You’ll only be minutes away from downtown Wilmington, but you’ll feel like you are in another part of the world here at Nemours Estate. The 47,000-square-foot home, referred to as the “grandest house in Delaware” is pure French in design, with 77 rooms and fabulous gardens. Photographers will want to take their cameras as there is so much to capture,... More

visited in october of 2015, the fountains were already winterized...we are going back spring 2017 to see spring blooms and water in the fountains. the mansion is wonderful, I love antiques. we had a tour guide for the house, I see from reviews the visitors are on their own, but docents are available. this is an American version of European... I visited in December, so was unable to tour the gardens; I plan to return next spring to see them. The house is incredible, and was lived in up until the early 70s. There are many original features, which make the house a must-see. However, all tours are self-guided; if you happen to spot one of the guides, you get... More

If you like to see how the other half (used to) live, this is good for you. Lots of old-timey furniture and fixtures. Interesting place. Lots of room to walk and lovely grounds.

Nemours is the mansion that was home to Alfred I. du Pont in the last decades of his life. The grounds of the estate are shared with the hospital for children that he and his wife created, one of the best such hospitals in the United States. The gardens are extensive and deserve a visit throughout the year, weather permitting.... More

Nemours Mansion & Gardens is absolutely a must see. Unfortunately, as may other have written their new director decided to stop the guided tours. I still enjoyed my visit and was fortunate to have visited when there were guided tours and was able to remember some of the interesting facts. The tour guides were so informative and it the whole... A great museum and display. Beautiful grounds and amazing house - wonderfully decorated for the holidays. First time back since the transition to open house verses guided tours. Seems like a better solution and many docents around to answer any question.

In the past when we toured Nemours, it was very special. They used to have a magnificent guided tour and no children running about. The problem was that it used to require reservations and we have been turned away in the past. This time was not as good. This is just not an interesting place for young children with energy... We appreciate your input and are pleased that you paid us a return visit- we hope others follow your example! We take our cue from Alfred I. du Pont himself, who delighted in having children - his own and others - visit Nemours. And take him at his word when he states in his Will (1931), that he wanted his... More
