This Seminole tribal museum and outdoor boardwalk is definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in the history of native peoples. There is a brief introductory film made in the early 2000s that gives an overview of how the tribe has suffered and survived over the last 300 years. The museum exhibits of tribal life, arts and crafts are creatively displayed. The signage and quotes from community members on social and family life was very interesting, down-to-earth, and illuminating. Honestly, I surprised by the degree of scholarship and narrative thread that underlay the curation of the museum because I didn't know how well documented tribal life was. The outdoor boardwalk is solidly constructed and is about a mile loop; solidly constructed, this walk shows what flora and fauna the Seminoles lived in; unfortunately with the draining of the land, their life style had to change.
Clewiston is off the beaten path, about an hour northwest of Fort Lauderdale but it is worthwhile in my opinion.
We had lunch at the Swamp Water Cafe about 3 miles down the road from the museum; during Feb it was only open certain days per week so you need to check. The so-called Seminole and American fare leans heavily to customary American dishes, like burgers, hot dogs, fish and chips, and some salads. Very reasonably priced, with large portions and good service; order at the counter and the food is brought to your table.

We called yesterday to confirm they would be open today Wednesday, since tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day. They confirmed it would be closed on Thursday and Friday but said today they'd open it. We said we were arriving in the afternoon. When we arrived, everything was closed. Had they told the truth, we'd had plan accordingly, either putting the visit as the first thing in the day or visiting Miccosukee Indian Village. In the end, we couldn't do anything, because they simply didn't care of telling the truth when we called.

Mile-long boardwalk provided a quiet, relaxing environment. The area was pristine and serene. Plenty of signs identifying flora and fauna. Great place to wind down and recharge the batteries. The museum itself was also well-appointed with many displays explaining the life style of the Seminole people, including some of their legends. The staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend a visit but do bring a water bottle with you when walking the boardwalk and wear comfortable shoes/clothes.

Free parking. Feeding the fish off the boardwalk was so cool we missed the education video. If you forget your mask, they have some at the desk when you walk in, no need to double back to the parking lot. Nice museum, staff and grounds. Great gift shop. Be sure to make time for this if you are in the area!

There was a nice museum with interesting exhibits but the hike was superlative. It was a nice, short loop with lots of labels. It was raining when we got there and the woman working loaned us umbrellas. How nice!

We ended up lingering for a long time on the boardwalk loop. Its quite beautiful, well planted, and tended. Pleasant staff. Parking is a bit of a walk. Bring a lunch or take the time (lots of time) to get food from the stand across the street.

We enjoyed learning about the Seminole tribe and the displays were very nice. They have a lovely boardwalk that stretches about a mile and a quarter. Word of warning: our GPS took us on a gravel back road that was one way...no cell service and in the middle of absolutely nowhere. There was no room to pull over to the side either. This made us nervous because I don’t know how one would get help if your car broke down! Stay on I 75 the whole way instead.

Thank you for your review and we really appreciate you leaving a tip about the drive for other potential visitors! I'm going to research the various maps that GPS are populated with because you are the second recent reviewer who had this issue. Hopefully I can find a solution!

It’s an hour and a half from Fort Myers, but well worth the trip. Gave us a chance to see the vast expanses of the interior of our great state. Actually saw some mounted cowboys working cattle along the way.
The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum was an unexpected gem. It gave us great information about the history and culture of the Seminole people. Informative video, well presented displays knowledgeable friendly staff. Not a particularly large museum, but worth the modest fee. The building and grounds are first rate. You can’t appreciate the history of Florida without this piece.

Thank you for the fantastic review! The drive out from either Florida coast offers such a great, unique experience. Thank you for your appreciation of the Seminole story as a critical and often overlooked part of Florida history.

The museum was a unique opportunity to observe customs, clothing, food, buildings, village life and history. A 17 minute film was a great start. Staff was helpful, pleasant and professional.

This museum is very affordable at $10 and offers some fantastic history and displays. You start with a short (15 min) video giving you history of the Seminole clans and different origination stories. Then you walk through the museum at your own pace enjoying the exhibits and seeing authentic clothing and traditions. If you want to learn about Seminole history and culture and have a glimpse into native american life, this is the museum for you. You can then walk the 1 mile elevated boardwalk that gives you deeper insight into local flora and fauna along with seeing traditional Seminole way of life and displays on the 8 clans. I left feeling very informed, even though it's a bit of a drive into the everglades back country, it's totally worth it.

Is this an attraction where my husband can get around with a mobility scooter, can only walk short distances and then has to sit for a while.

Yes. The museum itself is not large. The outdoor exhibits are seen from a boardwalk. Should be fine for a mobility scooter.
What is admission and how long does it usually take?

Admission was $10 for general, $7.50 for students and seniors. Film was 17 minutes and very informative. About an hour more for the museum and 1-2 hours for the boardwalk and things along the boardwalk
