The DuPont Environmental Education Center is located at the 212-acre Russell W. Peterson Urban Wildlife Refuge in Wilmington, where the city, river and marsh meet. The center opened in 2009 and has quickly become a favorite family attraction, thanks to interactive exhibits, free admission and numerous free programs, such as daily nature walks. It is owned by the Riverfront Development Corp. of Delaware and operated by Delaware Nature Society.

My wife and I took my grandchildren to the DuPont Environmental Education Center to get closer to nature. Our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful in discussing the flora and fauna of the area. The kids really enjoyed themselves and this old dog learned some new things also.

A beautiful place to run convenient to my hotel. The weather was very mild for late October and my two visits were very enjoyable.

This nature center is Wilmington treasure. A modern, four-floor observation facility that overlooks a boardwalk though the marsh, as well as the Christina River. The Center is located at one of the beautiful Wilmington Riverwalk close to several waterfront restaurants a minor league baseball park, the DE Children's Museum, and Center for Contemporary Art. Self-guided tours are free and they... More

This is at the end of the Wilmington Riverfront walk. It is really interesting how they have incorporated the walks and landscapes into the overall experience. Take the pedestrian bridge (wheel chair friendly) over the train track (maybe you'll see a train passing under) over to the center. It's a multi level building with teaching facilities. As you pass through,... More

The duPont Environmental Center is located at the end of the revitalized Christina River Waterfront area. An elevated walkway leads into an education building with a fine observation point overlooking the Christina River and a newly built swamp pond where many types of birds congregate along with water-loving small animals. A water level boardwalk allows visitors to get up close... More

This place has lots of history and it is well worth going and see what we can do for the environment. I would recommend the visit if you are visiting Wilmington.

This is a hidden treasure in Wilmington. An elevated boardwalk leads around a small pond. Relatively peaceful ... although there is a constant background highway noise. Plenty of birds to see and adjacent to the Christina River. It hooks up to the Riverwalk area so you can walk down to a restaurant if you'd like.
