Nice Quaint Museum
May 2021
Nice museum, great museum shop. Loved the Glastress and Paul Gervais exhibits though due to Covid many of the glass installations are still in crates. The second floor has some fabulous art and Central/South American artifacts and pottery.

Back to the first floor, the "An Irresistible Urge to Create: The Monroe Family Collection of Florida Outsider Art" exhibit is questionable. Not sure I would call many of the pieces "museum worthy" but just my opinion.

Overall, a very nice visit and worth seeing.

Wonderful Saturday afternoon in Boca
May 2021
For a relatively small Museum this is an exciting collection in a marvelous airy space Specialties include European and American impressionism, African and Eastern sculpture, Glass and Contemporary fine art and sculpture. Always delightful "special shows". Look for pieces from the "ashcan " school. a wonderful Leger before cubism. Local and other young artists and an excellent garden sculpture area. If you are a Local, a membership is highly recommended. Lovely gift shop and pleasant volunteers to assist and advise. Located in Mizner park; The "Heart" of Boca Raton. Visit shops and restaurants for a full day in "downtown Boca>

"So Fine And Worthy of Praise"
Feb 2021
Recently,I returned to the Boca Raton Art Museum to enjoy 2 fine temporary art exhibits,"Glasstress Boca Raton 2021"and "Monroe Family Collection of Outsider Art".At the Outsider Art Exhibit,I saw paintings produced by self-taught painters which employed Naive Techniques.I was especially fascinated with the paintings of Jack Beverland("Noah's Ark",its style was somewhat reminiscent of Grandma Moses),Joey Smollen("New York City Subway"),Francis Moore,Frank Ritchie(snowy landscapes),and Ed Ott("African American Santa Claus").
At the "Glasstress Boca Raton 2021",I especially relished Wael Shawky's"Cabaret Crusade,Battle of Hattin 1187 AD"(a very detailed glass relief),Yin Xiuzhen's"Container of Thinking"(bookshelves and books made of glass),Tim Tate's"Pandemic Oculus"(a very punctilious glass creation dedicated to those that suffered and died, during the AIDS Pandemic),and Erwin Wurm's"Mutter"(a glass creation resembling enema containers),among others. Some of the Glass Creations were not on display, because the Corona Virus Pandemic prevented workers from assembling some of the works in the Boca Raton Art Museum.
From the permanent collection,I was elated to enjoy the following 20th Century American Paintings again;Ernest Lawson's"Tropical Moss",John Marin's"Sea and Boat",Al Held's"Mantegna's Edge"(a very Geometric Painting),and Lawrence Gipe's"Plan H,Robert Moses Project,Burning Up With Ideas".I also liked Kiki Smith's jacquard tapestry,"Underground very much.
Although this art museum is very limited in its range of Art,I still find my visits to the Boca Raton Art Museum to be very fruitful. There is plenty of free parking close to this art museum.

Okay art, great location, can park in the garage next door for free for up to 3 hours
Dec 2020
Okay art, great location, can park in the garage next door for free for up to 3 hours. Don’t walk the long way around up US 1 since you will need to walk all the way around and thru a grass field. Enter thru Mizner Park instead. 2 floors of mostly odd contemporary art but they do have a couple of nice pieces. Worth your time if you can see for free with the bank of america free weekends or a museum reciprocal pass.

Spectacular Local Art Museum
Jul 2020 • Couples
As members of the museum, we were invited to special early hours for members-only viewing. What a delight! The Boca Raton Museum of Art is always outstanding, with wonderful traveling exhibits to supplement their collection. But those members-only visits were like an oasis in this coronavirus desert.

Worthy of a major city
Dec 2019 • Couples
Quite a variety for a city like Bova Raton. The collection reminds me of a city much larger than Bova Raton. I don’t claim to be an art expert by any means but having been to many museums in larger cities, Boca Raton is impressive.

Welcome Back Boca Raton Art Museum
Jun 2020
The Boca Raton Art Museum is open again. It was closed for two and ahalf months, due to Covid 19. Yesterday,I saw two impressive temporary exhibits at the Boca Raton Art Museum.I saw "Self-Portraits from the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery".This exhibit had fine Self Portraits by leading American Painters of the 20th Century.Impressive oil paintings in this exhibit were Self Portraits of Thomas Hart Benton(with his wife,Rita),Alice Neel(older woman in the buff),Alexander Calder(famous for mobiles),Lee Simonson,Herman Maril(reading newspaper), Fritz Scholder(somewhat reminiscent of Francis Bacon),and Roger Shinomura(a whimsical self portrait as George Washington on the Deleware River). There were also fine Self Portraits at this exhibit employing photography by Irving Penn,Jacob Riis, and Ana Mendieta("Mirage").This exhibit ends on September 20,2020.
I also savored the fine temporary "In Exaltation of Flowers"which featured seven tall Art Nouveau Panels using gold leaf and egg tempera paint by Edward Steichen.Edward Steichen was a very prominent American Photographer. He also was an accomplished painter.Steichen was part of a group associated with Alfred Stieglitz,Georgia O'Keefe, and Isadora Duncan in the early 20th Century.I especially liked Steichen's panel painting,"Coleus Florence Meyer Poppy",as well as his"Gloxinia-Delphinum"(Isadora Duncan appears in this painting). This exhibit ends January 3,2021.
I also relished fine paintings by jacques Martin-Ferrieres("Gondolas in Venice"),Raoul Dufy,Larry Rivers,Massimo Campigli("2 Sisters"),and Emil Bisstram from their permanent collection.I also appreciated delightful creations by Charles McGill("Dilemma"-made of golf bags),Helene Brandt("Tower"),and George Segal("Woman in Black T Shirt")from their permanent collection.
Admission is currently free for the time being and there is plenty of free parking nearby.

Festival of the Arts at Boca Raton Museum of Art
Mar 2020
Every year, the Boca Raton Museum of Art hosts the Festival of the Arts Boca. For 2019, the event ran from February 28 - March 8. I usually try to attend at least one of the evenings. This year, I attended Post Modern Jukebox which was the finale on March 8th. The Amphitheater is a nice place to attend a live musical performance in March since the weather is usually very comfortable and the acoustics are usually good. For those of you who have never heard of Post Modern Jukebox, they are a band who became a Youtube sensation by taking current songs and giving them a 1920's sound. All the performers were excellent and they truly seemed to be having a great time performing live. But one song and vocalist stayed with me long after the show. Chloe Feoranzo was clearly the smallest of the female singers (she also did the woodwind instruments), but she could really give a song a torch feel with her big voice. Who would have ever thought Billy Idol's punk rock hit "Dancing With Myself" would sound so sultry in a 1920's torch song style performed by Chloe. Ironically, Ozzie Osborne's heavy metal hit "Crazy Train" also works well in a upbeat 1920's jazz style. If you have never attend the Festival, take a look at the line up for 2021 and consider it. My wife and I had a wonderful evening!

Imaginative and interesting
Feb 2020
The featured exhibits were excellent when we went this year. Phyllis Galembo's photographs of ritual African costume was generously displayed. The museum also has many very interesting pieces of African sculpture and masks. I was struck by the exhibit in a long hallway of roseate grocery bags lining the walls. The other striking exhibit were the Clifford Ross photographs of monstrous waves taken during a hurricane; Ross waded into the water to take these photos.
