Urban Oasis but changing.

This is my second favorite park in the city. This park has been my jogging track, my dog walking center, my farmers market gem in recent years and a family gathering place growing up. Regrettably I am old enough to remember the old layout with the playground over by the fountain and way more trees on the lower half and the sprinkler system for people to cool off, and I recall the resevoir before the re-do and when you could see the water and just grass and stone. My review comes with a history but I love the upper section re-do and the wetland that was established on top of the resevoir. Early morning and dusk you can hear frogs very loudly as they look for mates. The lower half is where the most work is needed. It could be as beautiful and tranquil as the top half, as of this review it is not. Look, I remember when that fountain worked and was a gathering place. I remember a dense forest of trees that provided a cool oasis in summertime days. The fountain needs to be given new life there. More trees should be planted to fill in large gaps. When they updated the park, they removed trees and people always think that it makes things better. It just looks like landscaping. My second issue is the homeless have also decided the lower half of the park is a great place to sleep and live. Not unusual to see people doing that morning, noon, night. Sorry to rain on the parade but its happening there and when you have vacant houses laying waste you will have the vagrancy so the area needs to address that. If the plan is to keep people away, then by all means, let the homeless take over. The park has a nice open section where kids of all ages can play, picnic, etc., and the playground is nice although it would be nice to see the sprinklers reinstated too. Never understood why those were removed Kids would love it on a hot day and quite a few other parks have them. This park I feel has the most charm of any city park, yet has some challenges that will need to be dealt with if it is to overcome and be truly spectacular. Right now, I can only give Average.

I grew up in this park. I have been going crazy trying to find the pictures that were published in the Morning News/New Journal in the 70s. Several times as a kids photographers took pictures of me and my sister/friends playing there swinging on the swings or playing in the Sprinklers. It had to be in the years of 1974-1978/79. When it was safe for a kid to play in the park. I sure wish I could find those pictures/articles.

A lovely small park in the heart of the residential part of the city
Jul 2018 • Couples
This park is split into two parts... the upper park with is gated. It has a lovely water feature where you can see all sorts of wildlife inside the heart of the city. It also has a field surrounded by a wild grass feature that contains all sorts of wildlife. There is also a lower park. This is where you will find the Thursday evening farmer's market... a lovely little gem. The park can have it's problems given where it is located within the city... but day time it is a wonderful place for a picnic or to bring your children to ride their bikes and see the beautiful pond.

Small, Charming and Social...

I'm biased! This small neighborhood park is so quiet and quaint, you don't realize that you're only a block from I-95. The upper level houses a well-designed park & pond that breathes life into the area. It is monitored, fenced and very well maintained. This area pulses with the activities of local/neighborhood yoga groups, walkers, joggers, pet enthusiast, youth activities and more. The lower portion of the park lends itself to activities geared children (swings, slides, and other park-like toys). Through the summer, the park host a weekly farmer's market from starting at 4pm: food, produce, snacks and musical performances by local performers. Although parking is limited, it's rare that you'll experience a challenge finding parking but, be mindful of the neighborhood parking restrictions to avoid any heartache. And, if you're looking for a good safe place to exercise (1 lap around the upper-level park is approximately .4 miles) or walk the pooch (remember to clean up after Fido)...come and walk the park. Be aware, the neighborhood is friendy, say hello!

Nice neighborhood park

Ideally, visit on Thursday evenings for the farmer's market when they usually have live music and a few food trucks.

This is a nice place to walk your dogs and do exercise in the morning, especially the upper part of the park. It is gated at dusk and reopens in the early morning.

Beautiful park, not so great area

This park is quite lovely. Except the fact the fact that the area has gone downhill. I used to work at a dentist office on N. Franklin and would love to have lunch here. Now I wouldn't go there alone.

Cool Spring Park has been restored to look like it is right out of the 1890's. The water feature on the upper park is a calming place to walk. The lower park now has excellent lighting in the evenings. Depending on how far you want to walk, you can do the inner or outer loop around the upper reservoir.
