This calm, quiet, nature center is a great way to get out and enjoy nature, especially since this center is dedicated to fostering the appreciation of the outdoors. They have a wide variety of educational activities (although you should check the calendar, in case they change things due to COVID): they have trail hikes, photography sessions, beekeeping, and an assortment of children's activities. This is a wonderful place to connect to the outdoors and to learn something interesting at the same time.

Flanders nature center a well-known spot for its beautiful and serene park like property is nestled in the Litchfield Hills of Woodbury Connecticut. Flanders has numerous programs for children which I definitely outside the box and allow kids to really get in touch with nature and them selves. Flanders nature center is definitely a place to take your children at some point in their life.

The primary founder was an artist turned farmer, who gave the property as a Land Trust for public use. Lectures, workshops, guided hikes. There are several distinct sites. At the farm there is a varied network of trails through fields and forest, and along ponds with birding sites. One could walk for a few hours without very much retracing of steps in the same direction.

I just blew $80 on a MLK Day program for my two grandchildren (ages 5 and 10) today at Flanders Nature Center. The program was advertised to include wildlife tracking, stories, games and crafts, appropriate to the various age groups. In fact, the program included very little of the above. The moderator was unmotivated, uninspired, and uninspiring. The children were so bored that they bonded together to organise their own activities, in this case, a puppet show. We could have gotten more out of the morning by staying at home.

One of my favorite hiking places to go to in any season. There are many trails and difficulty levels to choose from. The longest trail is 3.5 miles or so to less than 1/2 mile. There is so much peace and beauty walking through the woods... there are several small rivers in this area as well. The trails are well marked and there is a map of all trails available in the parking lot to take with you as you hike. Wear sturdy shoes!
