- podrozniczka60New Jersey16,679 contributionsWell organized and interestingParking is free and somewhat away from the museum but easily connected by a walkway. The museum consists of the indoor exhibits and outdoor boardwalk section. The tickets are $10. There is a family pack for 2 adults and up to 4 children at $30. Senior citizens pay $7.50. Museum includes interpretative exhibits, dioramas and educational displays, a bit eclectic but coherent including various elements like story and legend telling. The 18 min movie is an essential part of the visit. Our 3 generational group included 2 children below 4 years of age and everyone enjoyed the museum as well as the souvenir shop, but we especially liked the 1-mile-long outdoor portion of the museum. It consisted of a very easy and beautiful boardwalk walk. We passed ceremonial grounds and "live village" but unfortunately nothing was on display, and everything was empty. I am sure at times there must be some exhibits or programs there.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 27, 2023
- Joe M2 contributionsHidden gemAbsolutely one of the best "hidden" gems I have found. In my 55 years on this earth, I always thought the Seminole Indians were in northern Florida and had always been there. Probably because of the state university that is in Tallahassee. I also learned that the Seminole are actually a branch of the Creek Indian from the Eastern Alabama region and that they migrated to Florida to escape the Upper Creek immigrants and white settlers, among other things. They were never conquered. Beautiful recreations and original pieces of authentic artifacts. Absolutely the best staff, friendly and very helpful. My only complaint it that I wasnt able to spend more time there, but that was my fault, not theirs. Highly recommend this museum!Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 3, 2024
- Sandra F13 contributionsExtremely well done museum. My husband had received special permission to do research in their archives for a paper he was writing. They bent over backwards to help him, and everyone was warm and welcoming. While I helped him some over the two days, I spent a nice amount of time in the museum itself...and gift shop, of course. The museum really gives you a sense of the Seminole culture and the "mannequins" are modelled after real people...and they are so well done, I kept expecting them to move! I understand they are going to update/expand the museum in the next couple of years, and I can't wait to visit it when they are finished. The 1.1-mile boardwalk through the grounds gives an interesting perspective on the natural habitat, and informational signs tell about the flora and fauna as well. At one point there is a village re-creation where Seminole artisans demonstrate different crafts. Take the time to do this as well!Visited April 2024Traveled on businessWritten May 6, 2024

We called yesterday to confirm they would be open today Wednesday, since tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day. They confirmed it would be closed on Thursday and Friday but said today they'd open it. We said we were arriving in the afternoon. When we arrived, everything was closed. Had they told the truth, we'd had plan accordingly, either putting the visit as the first thing in the day or visiting Miccosukee Indian Village. In the end, we couldn't do anything, because they simply didn't care of telling the truth when we called.

It’s an hour and a half from Fort Myers, but well worth the trip. Gave us a chance to see the vast expanses of the interior of our great state. Actually saw some mounted cowboys working cattle along the way.
The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum was an unexpected gem. It gave us great information about the history and culture of the Seminole people. Informative video, well presented displays knowledgeable friendly staff. Not a particularly large museum, but worth the modest fee. The building and grounds are first rate. You can’t appreciate the history of Florida without this piece.

Thank you for the fantastic review! The drive out from either Florida coast offers such a great, unique experience. Thank you for your appreciation of the Seminole story as a critical and often overlooked part of Florida history.

We ended up lingering for a long time on the boardwalk loop. Its quite beautiful, well planted, and tended. Pleasant staff. Parking is a bit of a walk. Bring a lunch or take the time (lots of time) to get food from the stand across the street.

Free parking. Feeding the fish off the boardwalk was so cool we missed the education video. If you forget your mask, they have some at the desk when you walk in, no need to double back to the parking lot. Nice museum, staff and grounds. Great gift shop. Be sure to make time for this if you are in the area!

We enjoyed learning about the Seminole tribe and the displays were very nice. They have a lovely boardwalk that stretches about a mile and a quarter. Word of warning: our GPS took us on a gravel back road that was one way...no cell service and in the middle of absolutely nowhere. There was no room to pull over to the side either. This made us nervous because I don’t know how one would get help if your car broke down! Stay on I 75 the whole way instead.

Thank you for your review and we really appreciate you leaving a tip about the drive for other potential visitors! I'm going to research the various maps that GPS are populated with because you are the second recent reviewer who had this issue. Hopefully I can find a solution!

Yes, those quickie airboat rides all over the SE & SW coasts of S.Fl are OK to pretty good.
But if you really want to see the Everglades via Airboat, Giant Dune Buggie, and extensive exhibits, you need to check the web site above, and find out that turning off Interstate 75 about 1/2 way between Naples and Ft Lauderdale is reallly the only way.
You need to go early, because the tours take some time. Driving there takes some time (even after you turn off I 75.{TURN WHERE THE SIGN SAYS BILLIE SWAMP SAFARI}. (The place seems to cover 3 or 4 Fl counties)
Bring drinks in a cooler, maybe some food (there is a restaurant....looks like right out of the 1920s....you might not like parts of the menu. Also bring insect repellent for everyone....They have overnite excursions as well.
You may see a panther, wild boars, of course alligators ( also served in the restaurant), and much other wildlife, espically in the Buggy....which is so tall, it goes into the glades without needing to float. Was in entertainment book. Several tix tiers for different programs.....IMO a bit costly, but most will feel it is worth it.

We visited the Cypress Seminole Reservation and Ah-Tha-Thi-Ki Museum and Billie Swamp Tours a couple of days after Christmas in 2007. We were enthralled by the startling flatness of the Everglades on the trip there and then by the amazing biodiversity on the res itself.
The animals and plants, both cultivated and uncultivated were something to behold. There is a big hunting-fishing and agricultural culture thing going on that reminded me of Ontario and Michigan. The folks who worked at the attractions could not have been kinder or more
knowledgable. We went to the little restaurant located there for some gator nuggets (8 bucks), but they were chewy as they are wont to be and my son would not eat them...even if they did taste like chicken! The airboat ride was the bomb....the most exciting part of the trip for this old mom! Only went for the half hour trip (23.00) and would definitely opt for more boat ride on the next trip! A "critter show" went along with our package...featuring skunks, baby gators, armadillos, and alligator turtles. The host of the presentation was very well-versed and entertaining. Another presentation which we did not opt for, had mostly reptiles and amphibians.
During the airboat ride, the captain of the boat takes you out and stops the boat so you can just float for a few minutes...sure enough, gator eyes will pop up all around you!
It is a great day for all of the family, don't miss it!

Is this an attraction where my husband can get around with a mobility scooter, can only walk short distances and then has to sit for a while.
Written April 5, 2019
Yes. The museum itself is not large. The outdoor exhibits are seen from a boardwalk. Should be fine for a mobility scooter.
Written April 6, 2019
Admission was $10 for general, $7.50 for students and seniors. Film was 17 minutes and very informative. About an hour more for the museum and 1-2 hours for the boardwalk and things along the boardwalk
