Tea production and Glenloch Tea Factory role to Tea Industry
I visited Glenloch Tea Factory. It was a good experience to understand how tea is manufactured. Factory Engineer and Supervisor Mrs. Jeevani has demonstrated the complete tea manufacturing process excellently. From welcoming to explaining process and equipments and tea products with sample tastes, it was a wonderful experience. Thank you very much to all the staff!!

    Excellent tour and friendly staff
My wife and I are Sri Lankan and a colleague/friend of ours visited Sri Lanka while we were there, so we took him to see Glenloch. He got a tour of the factory and the nice lady showed him the process the tea goes through after it’s plucked to the point it is packaged. He also was able to try tea plucking. This is a very nice place to visit and learn about Ceylon tea. They also allow you to taste many types of tea. They have the largest selection of teas for purchase that I’ve ever seen in one location in Sri Lanka. I really liked their tea shop because in one place we could purchase every type of tea we wanted. I will bring many of our friends who are visiting from the USA to see Glenloch. We had a good time here.

    Tour group stop
Came here with Mercury holidays as part of our tour of Sri Lanka. It was a Monday so one of the production lines wasn’t working. No problem, our lady guide was very precise in her explanation of how they produce tea, we had a go at “ picking” , had a taste and obligatory stop at the shop! My only complaint per say would be the shop could do with smaller “gift” boxes of tea, we did find a couple of small ones, but I like to buy for gifts and they were still a little big for my liking. Enjoyed the tour.

An insightful and FREE tour of Tea Production
Glenloch Tea Factory offers an interesting tour of tea production, from cultivation to drying and packing. The tour is FREE and provides a great opportunity to learn about Sri Lanka's tea industry. The factory also has a gift shop where visitors can purchase tea. It would have been great to have gift box sets to bring to Friends & Family back home. The sets they have are BIG (= expensive) or do not have Glenloch packaging (it looks like tea box bought from any supermarket... no gift worthy)

Great tour, pity about the inflated teas!
The tour around the factory was fantastic. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We tasted several types of tea afterwards and had some lovely cake. Whilst the shop was filled with many types of tea and beautiful tins, it was disappointing to find out that they were much more expensive than a supermarket. We thought buying directly from the factory was a cost efficient option. You can buy these tins from supermarkets as a hugely discounted rate.

As a chauffeur guide it is us who recommend the guest/ tourist about a hotel or restuarant for lunch. Yesterday I had to take my guests to Glenloch for lunch and i am seriously disappointed the way they treated us.
Is it fair to charge for guides meal as we take the guest for the restuarant ? The staff is so rude saying that the guest had only one portion meal therefore i had to pay for guide meal. This will be the first and last time we will take a guest for your restuarant. Hereafter will not recommend glenloch for anyone.
For your kind information this message will be forwarded to all tourist guide groups and relavant tourism companies as well.
Glen lodge do not forget that you gain your business mostly through our (guides) recommendations.

Lovely spot, but it might depend which guide you get at this place. Mine was smiley and pleasant but rushed me through the tea factory, hardly explained anything, had no opportunity to pick tea, and was overly eager to "help" me purchase tea in the shop. I had to speak quite firmly to her to get her to back off. Also, why doesn't anyone mention the tea pickers themselves? They are the backbone of the industry, as I understand it. Generally low income Tamil women. The guide acted as though they didn't exist and failed to point out the tip box in the factory for the pickers. But she was certainly angling for her own tip. I'd try another place next time.

My wife and I enjoyed this free tour of the Tea factory. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and we were shown how the tea leaves were brought into the factory and allowed to dry out. There were many aspects of the tea leaves going through the various machinery. We were also shown how the tea leaves were graded and packed. Finally, we bought some tea and a lovely tea pot in the shop which were reasonably priced.

We stayed at Glenloch for two wonderful nights. The staff was so helpful, kind and welcoming. What we enjoyed the most was the tour around the tea factory by a lovey lady by the name of Shiwa.

She explained the entire process in such a way that made it so interesting to listen to and we definitely learned some amazing tea facts along the tour.

Definitely recommend that you choose Glenloch on your stay!

Nice tea factory. We came in the evening, stayed in a hotel right on the factory. In the morning right after breakfast we had very interesting excursion on factory and tea plants with guide Shiwa. She told us a story about a factory, tea history, showed us all the technological process of tea factoring, explained a difference between white, green and black tea, all the black tea types and qualities and many other interesting things about tea, people, who produce it, about Sri-Lanka and all around.

Second Tea Factory visit and arguably the better one, our guide was superb, very informative, showed us all around and explained very well the different processes.
We sampled the different teas in their tea shop and purchased some of the blends to take home. We were also put to work picking tea on their plantation which was an experience - I’m not very good!
