We started our adventure in the famed Boca Grande Pass, and it was packed with fishermen. Captain Jason ensured we were rigged up with what he felt was the bait of choice for the day, and explained what we would have to do to navigate through the packed fishery to get an opportunity for a tarpon. Captain Jason put us on drift and we followed his instructions. Within minutes I hooked into a monster. I moved to the bow of the boat and Captain Jason eased us out of the middle fishing grounds so that I would have room to work the fish. Within roughly 30 minutes, I pulled a beautiful tarpon boat side. After a few quick pictures, and some time spent reviving the fish, it was released to fight another day. It did not end there. Throughout the rest of the morning we caught and released a steady stream of permit, all in the 30 pound range. If you have never experienced a permit fishing, let me try to explain. The first run peels off 80 to 100 yards of line and you think you have hooked a freight train. When you finally get the fish to turn, the battle truly begins. This fish has unending will to survive, and a fight that does not end. It is amazing!

Hands-down the best fishing trip I’ve ever been on. I am a Florida native and have been on many great fishing excursions. Captain Ramer knows all the great spots. He was engaging, attentive, and a great conversationalist. I’ve never seen anyone bait a hook and take a fish off the line so fast. A true professional highly recommend you go fishing with this guide. Our main mission was to catch dinner and we took home a ton of fresh fish. He made sure to give me a monster fish story as well catching the biggest gag grouper I’ve ever seen. What a fun fight that was. Stop reading this review and call him today :)

I’ve been fishing with guides for the past 20 years and I haven’t experienced this great of a time from a guide then did with Jason.

He didn’t just put us on fish, he kept raising the bar. We caught great sized snapper, sheep head, mackerel and bonita! Most guides would stop there, but Jason put us on Goliath Grouper and a 7ft Lemon Shark. We had shots at Permit and also human sized Amber Jack!

Jason is world class and provides a buck list trip! It’s the first guided trip that I walked away feeling he needed to charge me more!!!!!

Thank you Jason, you gave me fishing memories of a lifetime!!!

I’m an Offshore guy out of Port Canaveral, Fl and had never really sought out inshore fishing. My wife and I are here at Tween Waters on Captiva for our 30th and I booked Capt Ramer almost 2 weeks out from our trip. We booked a 6 hour trip with a Cabbage Key lunch in the plan. 0800 he picks us up at our Marina and at 0805 he noticed some Tarpon rolling just outside the Marina. Not even 10 minutes later I’m hooked up light tackle to a 50lb Tarpon, after a great fight he chewed through the leader and we were off to the next hole. He put us in Mangrove Snapper next, we got our limit of those and 3 juvenile grouper. Next stop we were back inside pulled up to a small Key and he proceeded to put my wife on a 36in Redfish which we landed, took a quick pic and released. Lastly we ended up on a flat catching Sea Trout then tried a few other holes for Snook. I then said let’s go eat! The three of us had an excellent lunch followed by a nice boat ride back to marina where he cleaned our Mangroves, and squared up. He showed up to the dock with a live well full of bait which some Captains will not do, his boat was perfect, and all his fishing tackle was top notch. Highly Recommend!!

Jason is a fantastic guide! My two friends and I were on a trip to check off a bucket list item. While out we hooked a couple sharks, a 5ft tarpon and a 16-17ft SAWFISH. While out on the boat we were given various tips and tricks on how to real in something of that size. Not only did we have an absolute blast, we learned a lot about fishing in the area. If any of my fishing buds from Michigan ask for an recommendations on a guide down in the Cape Coral area I will definitely recommend Jason!

I went out with some family to fish with Captain Ramer. I've grown in Fort Myers and fished the gulf all my life. My parents and their best friends have grown in Fort Myers and fished the gulf all of their lives, and still none of us can compete with Captain Ramer's knowledge on where to fish, and how to fish. We went out and started the day and caught an amazing tarpon. The process was smooth and fast thanks to Captain Ramer's skills of maneuvering the boat and choice and bait. He even knows the best angles to make sure your pictures were good. Then we ended up going offshore and after trying a few spots we found were the permit were at. We ran into the unique problem of catching fish that were too big to keep, but had a blast catching them anyway. I've fished the gulf for years and this has got to be on of my favorite trips and it could have not have been done by any other captain. I would highly recommend fishing with Captain Ramer. If you're shooting for a specific fish, he has the best knowledge of the area and will do his best to try and get you catch it, or if you're just looking to have a great time on the water and catch fish in general, there is nobody better than captain Ramer.

I’ve been on my fair share of fishing charters, I feel compelled to tell folks about the best of the bunch.

Book Jason if you are looking for a professional, courteous, down to earth fishing guide who will put you on the fish.

He books up well in advance with repeat clientele for a reason, I’m going to plan way out for our next trip to make sure we get a shot at another day like this.

We left out of the Tarpon Lodge, on pine island, fished the pass for some tarpon in the morning, got our fill of permit by lunchtime.

Great time all around, he’s my go to guide for this spot from here on out.

We celebrated my husbands 60th birthday celebration out of Tarpon Lodge with Jason. There were 8 of us , Jason scheduled a second boat for a girls vs guys competition . The day was perfect, lots of fish were caught. I highly recommend Jason for a family, couples, or friends day on the water!!!!!!!!
Between Jason and his wife Jenn communications for scheduling, were to meet
and any reminders were great.

Can't begin to describe the fantastic fishing trip we had with Jason Ramer. We caught sheepshead and red snapper. Jason cleaned it, we took it to Lazy Flamingo. They cooked it for our lunch and it was fabulous. Jason made our day fun and productive with lots of fish. I highly recommend Ramer Fishing charter to everyone.

In my opinion, find another guide. All day I told Jason where I wanted to fish. He said he had better places. Of course his places had no tarpon. Finally at the end of the trip, we went to the place I wanted and tarpon were all over the area. Then he rushed and said we have to return after telling me he would stay out longer if I didn't catch a tarpon. I'm not naive and realize that you don't always catch a tarpon, but expect Jason to give me the best possible chance.

Mr. Zausner It pains me to read your review. Jason puts not only his blood, sweat, and tears into our business but his love, passion, and dedication. I can tell you one of the best parts of my husband’s job is helping clients create happy memories that will last a lifetime. He does his best to make the overall experience a great one. Not only do we have many repeat clients but most become friends. Jason has been fishing these waters his entire life (43 years) and knows them better than he knows marked streets on land. Guiding is his full time job, it’s how he provides for our family. It’s not something he just does as a part time job or hobby. Unfortunately, there are going to be bad fishing days and not all Jason’s charters are going to be ones for the record books. Which sucks. We understand fishing charters are not cheap and your hard earned money could be spent on other things. But I promise you, when those less than stellar days happen Jason is walking away with more disappointment than the client. His reputation, and our livelihood, are on the line. We do not pay for advertising so our clients word of mouth is absolutely everything. I would like to address that your initial email to us said, and I quote “I will be the only one fishing and want to get tarpon, but won't be upset if we catch something else.” Followed by … “I like to fish tarpon where other people aren't and have my best luck in the gulf maybe a half mile off shore looking for pods of feeding tarpon. The only thing I don't like is chasing the migrating tarpon thru the pass following along with 100 other boats.” One of the hardest parts of a fishing guide’s job is dealing with unpredictable weather. The day of your charter the wind was not favorable. Winds were out of the east at over 25 knots so Jason brought you to the locations that were safe to fish for Tarpon. The day of your charter you suggested fishing in Boca Grande Pass (by far the busiest Tarpon spot in our area) which completely contradicted your initial request of not wanting to fish around "100 other boats." The conditions were not safe for anyone and the last thing Jason is willing to do is put clients, himself, or the vessel in harms way. While Tarpon can be found in Boca Grande Pass, the waves that day were close to 4-5 foot and from what I hear not many boats were in the pass because of the dangerous conditions. Later in the day when the winds died down and it was safe to enter Boca Grande Pass you had already surpassed the 6 hour mark of your charter. Considering you’ve fought a tarpon in the past you are aware that they could fight for well over an hour. If you had hooked a Tarpon at that point Jason would not have been able to stay out to see the fight through due to a prior commitment he needed to get to. I would also like to note, it is extremely rare that Jason fishes with any type of time constraints, but the week prior we had to purchase a new motor for the boat and it was due for a 20 hour service. This time of year Jason is on the water almost daily and the service had to get done. There was no getting around it. In your review you mention that you expected Jason to give you the best chance possible at catching a Tarpon. But what you failed to mention in the review is that you did in fact hook not just one, but two Tarpon during your charter. Considering you’ve fished for Tarpon before you know that just because you see Tarpon doesn’t mean they’re biting. I know, even without being on the boat myself that day, that Jason did everything possible while keeping safety in mind to try to get you a Tarpon. To rate your experience with Jason as a 1 star seems extremely harsh and unfair. Again, I’ll remind you in your initial email to us your EXACT words were “I will be the only one fishing and want to get tarpon, but won't be upset if we catch something else.” Followed by … “I like to fish tarpon where other people aren't and have my best luck in the gulf maybe a half mile off shore looking for pods of feeding tarpon. The only thing I don't like is chasing the migrating tarpon thru the pass following along with 100 other boats.” So per your initial request, Jason took you to spots that didn’t have 100 other boats, you hooked 2 tarpon, and then you turn around and give him a 1 star review?!?! I see this isn't the first time you've given a 1 star Trip Advisor review to a business. I would ask that before you go throwing out more 1 star reviews you please take a moment to consider how bad your experience truly was before you try to ruin someones reputation.
