The Calusa Beach is within the Bahia Honda State Park in BIg Pine Key. It is the other beach in addition to Sandspur beach, located on the other side of the park, with larger waves and still with some seagrass in the sand. It is being recovered after the Irma hurricane in 2017, but it is still beautiful. Worth seeing!…

This used to be an awesome place to go to before Irma. Gone are any SHADY picnic areas- so you will bake in the sun ! There are lots of rangers driving around in golf carts. It is a wasteland and threre is no urgency to restore this place for public. It is a disgrace. The bridge walk is strangely blocked off - so you cant see the old bridge from the top. It is so sad to see this resource tossed away. Also the old bridge is starting to disinegrate, slowly falling into the ocean. So sad.…

However it was still had grass, but not nearly as much as the rest of the State Park. If you know the truth and set your expectations, you can still enjoy it.

The beach is beautiful, and the changing rooms, bathroom stalls, parking lot and store are excellent to make your beach day as comfortable as it can be!

The entire beach, and roads and pull-offs to the beach, are closed since Irma. It's been two years already. If this were in Key West, Islamorda or Key Largo it would be fully open and accessible to the public. Shame on the County and State, as this beach was once one of the top ten beaches in the US!!!!…
