About
Dreamer, Captain David Green, opened Cape Water Tours, originally named Cape Water Taxi, in 2012 as a water taxi service, and has transformed it into primarily a boat tour company seeking to share the natural beauty of southern Delaware’s breathtaking shorelines, lush grassy marshlands, and fascinating ecology & wildlife with locals and visitors of the Delaware beaches. Our family operated company provides public tours and cruises, private charters and limited water taxi service. With about 20 different PUBLIC TOURS AND CRUISES to offer, curious minds can book one of our narrated, educational tours or simply take in a sunset, experience the thrill of seeing dolphins in their natural habitat, or listen to local musicians share their gift of song on a Live Music Cruise. Our PRIVATE CHARTERS can accommodate groups of up to 50 passengers on the Escape and up to 100 people on the Second Nature and can be customized to serve your needs and celebrations. We reserved seats on the Cape Water Tours and Taxi trip on June 12, 2020. The tickets prices were very reasonable and they have a military discount. The boats are large enough to maintain social distancing while on board. The boat also had a restroom. Our tour was a little longer than 1 1/2. The Captain and First mate of the boat were very nice and courteous. The tour started with the sun up and ended after the sun went down. It was perfect for sunset pictures. They drove us to 2 lighthouses where we got marvelous pictures. We also seen dolphins on the way out and in. The Captain slowed and stopped the boat so everyone on board had a chance to get photos or videos. My husband and I would recommend this touring company to anyone visiting the area. It was calm, peaceful and breathtaking.

Having taken our nephews on the fabulous Eco Tour last summer, we returned yesterday for the Ultimate Eco Tour - a delightful and educational adventure for youngsters and parents alike.
With great Covid-19 precautions (social distancing aboard the boat, masks required while embarking and disembarking), we immediately felt that we were in good hands as we boarded with the assistance of Captain Dave and crew member Julie.
Once under way, naturalist Kathleen did a great job of explaining the ecosystem through which we were cruising, and pointing out shore birds along the way. The real highlight was when the crew netted in a collection of fish, crabs, whelks and even a skate. Kathleen described each creature and carried them around the boat so every passenger could see them up close before they were returned to the water. Aside from sharing her knowledge, Kathleen did a great job answering questions from kids and adults a like.
If you're looking for an enjoyable two hours on the water coupled with learning about the complex ecosystem that makes the Cape Henlopen region so special, the Ultimate Eco Tour is definitely worth your time!

What a fun and informative tour this is! The East End Lighthouse (named for being on the East end of a massive rock breakwater) is over one hundred years old and through Cape Water Taxi’s tour, my grandkids and I were able to enter and explore every floor inside the lighthouse. There is information on the walls of every room explaining how each area was used when it was a working lighthouse. Julie, the very competent and friendly tour guide provided lots of information going to and from the lighthouse and was on hand inside to answer any questions we had. There was even a pod of dolphins spotted on the way back to the dock. I totally recommend this tour for families looking for a fun unusual experience they will remember long after the vacation is over.

I booked this cruise as a birthday gift during a vacation we took to Rehoboth Beach, DE. I found it on a website geared towards things to do in the area. I am glad I booked it. It was my first boating experience in the ocean. I have to say I was nervous up until I got on the boat and met the crew. All of them were very friendly and have a ton of experience. The captain was awesome - very funny and kept us entertained the entire cruise. I chose the evening cruise in the Delaware/Rehoboth Bay, but they had a lot of options on their website for specialty tours and times. We took the cruise as a couple, but definitely a good experience for families and friends. They could accommodate children and dogs as long as they aren't big. Our Boston Terrier enjoyed seeing birds on the ocean! Overall one of the best parts of our vacation!

We took our 15 year old and 4 year old daughters on the dolphin tour in Lewes! It was a great time for both kids and we saw lots of dolphins! It was so great to have an activity both my girls enjoyed given the age difference. Tables were far apart and most people wore masks the entire time. We felt very safe taking this cruise during COVID.

We had a great evening cruise, gorgeous weather and sunset, and we paused out by the lighthouse and were treated to a show by local dolphin. This was a music cruise, decent performance by a former member of Bad Company doing familiar tunes from a variety of artists. Very appropriately social distancing and sanitation on board, BYOB and food.

The cruise was very nice and good value.
We were shocked and disappointed with the Covid-19 guidelines and the double standard of the first mate. As we boarded the boat, were told to wear a mask. We were the second couple on board and every one (only 20-24 passengers) wore a mask except one fellow. He was never reminded to wear the mask so was free to board without one. Right before departure, the first mate, Mike, made his
speech about bathrooms, hands inside, etc., and, of course, the speech about masks. He stated that you can remove your mask when you are seated but if you have to use the restroom, take a photo, etc., you must wear your mask and to be courteous to everyone else. The same fellow who
boarded without a mask never put one on when in the aisle. The shocker was that Mike did NOT have his on from time to time while talking to everyone when he was standing in the aisle!!! So, a complete contradiction of his speech!! Not only was one passenger allowed to not wear his mask at any time, then the first mate totally contradicts what he is asking passengers to do!! Couldn't believe it.
We have taken several Cape Water tours over the years but were beyond disappointed this time.

In response to this review we have addressed the issue with our crew members. To our Amazing Crew! This has been a summer to remember-for everyone. As our 2020 season is winding down, we want to thank you for your hard work under difficult circumstances....the extra cleaning and sanitizing, wearing masks outside when it was 100 degrees, the gentle way you rebuke guests when they forget to wear a mask, the way you always go the extra mile to make people feel safe and welcome, learning to use a seating chart and assigned seating to allow for social distancing, and working under Covid restrictions which limits the number of passengers onboard, which also means working for less tips. You are so much more that crew members, you are friends. We are blessed to have all of you in our lives. With all of that said, it was brought to our attention by a recent guest that our safety protocols concerning masks were lax on one of our evening cruises. We completely understand that wearing a mask is unnatural and is not second nature and that we all forget sometimes. We just want to reemphasize the importance of following the CDC and State of Delaware guidelines. It is evidenced by the overwhelming number of positive reviews, phone calls and emails from our guests all season long that you have all taken these protocols seriously and have enforced them responsibly and kindly. Many guests have commented that they felt safe and were truly able to “Leave their worries at the dock.” There is no way we could do what we do without you. We would not be Cape Water Tours without each of you. With Gratitude, Dave and Michelle For anyone reading this: If you cruise with us and ever have a concern that needs to be addressed please call or email us directly so we can connect with you and resolve the issue right away instead of reading about it on Trip Advisor a week after the occurrence, especially if there is a safety concern as was the case here.

When I signed my wife up for this boat ride, we had no idea that we would have the opportunity to actually go inside the lighthouse. We’ve been in many lighthouses, but this one was certainly unlike any other. The ONLY way a member of the general public is permitted into the lighthouse is through Cape Water Tours!!
The trip was enhanced by excellent and interesting narration by the Captain.
It was a great experience and which I highly recommend.

Our three generation family group thoroughly enjoyed the boat trip in the canal. We were able to see and learn about some of the birds and small animals that live in this environment. The narrator was able to capture the attention and interest of the whole family. The six year old was able to see and even touch some of the animals. The tour operators made sure that the passengers were appropriately socially distanced and wore masks when needed.

We did the east end lighthouse tour at 2pm on Saturday,July 3rd. We were originally scheduled for 2pm on Friday however due to storms they graciously moved us to Saturday. The captain and his daughter were very informative about the lighthouse and the area. The lighthouse was beautiful and it actual rained for a short period of time when we arrived at the the top landing of the lighthouse. I also enjoyed the humor of the captain. We will be back.
