We stopped by on the way down to Key West and the place is rather small and gift/souvenir choices limited. However, Tina (I believe she's the owner) was outstanding in terms of her recommendations and assistance with directions. She gave us a map that we used for our entire trip as it was the easiest to use and marked with her suggestions. This is a very practical stop if it's your first time to the Keys. We received some 20 coupon cards for drinks, food, and rentals probably amounting to several hundred dollars of value

Tina even offered us her phone # in case we needed her during our vacation. As I said, outstanding! Thanks, Tina

Penny was exceptionally helpful. Gave my husband and I directions and advice on where to go and what time of day was best. Helped us book our all day water adventure and even gave us tips on how to make the most of it. Amazing stop, and great prices on the merch too!

We were traveling to Key West and decided to stop here for a bathroom break. Nothing more as most visitor centers are BS. But....Penny was awesome! She made recommendations and was very personable. We decided right away to skip one of dinners and do a sunset cruise in Key West. The process was very simple. When we had a small issue, I texted Penny and everything was resolved immoderately. Best experience with a visitor center!

Friendly staff and advise for parking in key west..not good to take big RV,s. They said to park at publics or Sears and take a cab 14.00 to downtown. There is a taxi stand by Sears.

If you are new to the Keys like we were, and need some guidance, stop here and talk to Kenny Stanley.
He has sound advice on where to stay, eat and things to do. Thank you, Kenny.

This visitor center was a real disappointment.
I found it to be more of a tourist trap than a visitor center.
The staff only had time to speak to people who were interested in booking hotel accommodations or tours through them.
Given that we were there in the low season of mid December, when there were almost no tourists in the center, I found this very odd.
If you need information about Key West, stop off at either the visitor center in Key Largo or at the one in Key West itself. The visitor center in Key West has excellent street maps available for free, coupon books and the woman at the desk is extremely helpful.
I should mention that the other visitor center in Big Pine Key, the one manned by rangers and giving information about the Key Deer Refuge, is well worth the visit. It is in the same area and they will provide maps and information about activities. There is also a nice clean bathroom there.

Kelly Anne is an amazing representative of The Keys- lovely, friendly and helpful. She answered many questions even though I didn't plan on getting any overnight accommodations assistance. I did end up asking her for advice on lodging and receiving her help in acquiring a beautiful room at a discount rate in Key West.
I'll never forget this woman or our trip to the Keys.

Just a tip. Call into the visitor centre before you do anything else.

They will give you a tear off map, let you know what activities are going on.

They will book your activities for you at no charge.

BE SURE TO ASK for the little cards they can give you offering 2for 1 drinks, free bottles of wine and other offers in the bars and restaurants will save you a fortune.

Looks like zero improvement since the February 2010 review, it may be even worse now. We called in the afternoon and were told they were open until 7:30. We got there at 5:45 and were welcomed with - actually not even a hint of welcome - but rather, an uninviting, cold comment about "closing in a few minutes", well ahead of schedule. We're pretty cheerful all the time, and we were cheerful in the face of this rudeness. We presented a coupon, which turned out to be come-on, run-around, deceptive advertising - one of those 'bring in a coupon to get another coupon to drive somewhere else to use the coupon maybe" deals. More than one rude comment from the staff member about that. We three were the only customers in the store. There were three employees there; one who actually seemed to relish the status of rude proprietor, the other two were icy cold, not a word out of them. All three were sitting behind computers. Seriously bad attitudes, bad service, bad place, mean & surly vibes here - avoid it until some reviews come in reporting happy helpful service. There are many other ways & places to find value & cheerful suggestions among these wonderful keys!
