Highly recommend fishing with Randy and his team. He's very professional but at the same time he makes you feel like he's a fishing buddy. He emailed me the directions for how to get to him. $10 and maybe 10 min taxi ride. He was there waiting for us. We spent several hours fishing. At one point, I'm pretty sure the fish were standing in line waiting on my son to drop his hook. Fish on every cast. If the bites slowed down Randy would move us to another spot. He had two other boats working that day and one of those lady's caught a sheepshead fish. Randy had a cooler full of waters and Gatorade for us. After fishing for several hours, Gary ( co- captain/ deckhand) cleaned our fish for us then Randy took us to a restaurant that cooked our fish for us. The restaurant was right across the street from the bus stop that takes ya back to the ship. At the restaurant we had Carne Asada tacos, our fish, all the fixing and salsa and dips and four cokes..more food than the two of us could eat and our total was only $23 and the food was amazing. We walked across the street afterwards and shopped the street market area and went to see about the bus ( it was full) but our same taxi driver was there in his car and as soon as he saw us he got out and opened his door for us. Im sure he knew about what time we'd be coming through and he waited for us. It was truly a perfect day. Whether you all want to fish or not, I highly recommend going with Randy and Gary. They took care of us perfectly. Everything was exactly what he said it would be and while he doesn't "guarantee" fish, there will be plenty of fish. He knows what he's doing. That day was the most relaxing and exciting day ever! I was a 51 yr old woman, with my son in a foreign country and not once did I feel unsafe. My son loved the day so much that once back in the US he googled hotels in Progreso. He's ready to fly out and fish with Randy some more.
Thank you Randy and Gary for your excellent hospitality

We have been to Progreso several times on cruises, and this time we decided to try something a little different. We wanted to do something completely different than the typical shore excursions the cruises offered and we found out about Yucatan Snook and decided to try it out. They provided great instructions on how to get to them, and we took a taxi from the Cruise pier to the AutoProgreso Bus Station in Progreso. Randy was their waiting for us with a sign with our name on it and he greeted us right away. We jumped into his van, which was clearly labeled with Yucatan Snook, and was modern and safe (and had AC too!). After a short drive, we arrived at the marina. It was neet to see other parts of Progreso as well. We jumped out of the van and right into our boat and out on the water we went. The boats were nice flat bottom and stable, easy to fish from, and it was just the four of us, our guide, and a helper. They also supplied plenty of ice cold water and gatorade for the entire day.
We tried several spots and had some difficulty landing fish, but that seems to be our luck anywhere we go :-). We did land a few, enough for a good lunch. Even though the fishing was a bit slow that day, Randy did a great job making sure we had a good time. We tried multiple spots, and it was great to be out in the lagoons fishing all by ourselves... such a breath of fresh air from the typical cruise excursion!
We fished several hours, and then returned to the marina, where they cleaned and bagged the fish for us. Randy then drove us to a restaurant right by the cruise ship shuttle that cooked our fish and we had a nice lunch (they also had free wifi). He made sure we had a great time and we would definitely do this again. We definitely felt safe and comfortable the entire time.
Some tips: bring plenty of sunscreen or cover up so you don't burn. This is a fishing trip and you will fish the entire time, and you are out in the sun. They provided everything we needed to fish, and the gear was great. They provided instructions and tips on fishing for those who need it. You don't have to bring anything other than sunscreen and a good attitude and you will have a blast.

If you want to go fishing. I mean really go fishing. And your on the Yucatan peninsula. You should get hold of Yucatan Snook. The whole experience is top notch. A friend and I recently went to Progresso to see what the hub bub was all about and we’re blown away by the ease and skill of the operator who took us to where the fish were and talked us through the process of actually bringing the fish to the boat. We were catching Tarpon and having a blast all day. I would recommend Yucatan Snook and Randy Bowser the next time you get the urge to go catching.

Incredible sport fishing with a lot of action! Our guide Martin was a great conversationalist and had us laughing, and landing fish the entire time. Kit and gear is top notch, boats are well equipped and we had three great days on the water over the course of the month we were in Progreso. Highly recommend!

Well if you come to Puerto Progreso in the Yucatan and like to fish, you have to book a trip with Randy at yucatansnook.com. wow what a fishing tour he took me on. First we went on the hunt for tarpon, we saw them there in the marina but had no takers. So Randy took up back into La Ria for speckeled trout and wow what a blast, unlike the tarpon the trout were hungry. First cast Randy had one then my friend Bruce then I got one. In just a very short time we had caught over twenty, kept 6 for a great lunch. I highly reccomend him.His boat was clean and easy to fish in and Randy knows where the fish are great fishing in a beautiful setting. Thanks Randy I will be back.

Fishing with Randy is always a treat. HHis boats are comfy, powerful and well maintained and all the fishing equipment is new and top notch. Cold drinks are provided.
The area is stunning, full of interesting things to see from calm beauty of the ria, the inland waterway, to the hustle and bustle of the fishing boats in the port. Its facinating.
Then there's the fishing!!!!!! You are in safe hands here whether you're an absolute beginner or a seasoned pro you will love the thrill of boating a Tarpon ir snagging a golden speckled sea trout, which you can keep to cook for lunch.
This unique trip is well worth booking when you are visiting the area.
We LOVED it!!!!!

Well, today I had the pleasure of sharing one of those magical days that are very rare but that will fill the memory bank for years to come. I have fished with Randy for a number of years now and have always enjoyed my trips. I find Randy to be knowledgeable, God knows, patient and a wonderful host. Fishing is by nature an unpredictable sport, but having a guide that can adjust and make changes on the fly to make sure you will have a good time is invaluable. Well, today we were rewarded with one of those magical days, one that saw us hook no less than sixty combined tarpons, landing close to forty. I will cherish this day for a long time. Thank you Randy for a great day!

Randy is a true professional and worked hard to keep us on the fish. When one downwind run petered out we moved and things started up almost immediately. Ask Randy to do the "show the customers how to cast and hook a fish on the demonstration cast" number. Quite impressive.
Randy's boat was clean and he offered water and Gatorade to drink. I have been fishing for over 60 years and this is one of the best guided experiences I have ever had.
Rods and reels were state of the art Eagle Claw, and line was high quality braid, not mono. Less stretch means more hookups with braid. Lures consistently produced fish. I landed 13 and my wife got 7-8 and her friend at least 6 in a 4 hour. We released one large, breeder female to keep this fun going, so Randy is eco-conscious as well. This fishery is his living and he's serious about maintaining it. See if Randy's "pet" pelican comes for a visit.
Overall a very enjoyable time, hosted by a professional and friendly guide.

If you're staying here locally or coming in from a cruise ship. These guys take care of you and make it a fantastic experience. We were picked up from the port drop off, taken to the marina and almost instantly started fishing. They put us on fish, cleaned our fish and then took us to a local restaurant to get it cooked for us. Incredible experience overall and We highly recommend them. Martin was our guide and made this an incredible experience. I'm a saltwater guide myself and these guys were great.

We are visiting Yucatan mid August, is it too hot that time of year to target Tarpon? Looking to get my Tarpon cherry popped... Thank you.
Written March 15, 2019
August is a PRIME month for our big tarpon in the marina area and the smaller (up to 30 pounds) back in the ria.....I so love the fishing here in the summer months.....Might be hot for you but not for our tarpon here brother!

We are in Merida historical part of town. Would love to do some fishing coming Wednesday. Anything available? How could we get there from Merida most efficiently (don't have rental car)? We are 2 people.
Written February 12, 2018
There is a bus from Merida to progresso. In progresso you would have to take a cab to meet randy at the marina.

Am staying in Chicxulub May 6th through the 12th. How is the fishing that time of year and what type of fish do you target? I fish the panhandle of Florida often. Are there photos of your boat ? Thank You. Looking forward to meeting you.
Written January 14, 2017
Please review our website at YucatanSnook com You will see pics of the boat and the fish we catch.....Our dates fill fast so please let us know if you choose to book with us...Cheers

Do you offer any deep sea fishing charters in Progreso and if so, how much are they per person? I don't want to catch small fish - I'm looking to catch the big ones. We'll be there Dec 13th.
Written September 13, 2016
No we do not offer ocean tours.....I am sorry to say there is not any one here that is doing oceans tours as well. The fish that would catch that time of the year in ocean would be smaller anyway.
Our Ria tours provide fun and exciting fishing for speckled sea trout and tarpon. What we catch size wise in the Ria often is much bigger than what you would catch bottom fishing in the ocean.
Hope to hear back from you.

Written September 12, 2016
Randy does pick up/drop off in the Progreso area, so I am sure he can pick you up at Playa Linda.
