The museum is small but interesting. It's housed in what was once the City Hall. The building was completed in 1927. The names of the offices, such as "mayor," are still plainly visible on some of the doors to the rooms off the main corridor. After its use as City Hall, the building served the city as an office building when a new city hall was constructed elsewhere. In 1983, the Historical Society took over the building from the City and refurbished it into a museum.

On display I saw a series of large black and white photos from bygone decades of pioneer women of Boca Raton. In one room I watched a video about Palm Beach society architect Addison Mizner and the Mizner era. Some of the furniture and other artifacts, that decades ago resided in the Mizner home, on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, were on display. Mizner was strongly influenced by Spanish architecture, and it was obviously reflected in his architectural works.

About four times a year, Town Hall Talks are held here at the museum. For instance, on January 21, 2015, there will be a talk entitled "Boca Raton's Eco-Treasures," by a county environmental analyst. And on April 15, 2015, the talk will be "Spain: The Forgotten Alliance, Independence of the United States," by a Smithsonian scholar.

The museum is open every day, except Sunday, starting at 10 AM. It's well worth a visit.

Am history and art buff. Loved this small Museum, filled with the 1920s style Spanish Colonial Revival furniture, beautiful with exhibits and video telling the story of Boca Raton, from its beginnings onward.

This historical former city hall building houses both a wonderful museum of local history and a guide for visitors. See Steve for maps of the area and for ideas. For $5, you can tour the former city offices which are now decked out with local historical objects. The collection of old IBM computers was especially cool. The 47- minute video explains how Boca came to be and explains some of the old architectural sights and building. A good first stop when visiting Boca.

"Boca Raton Historical Society & Museum", It's a Spanish looking building, sort of like a church. The grounds are well maintained. It's very clean with good facilities. The main display "Native Floridians: Seminole and Miccosukee". Their art and culture. Cost $5. I enjoyed myself.

I've lived in Boca Raton 19 years and I visited the BRHS & M the first time in April 2016.
Although, just a small building situated in the center of town, they had many displays chronicling the growth of this once sleepy town. The presentations and exhibits really brought the city to life to a past I wasn't very aware.
The small entrance fee was worth the price. It seemed the museum had more to display, but was limited by space. It would be nice if they could acquire a larger venue to house the many artifacts to be displayed all at once.

Charming building and interesting small museum. I usually shop in the Fire Station gift shop around the holidays and find items I want to give and always pick up my annual Garden Club ornament.

I volunteered for a while at the train museum in Boca Raton. The tours are wonderful & takes you back to the time when trains were the luxurious way to travel from up north to south Florida. the museum offers trolley tours around Boca Raton & you learn the history of our beautiful area. Exibits are inside the historical building, which is a delight to see. tours of the Boca Raton Resort & Hotel are also available. Come & learn the history & enjoy the shopping at Mizner Shopping Promanade.
