For for a day trip from Edmonton and stopped by the Gopher Museum. It was busy, there was a line up outside as there is not a lot of wiggle room inside. Enjoyed the displays lots of attention to detail and some were quite funny. The greeter was very informative. After the museum went on the Gopher fire hydrant hunt. Great stop on a sunny day in Alberta.

We visited this small museum in Torrington. A friendly lady greeted us and gave us a bit of the history of the place.
We walked around looking at the little displays with a smile on our faces. What a unique place.
There is a small gift shop and a clean washroom was available.
There is also a local walk to look at the themed fire hydrants.
Worth visiting if you are in the area.

Definitely, something to stop in at least once and view. The creativity and attention to detail stand out but some displays also show a good dose of humour. Friendly staff and a nice little town.

Went for a Sunday drive from Calgary to school this out and not disappointed. It is very small and can be completed in about 10 mins, has a cute little gift shop as well and washrooms. I WS shocked to see the world map with how many pins were on it from all over the world!!! A little feed bonus is the walking tour u can do with a map of all the painted fire hydrants. Worth a visit.

We saw it on Heartland and loved it from from afar. Where else would you find a testimonial to industrious gophers. Next time in Alberta our visit won’t be virtual. In the age of COVID I am over living virtually.

This was on my brother-in-laws bucket list to visit here, a sunny day with nothing to do we decided a motorcycle ride here was in order to fullfill his wish hahaha. It's a fun place and would be a great place for little kids

While Albertans often comment on the annoyances of gophers (aka Richardson Ground Squirrels) in their fields or dodging cars on the highway (not often successfully), I am still baffled as to who would come up with the idea of stuffing dead ones and and putting clothes on them. This museum features 47 different scenes with gophers depicting them in different snapshots of life around Torrington, Alberta. There are even rare white and black gophers. You can also try on a huge mascot like gopher head for pictures.

Be sure to ask in the gift shop about the tour of the town's painted fire hydrants, each painted like a different gopher to tell a story. Torrington itself is a great glimpse into life in small town Alberta and still has building that houses the fire department, bank, and post office in one building.

If you are sensitive to the plight of animals, it might not be a good place to go, but if you're on a road trip in Alberta want to get off the beaten track and had a bizarre sense of humor, I'd highly reccomend going.

I thought it was amazing seeing stuffed gophers and the speech bubbles on top made the experience perfect. 😆

Not far of the main highway and the side road was still 100 kph and very quiet. The museum was much smaller than we expected but it was still a lot of fun. The kids loved looking at all the displays and the cute outfits the gophers were wearing. It was raining so we didn't do anything outside so it was a quick twenty minute visit at most. Very unique place.

Checked out the museum on the way to Drumheller and enjoyed every minute. This little town is filled with gophers from the painted fire hydrants to the larger than life size paintings and statues. The highlight of the visit of course was the Gopher Hole Museum. Upon entering we were greeted by a very friendly host who explained the museum and its history. We were encouraged to turn off the lights to get the full immersive effect of being in an actual gopher hole. The dioramas of stuffed gophers were very well put together. Some depict places and scenes in the town and others are a bit more "creative" (a prehistoric scene comes to mind). Our host also suggested that we try on the gopher masks, which of course we did. Our quick visit ended with a stop in the gift shop which contains crafts and items made in the community. A great short stop-over and one of the best ways to spend $2.
