought that it would be fun. I will
NEVER EVER go back to that awful place again.

this small museum can be viewed in about an hour, depending on your level of interest. it is handicapped accessible and shares building space with the City of Coral Springs Auditorium. it is located at the northwest corner of Mullins Park. I would suggest going online to see what the current exhibit is, since there are some permanent pieces and then the visiting collections. One time I caught a Toulouse Lautrec exhibit of his real work. This museum tends to favor the more modern artists and can have some unique exhibits.

If you live in South Florida, this is a museum you put on list of things to do. It is not a large museum, but nicely designed and has frequent new shows that are always interesting. The sculptures and garden outside is also worth a visit.
