Growing up in Delaware you don't get to do much but when Spence's bazaar is open thats where I normally like to go just for the atmosphere.

Outside it can be a 50/50 trip since some people go for the buying of items that have deals (hats, shirts, jackets cards and even furniture) while others are there for locally grown vegetables. Sometimes its crowded but other times noone is outside or walking around. It looks empty at times.

Once you step inside of the building however it gets very BUSY. It's a farmers market after all. Everyone wants homemade foods made by the Amish and even local places. My favorite thing is the Cinnamon buns. It's like a perfect in-between of C.Bun and a honeybun, sticky and sweet with just enough glaze over the top.

Another good thing is the porkchop sandwiches. I remember going there with my grandmother to share one every weekend. A beautifully crusted outside, a juicy inside that melts in your mouth. But if thats not your cup of water they do sell a lot of cheesecake as well. =)

Just remember its only open three days a week.

If you like LARGE fleamarkets with indoor and outdoor vendors this is the place for you. Worried about covid? Wear a mask. Large groups of people very close together. A huge selection of items including local produce and an Amish market.

We were told about this place from one of the local people and it was great. We walked through the market and had many choices of food to choose from. There were also a lot of specialty shops to but things. Everyone can find something to eat here. There is plenty of parking space and room to sit and eat.

The flea market was nice, some really nice glassware and friendly vendors, but the market was a little disappointing, not a real good choice of typical Amish market items. I may have been a little early in the season. I'm glad I visited as I had the time, but if you had another destination in mind, do that one first.

Since I live right in this town, I probably go to Spence's at least twice a month. It is true that they do have a lot of never changing vendors that I also see when going to flea markets in New Castle County on other days, but you can often find just regular people selling their treasures.

I get most of my plants for my gardens here. The Amish families have outdoor tables where they have brought plants from their gardens to sell, and they are priced very competitively, plus you can find plants here that you usually will not see at the local garden centers. I ended up getting a tray of large geraniums for $12, that was 16 large geraniums in the tray, a very good price.

This is also a pretty good place to find some cheap (used) cd's, dvd's or videos. Last week I ended up finding 6 cd's I had been looking for a long time, and at $2 each, they were a bargain. If you are looking for old vhs tapes, they can be had sometimes for as little as 3 for $1.00.

My friend came with me last week and found a cute fireman ceramic cookie jar, for which she paid $4.00, and was well pleased with the price.

There is one building that sells food, everything from cheeses (which you can sample) to candies, to an Amish Bakery, and meats. The apple dumpling from the bakery is delicious. The meat section also has prepared meats to take away, such as a rotisserie chicken, a bit pricey but a very tasty chicken. They also offer bbq'd ribs to go. The meat area has all sorts of interesting sausages to sell, and other beef and pork items, at not much more than you would pay at a local supermarket.

One of the vendors was selling cell phone products. My husband needed a new case for his blackberry and our phone carrier was selling it for $18. We found the same thing here for $8.00.

This is not a large market, it won't take you but an hour or so, depending on how much you like to take your time walking around, but you can sometimes find some interesting things here. Guys take note, there are all sorts of tools, used and new, to be found here.

We have been going to Spence's Bazaar for years now. We try to stop in IF we happen to be in town when they are open. They are only open a few days a week: Tues-Fri and I believe they are now open on Saturday too. They have a small outdoor flea market where you can find junk, dollar store items, antiques, produce and just about anything in between. It is like a big yard sale. Today we saw lots of fresh local strawberries in addition to tomatoes and asparagus. It is nice to get some fresh local produce. Inside there are antiques, furniture, books and more. There is also a barber shop for men on location (open everyday except Wednesday). In the second building there is an Amish market where you can buy meats, baked goods, prepared foods and more. They used to hold auctions here too, but I'm not sure IF they still do that or not.

Overall, we have enjoyed our visits with Spence's. It is not the largest "flea market", but it is decent. I especially enjoy the Amish section and the flea market stands. You never know what you are going to find.

There is something for everyone at Spence's: a vast array of authentic Amish food, quality used furniture, outdoor electronics market, the "spice guy" vendor. But Spence's fulfills more than just material needs. The open-table market also possesses a philosophical dimension - it is an island of hometown authenticity in the midst of the crowded and anonymous east-coast trend of ex-urbanization. A Kent County institution that this relocated reviewer misses very much.

This is like a flea market/auction. The best part is the building with all kinds of food. The Amish meat area smells so good. I work over a block away and can smell the delectable aromas from work. They have rotiserie chicken(love gettign this to take home for dinner and i dont know what seasoning they use but if you boil the leftovers you dont need to add extra spices to make a wonderful chicken noodle soup), ribs, ham ( my favorite for lunch is the ham and cheese sandwich) thier is a turkey stand that has all kinds of turkey, coleslaw, potato salad, strawberry cheese desert that is yummy, There is a cheese and pickle stand, they have home made dips, the strawberry fruit dip is so good on all kinds of fruit. there is a candy shop and a bakery. If you are looking for delicous cakes, fresh breads or pies this is the place to go. try the strawberry cheesecake. they also have alot of different stands to buy new items like clothes, sneakers, the softest blanket i have ever seen. then other poeple can have a yard sale too.
