Thank you for your question! Most days, this excursion is leisurely to moderately active. We routinely cover several miles during the tour which is 3 hours in duration. The difficulty of the tour largely depends on wind speed and direction as well as the force of the tidal flow at any given time. It generally goes like so ...
Wind speed of 5 - 10 mph is considered pretty easy to do unless someone is in poor physical shape.
Wind speed of 10 - 15 mph is considered easy enough for some, moderately difficult for others and difficult for a small percentage of participants.
Wind speed of 15 - 20 mph is considered difficult to strenuous by most people. You will be issued a wind advisory by e-mail or text ... or both sometimes. We can still do the tour, but precautions will be taken by avoiding deep water channels and tidal flow. The entire tour is done in relatively shallow water and the tour will follow the path of least resistance. We prefer that you reschedule if possible when wind speeds are this fast.
Wind speed of 20 mph or more .... tour is cancelled.
We will not take you out in wind speed in excess of 20 mph. We are the best kayak guides out there, and that's why we won't do it. Your absolute safety comes first and keeping a tour contained at wind speeds in excess of 20 mph is a very difficult task, even for the best of guides. We will ask you to reschedule and if you cannot, we will refund you. We understand that cancelling a tour is disappointing and we have had people push very hard to go out anyways because it is their last day on vacation etc .... but we will not do it under any circumstances. We draw the line at 20 mph. We strongly recommend that you book your tour at the start of your vacation so we can reschedule you if we get unsettled weather. We strongly advise you to check the weather before booking if possible so you can choose a day with the lowest wind speeds at least chance of rain. Any kayak tour is always dependent on weather.
Great question! Thank you! :) :)
