We stayed in the Bonita Beach and Tennis Club, just across the road from the beach where Doc's Beach House restaurant is.
The beach is great for those wanting to stay all day and lie in the sand and sun and take a dip in the water from time to time. Staying around Doc's is a great place because of the convenience of having a great place to eat and drink and all the watersports on offer there.
The beach is great for long beachwalks which we prefer. You can walk an hour and a half in each direction if you like to. It's very pleasant and the private villas along the beach are just amazing. If you like architecture then there are some great examples of fine houses here on view. Some of them are on rental via airbnb if you have some spare money (they're quite expensive to rent).
The sand is fine and comfortable to walk on and to lie on. Not as good as the fine white sandy beaches in the Caribbean like in Turks or Jamaica but this is as close as you can get.
The sunsets are amazing. I brought my small tripod for my cell/mobile and it worked a treat. Make sure you watch it at least once during your stay.

Try to go at least once a weekend. Sometimes we find free parking just past the public parking lots....if not , we park at the lot next to Docs and pay by the hour with metered parking. I try to go early so we find parking and before it gets too crowded

This beach is a long strip of white sand, along which are numerous access points. We accessed it at Bonita Beach Park, at the south end of Hickory Boulevard. There is a reasonably good sized parking lot there. There are also rest rooms. Additionally, there is a lot of beach south of this spot that seems less crowded. Pleasant.

If you have never been to any of the Gulf beaches stretching from St. Petersburg Beach up to Clearwater Beach, you would consider this one fantastic. It's nice but the Tampa Bay area beaches are 10 time nicer: very deep not narrow beach areas, clean beautiful soft sand with very little shells to walk on except along the water line.
We live in St. Pete and this is our first Covid outing. Staying at a Naple Hotel so decided to drive up the coast to Fort Myers.
We did have a very nice walk along the beach. It was a Thursday and not many people on the beach so was easy to maintain distance from those walking or laying on the beach.
Would definitely recommend for anyone to check it out. If the main parking lot is full, drive North up the highway as there are Beach Access points every so many blocks with paid parking for 5-6 cars.

Nice enough beach that is very busy peak season. Rentals available for chairs and umbrellas from a local lady, as well as at Doc’s (Bonita Beach Parasail). Get there early! Limited parking for $2 hour.

Nice beach with plenty of sand. The beach is clean and not overcrowded. Houses line the beach with a few communities putting out lounges for themselves. Nice beach to walk on. Not a lot of shells but some noted. There is a place to rent jet skis. There is a restaurant on the beach. Parking can be a problem especially in season

We stopped for a picnic lunch on the beach as we drove from Key Largo to Sarasota. This looked like a nice beach based on the reviews and a convenient enough detour off the highway, but it really is NOT a visitor-friendly beach. There is not enough parking. Cars were lined up to get into the larger lot, and the other lots hold only 4-8 cars. We finally found a parking spot, and followed the public access walkway between houses to come out on a beach lined with mansions. We much prefer a natural looking beach with trees. As we walked along the beach, we found millions of shells, but they were all white and mostly broken, so not interesting to collect, and they made it uncomfortable walking the beach barefoot. We do NOT recommend this beach.

Early March is a perfect time for beach walking here looking for pretty shells and relaxing. One can understand why it is called Gateway to the Gulf of Mexico . The sand is delicate and white, the view picturesque in every direction.

Beautiful beach! Easy access with paid parking (be prepared to stand in line to pay at the machine) Lots of shells and also found some sea glass. Didn’t find a shower to rinse off the salt and sand on the beach access walk or nearby. Not sure if they have one.

The beach has 10 or so access points along the road. However each spot might be limited to 4 cars. Just keep trying. The access points are just feet to the sand. The beach was super clean and calm.
As a tip, there are a number of thrift shops nearby to grab a cheap beach chair and then re-donate!
The homes and rentals on the drive are awesome to look up!

Chair rental at barefoot beach

It's a long strip of sand with multiple parking lots and entry points. I do not recall seeing a commercial venue for renting chairs. We were at the furthest south parking lot, the largest one, at Bonita Beach Park. I saw no rental options there, but I wasn't looking for any either. You might call them to see. 239-949-4615
Last year I parked next to Bonita Springs beach and walked from the parking lot past a snowball stand at the entrance to the walkway to the beach. I have not been able to find that stretch of beach so I could return there, and would appreciate any help to find the area again. Thanks in advance.

Hi, planning a trip to Bonita Springs late March. Is the surfing good on the beaches there for a beginner surfer?
Tricia F

There would need to be storms prior for the waters around here to be very interesting for a surfer. You’re more likely to see SUPs on the water.

How’s the water now? I know the recent hurricane and red tide activities has had its impact, but looking for a CLEAR water beach in Florida to visit in the next couple of days.
