Reimagining itself in recent years, Westport Country Playhouse is rapidly emerging as a nationally recognized professional theater. Under the artistic direction of Mark Lamos and management direction of Michael Ross, the Playhouse creates five live theater experiences, produced at the highest level, from April through November. Its vital mix of works---dramatic, comedic, occasionally exploratory and unusual---expands the audience’s sense of what theater can be. The depth and scope of its productions display the foremost theatrical literature from the past---recent as well as distant---in addition to musicals and premieres of new plays. During the summer, the Playhouse is home to the Woodward Internship Program, renowned for the training of aspiring theater professionals. Winter at the Playhouse, from November through March, offers events outside of the main season---Family Festivities presentations, Script in Hand play readings and a Holiday Festival. In addition, businesses and organizations are encouraged to rent the handsome facility for their meetings, receptions and fundraisers

The playhouse did a season ending musical, Camelot and did it very well. It is a challenge to get a full production musical on the small stage and with a cast large enough to look convincing. Westport county Playhouse pulled it off. Slick scenery, a small but capable staff and you have a good evening of enjoyment. I hope they... More

Outstanding productions, thoroughly professional, good sight lines. And visit Positano around back for a special meal and superb wines. An excellent way to spend an evening.

We recently attended the Westport Country Playhouse and had a wonderful time. Easy to get to, easy to park, We had seats in the mezzanine with an excellent view. The play "What the Butler Saw" was hilarious

The first time I ever went to the Westport Playhouse was over 50 years ago. Westport was a sort of artist and actors hideout and the Newman family had not taken over the place. Well, unlike many others, when Joanne Woodward made the theater her life work she improved it. When I was a kid I sat on wood benches... More

Seeing "Buyer & Cellar" starring Michael Urie was a dream come true for us. (OK, we are huge fans of "Ugly Betty" too!) Me and my teenage daughter attended the last performance of Jonathan Tolin's play on July 3, 2016. The play and the performance were great. The theatre is wonderful. There is so much history here, and we only... More

The playhouse is charming inside and out. The outdoor patio is a great spot to relax and have a drink before the show. It is hard to find a bad seat in the house and pricing is very reasonable. The variety of the shows and talent of the cast and crew attract appreciative theatergoers of all ages.

When Paul and Joanne Woodward got involved with the Playhouse they injected a sense on new vigor into Westport. Unfortunately Paul died a few years ago. However the spirit of the Playhouse continued. Some shows are excellent and others only fair. But for summer entertainment in a beautiful new renovated theater is a good bet Marty Lispet

The playhouse offers everything from children's productions to full musicals. The Script in Hand readings are particularly interesting, as the actors spend only one evening reading directly from a script, without a stage set; the setting becomes vivid through the quality of the acting. The package plays are convenient and flexible. There are also excellent options for previews, inexpensive showings,... More

Now I had not been in 30 years but growing up in town my mom would take me to see shows and I recall my parents having tickets weekly for shows. Would go with another couple and dinner after etc. We saw a show a month back sponsored by local law firm and really enjoyed the playhouse and has the... More
