Delmarva Peninsula has a rich maritime history. The Lightship Overfalls is a wonderful addition to that tradition. This National Historic Landmark represents one of the few remaining lightships and one of the very few that can be toured. If you are a lighthouse fan, lightships may be the one type of coastal warning system you have not seen. The ship... More

Our guide, Ray, was very informative and helpful. He knew his stuff. The tour of the ship was thorough and kept the attention of our two children ages 9 and 14. I would recommend a visit if you are in the area. From the deck to the engine room, we had a great time. The kids even got a chance... More

We really enjoyed our tour of the lightship and learned a great deal since we really weren't familiar with the duties of these ships back in the day along with the commitment and the dangers those sailors faced. Our tour guides were very knowledgeable and fun and we will definitely take guests back as something to do and see in... More

To learn of the maritime history of one of the last remaining lightships, a tour of the Overfalls is highly recommended. Located adjacent to Lewes Canalfront Park, the ship is berthed on the Rehoboth and Lewes Canal and offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. Docents with the Foundation will give you a guided tour of both the exterior and... More

Lovely in-town park along the canal. We came here at dusk one evening and fished in the canal for a couple of hours, catching a sand shark and some croakers. There was bioluminescence in the canal. It was quiet and lovely. The park was immaculate and well-lit; the lightship was beautifully and respectfully presented. There was a great blue heron... More

This ship is a fantastic free visit. Locals decided to refurbish it and ask for a $5 donation. This light ship was used for guiding ships at sea when light houses were not available. They operated for over 150 years through the beginning of WWII. guide was a local and very knowledgeable. A must see in Lewes.

The Lightship Overfalls is a fascinating ship that should not be missed. Also interesting is the small museum located in the ticket office.

The lightship over is docked close to the hotel in which we stayed.,The Inn at Canal Square. my seven-year-old grand twins enjoyed seeing the crews quarters and the kitchen (galley)and just being on a big boat generally. I was really interested by the history and use of such boats. It was a quick, (20-30 minutes) and interesting our for almost... More
