We had never been here and were nearby and decided to visit. It is fall so there was no charge for entry. There is a runway and area for flying radio controlled planes. It was fun to watch. The beach is broad and compact with lots of shells for collecting. Usually pets are not allowed and signs note it everywhere,... More

We have gone there just to walk and see the water and also for the ALS Associations "Walk for the Cure." Thanks! Most trails are paved and easy to use. Sights are always lovely. There is also the 9/11 Memorial which is nice to see.

For somebody coming in from out of state (just north of NYC) for the day, it's a nice destination. Unlike community beaches in Conn, it's accessible even in the height of the summer season (for a price). Nice place to hang out on the beach, have a picnic, and/or go for a hike in the woods and along the shore.

The beach was not too crowded, even though we went on a Sunday. The reviews state an issue with the Canadian geese in the park and it is true. However people feed them, so I cannot see a solution there... but the problem is not on the beach itself. The water was with algae so it looked murky, but it... More

First of all your on long island sound so the water can be iffy. On weekends and many summer days you'll get busloads of people from everywhere

Coming from the UK I was very impressed with this beautiful beach and walking areas. Very easy to get to. Only $9 to enter and park during the week. We brought our own lunch and as it was a little close easily found a nice large flat rock to sit on and eat it overlooking the beach. Very relaxing with... More

This is a beautiful park right on the sound with a lovely beach and plenty of picnic areas. There is a recently built new pavilion. However due to the hundreds of Canada geese roaming around the park is literally covered with feces from the geese. Particularly in the picnic areas. Not sure how the beach is. Also the workers are... More

Sherwood Island State Park has it all if you're looking for outdoor fun: the longest contiguous stretch of beachfront in Fairfield County, several miles of hiking trails, ball fields, grills and picnic tables and concession stands. The Sherwood Island Nature Center offers hands-on experiences with aquatic creatures and a calendar of daily activities. Although weekends can be crowded, the diversity... More

This place is a great place to come and be alone or with others. Sand, Sun, skipping rocks and fishing - its all here. I came on a Sunday afternoon and only had to pay a $6 entrance fee - SCORE! I may not have caught any fish while sunbathing on the rocks, but they guy next to me did... More
