The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. It wasn't overly crowded and the event was enjoyable. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to return again during the daytime to actually enjoy the park. Here there is a walking path along the water in addition to lots of grassy space, a pier at the wharf and a small kids playground. There was a tennis court behind the park as well. There was plenty of FREE parking to be found so that was a plus. Kids enjoyed watching the squirrels in the park and the birds over the water. However, the beachy areas are rocky, smelly and dirty. We saw several dead fish along the waters edge. Overall, we enjoyed our visits with Battery Park. It is a nice place to take a stroll, have a picnic in the park and venture into the adjacent historic district (for some ice cream and history).Visited June 2021Written September 24, 2021
- worktotravel14Trenton, New Jersey2,214 contributionsPeaceful walk by the salty seaThis is a beautiful walk close to New Castle's historic district. Stopped in New Castle for a leg rest mid-way through a drive not knowing quite what I'd find besides the history of the first state. This is a perfect walk, nicely paved and maintained, just on the water. You can smell the salty air or walk a little further and find shade tree-lined clearings. Even though it is fairly busy, there are moments where you can be all to yourself and it is simply peaceful. Walked for about an hour, then headed to see the rest of the town.Visited July 2022Traveled soloWritten November 6, 2022

A nice stroll along the water and plenty of photo ops if you enjoy taking pictures. It was brisk and windy on our October visit. We found it at the foot of town that we had decided to walk through and enjoy the Federalist Architecture. Recommended.Visited October 2021Written October 18, 2021

It's a clean area for a fun picnic and just enjoy the scenery. On a hot day the breeze here feels good.

My family and I were walking around the park after lunch and happened to see the historic boat Kalmar Nyckel on the water. It was really beautiful and interesting to see, even though we didn't buy tickets to actually take a ride.

I'm interested in having a wedding ceremony at the park. How do I go about finding information on how to reserve? Or is it just a first come first serve area?
Information appreciated.

I'm not sure about how to reserve for a wedding. I would suggest trying to look it up under city of New Castle , DE .
Hi Missy - would a 10 yr old enjoy this park? Do they have restrooms ? Thanks

There are restrooms. There is also a park area with swings, sliding boards. There's a large open , grassy area for picnics. Some picnic tables. You can often see large tanker ships along the water.
Can you grill without reserve

I never have seen anyone grilling, so I don't think so, I have see big picnics but no open fires.
Can you still go paddle boating at battery park?

I'm not sure about that either. There is a small sail boat area. I usually go there to take my grandchildren to the park or take walks.
