Testament to the History of Winsted
Apr 2017 • Couples
This monument is not just a memorial to the Military but to the days when Winsted was a thriving and economically comfortable city,. There really isn;t much to see in the town besides this and the American Museum of Torts. Residents are trying to make the town more attractive to visitors. The town seems to have potential...I hopethey succed in achievingit.

Yes. Our monument is a wonderful testament to the history of the town. But I would also encourage you to visit the wonderful Winchester Historical Society-they are open on Saturday and Sunday (check for hours) , as well as Whiting Mills, an artist colony situated in an historic mill building. And next year, the American Mural Project should be opening to the public. History is everywhere you look in this town, and we are making history right now! Thank you.

Thank you for your kind words. If you think it is lovely now, wait until this summer when our garden is in full bloom!

An important piece of local history.

You may visit this park-like setting any time of year and admire it. However the best times to visit are when the all volunteer committee that acts as caretaker opens the interior to the public. Much Civil War history may be seen inside, as well as an excellent view. During the Summer months of 2016 there were concerts and other public events frequently held here. Well worth a side trip for an hour or two.

A Fine Historical Monument
Jun 2016 • Couples
This monument is located in a small park on top of a hill. It is open erratically so check ahead by calling the town clerk's office. It has been renovated. Worth a visit!
